God dammit. I get on the server when the pop is still low, play for about 20 minutes, then my computer dies. Load it back up and I'm now stuck in a queue, and will inevitably be laggy when I do get in <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I too was curious as to why an east coast server was picked, but then I thought about our Europian friends. I would have thought a MDT or CST server would be preferable for the US players though.

dang, my druid was just about to hit lv22 last night. i've never played a mmo seriously before WoW and now i am hooked. there are somethings i didn't like, such as walking forever and getting ganked over and over on the PvP server, but the quests made it fun. i never had to grind. my main char will most likely just be on a normal server for retail because i'm really sick of getting killed while soloing and questing. especially by horde shamans... after lvl 20, it was impossible to quest in disputed areas.
if the ns peeps go onto a PvP server, i'll prob just make a PvP char there since i'll at least have some backup this time. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I say stick with the same server for retail... and as for the PvP issue, I never got to a high enough level to xp in contested areas, but if it's really a problem maybe we should reconsider the PvP thing? what do the lvl 30-ish people think?
We would wander in Horde territory all the time. Most of the hordies were afraid to attack us. That was pretty interesting. The mobs on the way to the Barrens are more dangerous than the Horde. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

When we were on the first part of the Succubus quest, we ran past a couple of lv20 horde ( there were 4 of us) and we just stopped and waved at them. They bloody legged it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Tommy: the Honor system, which should curb ganking, is yet to be implemented. Have you played a PvE server? It's even weirder to come upon a member of the enemy faction... and have nothing at all to do. You can't speak to them (language barrier) and you can't fight them.
What I like about the PvP server (I tried a PvE for the Stress Test, and a PvP for the open beta) is that every encounter is real. I had encounters where I killed someone or was killed... then a nearly identical encounter where we respectfully went our individual ways. I also had encounters where I jumped to Cat Form and Prowled (Druid Cat equivalent of Rogue Stealth) and successfully avoided a beating, or got the drop on a player.
All in all, extremely interesting... PvE when an orc or tauren showed up in Elwynn was anticlimactic and weird. You shouted at each other, pointed, made gestures (usually /rude and /v insult), and then sat there.
Give PvP another chance, tommy. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised once the full system is in place.

well, an honor system would be good. it took me a long time to quest after 20 because there would be lv26+ shamans killing me in a few hits while i was fighting off elementals. i did fight back, but it was no use. i was able to kill some warriors however, thanks to root. shadowmeld helps somewhat at least - it saved me a couple of times. i like PvP, but it really sucks while questing. especially for soloers like myself. grouping up is essential in PvP. ashenvale kept getting flooded by 50+ horde raids, which made walking around almost impossible.
ill probably make a shaman for PvP and a druid for PvE.
on a side note, i just witnessed the end of the beta on the main PvP server - the GM's kept spawning in dreadlords and these 'Timmy' creatures until Stormwind was completely wiped out. it was funny.

Dood, ashenvale might be disputed area but there's a whole lot of horde there, and it's the favourite NE raid route (hardly ever goes to human areas <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->). I have killed alot of people there questing solo <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I never encountered many elves in Ashenvale, except in the last 2-3 days of the beta. And even then, it wasn't hard to avoid them. Does it slow you down? Yep, but your shadowmeld makes it pretty easy to at least hide till they've moved on. I used Cat Form's Prowl ability (Stealth) to avoid combat on several occasions.

I've been able to glean a few things about localization:
1) Localization will be enforced at least in part by billing address. However, it is possible to purchase a Game Card which would be used instead of a credit card, working around this check.
2) Previous Blizzard games (e.g. Diablo 2) enforced Battle Net server selection by checking the time zone in Windows preferences. This could be circumvented by changing your clock's time zone; inconvenient, but a possible workaround if WoW uses a similar method.
3) While North American players will be restricted to North American servers, they will not be restricted between East and West servers. Blizzard advises you to choose the one closer to you, but whatever.
4) Australia and New Zealand will also have access to WoW on the 23rd. They will be piped to the NA West servers, but I don't know if they will be able to play on East servers as well. _________________
So here's the deal. Europe starts preordering WoW on 26 November, so it's safe to guess that they might even get the game in time for Christmas (I heard someone say Dec. 17th, but I couldn't find any official word on the matter). NA and AUS/NZ get it on Tuesday.
1) Who pings worse, Europe to the west coast or Australia to the East Coast? 2) How many foreigners are going to do what they can to beat localization and play on a US server? 3) If you're going to play, where are you from?

I plan to buy it and try to find a way around the localization, the localized server probably means there is a lesser language barrier at the american servers than the european servers and to add to the reason, I know no europeans that is gonna play wow so I'd rather play with a few of you :]
