    Look around on the web for ways to reduce compile time <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I tend to just look at websites, mabye play a few games (ones that dont need much processing power) sometimes I just go out.

    3 hours???

    little bit much.

    comparrison:
    map - ns_source_b31
    architecture - hell! (scratches on each limit)
    system - 1.5ghz / 512 mb ram
    compile time - little more than 1 (!!!) hour

    so where do this 3 hours come from?

    what I do in the meantime: go watch tv, go play some games on my ps2, drive to buy some things, tidy up my computer room, eat, call a friend. there are so much possibilities but it would not be enough to fill up 3 hours! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Bast takes 4 hours and Sava 30 minutes or so...

    I look around forums, kick brute_force a bit, chat in IRC... but if I can I'll just leave it compiling while I'm at class... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    ns hulk compilation times are

    CSG:7 min
    BSP:3 min
    VIS:20 min
    RAD: 1h 20 min

    When I'm doing small compiles (CSG+BSP=10min) I'm messing on NS mapping forum or Score phorum, reading Webmagazines or checking e-mail/icq. Medium compiles (CSG+BSP+VIS=30min) - I eat, read comics/books/magazines or prepare for school ( <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> ). Full compiles (~2 hours) I'm doing during night when I sleep.

    @Lt.Gravity: Do you invite me to teh private betatest too ? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    P.S. I do nothing because I don't have a computer to compile on. I'm nearing breaking point and thinking more and more that 100 pounds sterling isn't too much to pay for a completed map...

    Cook a meal. Brush your teeth. Practice your dance steps. Spy on your neighbors. Enhance your calm through zen meditation techniques. Do some laundry. Play fetch with your dog. Change your oil. Work on that novel you've been putting off. Call your mother; she'll appreciate it. Stare at one point until your vision starts to fade to blackness, then move your head slightly and watch the world light up. Ponder infinity. Scratch an itch. Call an old girlfriend and don't see how long it takes her to hang up while you say nothing on the phone line. Go angsty over whether your compiled map will look any good at all. Take up smoking. Perfect your singing voice. Reminisce over your grade school years, when life was so much simpler. Rearrange the furniture in your living room. Build a tent by putting a blanket over the sofa. Create art projects out of scraps of stuff you find around your kitchen. Give the cat that long needed but long dreaded flea bath. Hunt for patterns in passing clouds. Have a nice nap. Get drunk on extremely cheap boxed wine. Call local restaurants and find the best price on fried chicken, then call the higher priced places and harass them about ripping off their customers. Have a hot and steamy fantasy about TyrNemesis. Shoot water guns at passing cars. Drop jello cubes off 10th floor balconies. Organize your underwear drawer by brand name. Spin around in your chair until you feel ill. Get angry about the lack of quality television programming in the world today. See how long you can stand on one leg. And finally, go check your compile and be horrified when you find out that it's only 10% into RAD.

    bah, you people have friends? I use to know what that was like.... until you get a wife and kid.... then you have 'neighbors'.

    I get evrything i want dont to the map, stat the compile, turn off the monitor and

    a) watch CSI
    b) get nookie
    c) sleep

    Usually in that order... followed by waking up and going to work. I normally have to wait 24 hours to see the result.

    I like to compile before I go to school, so I can come back safe in the knowledge that I've got another few hours worth of mapping to do before it all starts again. Overnight is also good.

    Optimize my map to reduce compile times. ^_^

    Seriously... nulling faces, correcting erroneous cuts or otherwise obsolete geometry, simplifying things.

    That and music.

    I put on a few good albums and wait for the time to fly by.

    During a normal compile I usually listen to "Styx - Renegade" a few hundred times. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I invest a penny a minute in buying more RAM.

    And I recommend the lot of you do the same. Jesus, theres no reasonable explanation as to why you should have such high compile times.

    Simple solution: Learn to use well placed hint brushes and compile time can actually go down.

    During the week, I come back home from varsity, work on the map, and hit the compile button right before I go to bed. At the moment, it takes a little over 3 hours (having lots of memory, even on an old slow 1.3GHz processor works wonders), so it's ready in the morning. Unfortunately, I don't usually have time to look at it in the morning, so I look at it again when I get back home that evening, and the whole process repeats itself.

    Over weekends, I try and save compiling for overnight or when I go out. If that's not possible however, I look for my collection of trance CD's (how I find them, I don't know, my room is the biggest bloody mess out there) and bounce around the room for 3 hours.

    Worthless sidenote: By the time beta-2 is done (if it's ever done as I have a useless work ethic), it's probably going to take a lot longer than the abovementioned 3 hours.
