<div class="IPBDescription">... Where the hell do I get one?</div> Note: Anyone that even <b>thinks</b> about starting an ATI versus nVidia debate here will be violated with a broom.
That said, I'm looking to get one of these dandy little cards for the machine that I'll be building in two weeks. Problem is, I don't know what manufacturer to get, and, more importantly, I haven't a ****ing clue as to how I'm supposed to find the damn things. Newegg only lists X800 XT's (which I'm pretty sure are actually XT PE's - Lord knows why they don't actually say so), but doesn't have any in stock from the six manufacturers they list.
So, if any of you fine trol- *ahem*, <i>forum users</i> can find me an X800 XT PE that I can actually buy, I would be most grateful.
Note: I'm looking for an AGP board, not a PCI Express board.

*Ahem*May have somthing to do with Half-Life 2*Ahem*
/apologies for being so non-helpful, but i dont see that the performance differences between that 500$ videocard and a 200$ videocard are very great.

Check Tom's Hardware Guide. Their newest benchmarks show the X800 XT PE performing as much as twice as well as the 9800 Pro (my current card).
And it's not my money. This new system is a "Getting Into College" present from my father that's intentionally six months late. He's the one with too much money - I'm just liberating it from him.

I wish my mommy/daddy had that kind of money to blow on me... But no, it's hard enough to pay for necesities, like food, bills etc...
I'll be more than glad to take that old 9800 pro off your hands!
thats a lot of money liberation that could go to other causes. like a year of expensive dinners for random boyfriend/girlfriends, building the heck out of your reputation <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Back in early August I had been looking for like 3 weeks and I got a 6800GT instead cause DOOM 3 came out. You may have to be prepared to do the same (or go w/ the x800 pro)
Anyway, Zel, thanks for the list, but I still need reviews. As far as I know, Sapphire makes the best ATI cards, but I'd like to confirm that. I found some nice deals on Sapphire XT's via pricewatch, so I'm hoping that I'm right.
Edit: As cool as DOOM 3 is, I'm more of a Half-Life 2 guy; as such, I'm more of an ATI guy.

If you buy a BBA card, you know it's to spec, and will operate as intended. A third party could use cheap caps, too little thermal transfer compound on the heatsink, a bad PCB layout, cheap RAM, and so on. That and... hell, they believe in their chips enough to make their own cards, rather than foisting them off to third-party manufacturers, like a certain other video chipset manufacturer.
(Edit: And go with the XTPE. A 10-20% performance boost is enough to let you kick 6800 Ultra EXTREEEEEEEEEEEM!!11!one!!eleven!!!!!1! owners in the face and laugh, playing HL2 at 1600x1200 at maximum settings.. rather than just sit a little bit up from them.)

Quite possible, but sometimes its the opposite. I got an MSI 9800 pro, and when I took off the sink to check what Core and ram I got I was surprised. R360 core with Hynix 2.8ns DDR RAM. I can also OC quite far on stock cooling. (I did add a small spot of thermal paste simply because some is removed when you move around the sink) I was quite pleased.

Ordered mine yesterday. It better be here in time for HL2!
Don't be hating though, when I got this computer I was very new to computer parts that building a custom computer at the time was an unrealistic and stupid option.

What you should be saying is will hl2 be around when you have that card <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
In other news, I've got my case picked out, so now all I need is a sound card.

He needed help to figure out the video drivers for his <a href='http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=parhelia+128&btnG=Search+Froogle' target='_blank'>Matrox Parhelia 128</a> ($360) to do spanning.
Spanning the desktop across three <a href='http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=samsung+192T&btnG=Search+Froogle' target='_blank'>Samsung 192T</a>'s ($750 each).
Needless to say, we spent an hour playing with panoramic wallpapers and screensavers.

Actually I believe there have been benchmarks done which suggest, at this point in time, there is no real major difference in performance between AGP 4x and AGP 8x.

Right; AGP 4x is big enough that there's probably never a bottleneck. That's why PCI express isn't a MUST HAVE RIGHT NOW when you make a computer, because AGP is fine for now.
Are you sure you can softmod it? I've read bad reviews for that card, and I'm not sure if you can open up the four pipes it's missing.
