Woop de friggin do?
Ok, I realize the source engine pwnd j00, but... CS:S is just normal CS w/ physics and pretty water... What's the big deal?

The only thing I can see is it will attract a lot of former CS players and get them to spend $$ on Valve's new toy.

Personally, I don't see the point in CS:S, now, if it were, say all new, completly re-designed, new maps/gameplay modes, and took advantage of the HL2 engine, rather than a strait port of the orrginal CS, then yea... But I don't get it...

please asplain to mah...

Easily. If I gave you the choice of playing NS or playing NS with the source engine, which would you choose?

    ...

    Exactly.

If you gave me NS or the exact same NS on the source engine for a full game's cost, I'd chose current NS.

Except of course, I'd believe physics have a lot more to gain in NS than in CS.

There might not be anything particularly special about CS:S right out of the box, so to speak. But there's a lot of possibility in the Source engine, and once Valve puts out the SDK and, more importantly in this case, the new version of Hammer, expect to see some crazy awesome maps for CS, and every other mod as well.

I wouldn't be adverse to giving the creation of a CS:S map a shot, although I think single-player HL2 mapping would be a bigger draw.

Exactly. CDs and DVDs are going to be obsolete soon; why buy data on a stupid piece of destructable plastic when you can simply download it to your computer? If you're paranoid or something about Steam deleting your account, you are allowed to burn the .gcf files to a CD and there you go.

I think it's safe to assume that everyone was fully aware that the graphics and physics were at least superficially different.

He was just asking why bother paying for a game that is functionally identical to one you can have for free. Do the graphics really justify the pricetag?

(I think so, but I'm just stating his question)

I don't play cs much at all, but when I heard that someone killed another guy accidentally by throwing a grenade into a hallway which was near no one but propelled a can through the air and into the back of an enemy's skull... I knew the game was sufficiently different.

    I haven't played cs:s yet though. probably won't till HL2 comes out.

I don't care about graphics. However, I'm willing to fork over the full price of a game just to see those physics in action(yeah, yeah still superficial, no better than graphics fanboys). On a less serious note, however, SHOW ME DEM PHYSICS, BABY! WOO WOO!
  • GwahirGwahir Join Date: 2002-04-24 Member: 513Members, Constellation
doc, read my example, that's not superficial... I say the physics are gameplay changing.
