<div class="IPBDescription">Natural-Selection Map Project</div> Hi people.

I want to introduce my latest map project here to get a feedback of NS players.

The map is a power plant inside a volcano. It will be very huge at the end. The current map status is: ~6% finished.

You can visit the map project with the current updates also on <a href='http://www.snarkpit.com/maps.php?map=1228' target='_blank'>SnarkPit.com</a>

Here are some screenshots:

    Wow, this looks sooo promising. Keep the details, but be aware of errors <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Looks like the r_speeds are going to go through the roof. It's unnecessary to make each stone its own brush, just use a texture for the stone walls.

    I though the same about the stones. Are there no problems climbing them?

    But otherwise that second picture was the sweetest so far! I love it! The volcano theme is also good I guess. Walkways over molten lava is never wrong. But are you final about that name? It seems a little cheesy for such a professional map.

    Keep up the good work.

    very unique style, i like it a lot. although the rocks look a little funny (think lego blocks).

    on that second shot you could cut away some of the colors. i dont know what you've planned but i dont think blue lights fit there very well. also the monitor seems a little out-of place.

    just some thoughts =o

    I LOVE this! The blocks look great as they are, but yeh they may present problems... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    EDIT: I don't like the name, I think map names generally work better when they are one word, for a start. Darkest Day sounds more like a cheesy horror film, and besides, with all this lava isn't it gonna be quite hot and bright?

    It looks like you have a very unique and professional style, hopefully you can extend that professionalism to keeping the r_speeds nice.

    If you ask someone on these forums really nicely, they could probably make you a model for the brickwork that would keep the shape (although lose the lighting effect). Nah I take it back the shadows off those bricks are too could to replace with a model!

    As for the name:

    dies·acerbus means dark day (although it's probably the wrong case or something, I've forgotten most of my Latin grammar).

    acerbime *may* mean darkest in Latin.

    Also you could try out Greek and Japanese is always fun.

    It looks amazing but you could use textures to represent some of your detailed brushwork, this isn't HL2 man, you're gonna hit engine limits and high r_speeds really quickly. Great work, however.

    I dont know i personaly dont thikn this is the greatest it almost looks to blocky and caotic. But also some of the lighting on the flat walls make me wonder is this relly the half life engine. if it is your defently over the wpoly limit.

    for example this one
    <img src='http://www.bs-army.com/members/ding/maps/darkestday/darkest_day6.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
    the lighting on the walls makes me suspicious.
    other than that its not to my taste but not bad.
    if this is the half life engine its way over wpolys way, beacuse you would have to make every block on the wall a at least 1 unit thick and that screenshot alone would then be over 700 in a heart beat.

    Sure it is the HL1 Engine and the wpolys are ok - 100 FPS @ 300-400 wpoly in this picture:

    is it 300 or 400?
    you know r_speeds can be quite a stable value. but anyways this is TOO MUCH!
    personaly I like this detailed style but trust me, this wont work, no matter what. it simply wont work.

    but shurely you dont want to hear this so continue the work. when reaching the 2000 mark some other people wilol tell you that this wont work for ns...

    thats what i was saying thats not right and how does some one go from
    <img src='http://bs-army.com/members/ding/maps/c1/charlie_one4.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
    to this
    <img src='http://www.bs-army.com/members/ding/maps/darkestday/darkest_day6.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

    the only explinations i can think of is that
    a) diffrent engine
    b) not his map
    c) he hasent posted anything in snark pit for a long time

    i dont want to seem like an **** its just dosent all seem right to me

    i have douts its the half life engine i think he took the utk3-4 engine and put the ns textures in there or something but if you want to argue with me you can easily win just post a pic with you running around inside the map
  • dingding Join Date: 2004-10-02 Member: 32046Members
    a) It is the Half-Life 1 Engine.
    b) My map

    The picture which samejima showed us (that with the wooden boxes and so on) has the following story: I tryed to get the oldschool '98 style of Half-Life.

    darkest_day is just a new project with a new kind of style/design.

    i dont doubt its your map i said that it you might have not just posted i belive you on that aspect but the fact that you say its hl1 and the fact that you only have 200 polys dosent sound right at least one of them that is and i dont want to say any more beaucse i can see this geting into a fight then being locked

    Prove me wrong please, but that doesn't seem possible.

    Edit: It looks like the wpolies should be well into the 1000s

    I think I will add some doors to get down this wpolys. And yes you will need a very fast computer to play that map. Further I will try to get as much doors/corners/whatever in this map to relax your FPS.

    *** edit ***

    btw: moultano your shiva station looks great man - I really like that one!

    if your only at 600 polies you shouldent have a problem running the map again that says your over or understating something beacuse i agree with moulton it should be over 1000 polies expecialy since all those blocks are individual

    Don't think my wpolies are low on every place of that map... there are unfinished parts in which the wpolies are on 4000 and more - but without the doors and visual obstacles - we will see what happens if I add all this stuff.
