EDIT
WTH would we want to sign the Kyoto protocol - it puts any nation that does so under an immediate competitive disadvantage to any nation that doesnt. As John Howard pointed out, under the Kyoto Protocol we would be forced to introduce a carbon tax on any of our natural gas exports - so if ohhh say China wanted to buy natural gas, we'd be charging more than Indonesia, and despite the fact that our natural gas is cleaner, they'd get the deal. So it doesnt help the environment, it costs Australia both capital and jobs, and squanders a valuable resource - insanity. And what is the predicted effect of the Kyoto Protocol, assuming the impossible occurs and everyone signs and adheres - I believe it is around an extra decade before global catacylsms destroy us all, or so the Green scaremongers would have us believe.

What else? How about the fact that in the US, a large number of cities (Chicago for one) are making it illegal to smoke cigarettes indoors? That's more then you can say about England, where approximately 25% of your population smokes, and only 16% of US citizens smoke. Secondly, smoking causes more air pollution then automobile exhaust. Considering that 1) The US has had better air pollution control on cars then England for the past 35 years and 2) THe US has less smokers, I can easilly say that England has done less about air pollution then the US, and you have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER about ANYTHING you're talking about.
We simply pollute more because we have so damn many more people you tool. When you live on a tiny island with only a fraction as many people, of course you'll produce less air pollution. Percentagewise, however, you're completely wrong. If England were the size of the US, the ozone layer would be long gone and I don't think anyone would have lungs anymore. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
I love how people claim stuff without any mention of sources, whatsoever.

Typical American attitude, never admitting a problem. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
actually not admitting a problem is a typically human trait. This human happens to be american. dang.
anyway, australia didn't sign the kyoto protocol either, but through the magic that is standardised education and that propaganda machine that is the mandatory subject of "Geography, Civics and Citizenship" (as well as poor teaching standards), my class now believes that we did.
It was like a jedi mind trick: Mr Anderson stood up and said "This is not the protocol you are looking for" and the class sort of glazed over...
Translation for those of you who rarely enter the discussion forum:
You're an American, you're stupid and fat, and all have exactly the same attitude and IQ. But given that I lack the critical faculties required to compose a meaningful post refuting your argument, I shall dismiss you in one sentence leaving me and my ideas secure. Kindly keep your American attitudes, logic and coherency where they belong - in your miserable little colony.

Old statistics but both show that the US has SIGNIFICANTLY less smokers then England.
More recent?
How about from the British Heart Foundation themselves?

The link I get it from says:

Right on there: 46.2 million smokers in the US - The US has a population of 294,309,491 - that means 15.6% of Americans smoke.
I'm not even going to bother finding the information about the catalytic converters. If you think I made that up look it up yourself. Hint, 1970 was when the Clean Air Act was put in effect.
EDIT: Smoking worse then car exhaust:

Do you realise no one cares? Americans on the whole are FATTER than the British. Take that in to account, then you will probably find heart disease and death rates *lower in Britain than America. And no one cares about that either. So please take this to the discussion forum, don't abuse this topic.

Thursday - if you want this in Discussions, make a thread there and start it up. As of now, you dug your own grave in this thread, and so help me I'll bury you in it.
By the way, tell the British Heart Association that their connection is mind-numbingly slow. It takes me like 5 minutes for search results on that site to show up.

Oh well, I'm done for now. I can't be bothered to 'argue' with someone who has absolutely no ground to stand on and argue from. It's like punching a baby. In the face. It's fun for a while but then I just feel bad.
I've more then proven my point that you're know little about what you speak, and I think you've made an **** of yourself enough in this thread on your own, you don't need me to assist you. When you actually have a real issue to complain about, I'll pay attention. In the meantime, Mr. "Dethridge", I suggest you try picking fights you might actually stand a chance of winning next time.
