New Orleans Submerged?

Anyone on the forums from New Orleans? I was shocked to see this news report today; the problems of trying to evacuate a massive city like that boggles the mind. Hopefully the hurricane won't hit too hard.

September 15- New Orleans submerged underwater. Buildings crumble, animals infected by chemicals, et cetera.
September 16- Planet Half-Life posts about a mod for Half-Life^2 that is in development called "The Big Easy", in which players control various watercraft, and engage in cooperative missions in the hostile environment of the partially submerged city while fighting mutant creatures.
Damn. Now I hope somone does make a mod like that. It sounds fun.
So would I....
[ontopic] I certainly hope that Ivan's aim is a little off and misses New Orleans entirely.

Worst use of a smiley ever.
Best of luck to everyone in the endangered areas.
oh man, we were just talking about those last night at Red Robin. A couple of the guys are from Florida and were telling tales of
re: New Orleans... that's nuts, they're talking 12-18 feet of water (or 16, maybe?) with a direct hit. Yikes. Here's hoping for the best - we've kinda lucked out so far, heh. (Why am I saying "we?" I live in freakin' Wisconsin! What's gonna happen, storm surge inland from Lake Michigan??? That's not even within an hour and a half's drive from here! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
My brother-in-law left Florida yesterday or is leaving today... he's a teacher in Pensacola. Not sure what the threat level is there, but his girlfriend and her parents are staying so they can protect their stuff against looters... *sigh*

Yes, very neat to watch from 400 miles away in a comfy living room. Not submerged.

Just a thought.
Although I guess it’s better then having your entire house submerged…seriously that news article is something out of a movie.
If so, how are things over there?
On another note, I would not hesitate to drown any ball of ants I see. The number of times I've tripped over one of their hills and found myself bloated up to the neck with the buggers ... argh my mateys! Sink that mofo down!
Catching a 15 foot wave and riding it a mile to shore is one of the most exhilerating experiences ever, and I envy those of you in Hawaii and California.
YOU NUB.
The hurricane is alot bigger than that, and will hit N.O which was built below sea level mind you.

Highest wave I've ever had where I live was about 3 inches, and it was in my driveway, which slopes down to two rather watertight garage doors. Had a 5 foot deep lake in the summer when it rained for a week straight, dumping more rain in that week than we've had in the past 5 or so years (I live in what is, for all practical purposes, a desert).
As for New Orleans, thats definately not good. Hard to think of an entire city being destroyed... At least Florida isn't getting this hurricane too.
Nope, Florida is gettin hit pretty hard by it.
Pensicola in the pan handle is taking the blunt of it along with southern Alabama.
Pretty big this thing.
Also, note that tropical storm in the east, which is heading a path due NW, and is expected to strengthen very soon.

And the red and purple plasma burns your face off.
