The small drop ship headed towards the larger space station. Out in the middle of nowhere, intruders were there. They all knew it, there was no need to pretend there wasn’t. Everyone on the ship was fearful, who wouldn’t be? This mission may be simple, but it was one of the hardest fought battles any of the ten Marines had ever been to.

“Start checking your gear guys! ETA is 6 minutes!” Ridge said. He was selected to be their commander for the mission. “Remember,” he continued, “this is a simple mission. Clear out all Kharra life forms, structures, and whatever else there is. Squad 1 will be made up of Ice, Redark, Firefly, and Stock. You’re on resource duty.”

“Aww,” the newly selected marines called in unison.
“C’mon Comm, you know we hate that!” Ice said.

Nobody knew his real name. They just called him like that, because he was always cold. Cold like ice.

“Sorry guys, but that’s the way it’s gonna happen!” Ridge replied. On he went, “Now, I want Mince, Cala, Titus, and Cotton to explore the space station. Take out any lifeforms, and if you encounter a Hive area, tell me right away.”

“Yes Sir!” all of them replied.
“What about me?” Permis said.
“Man, you’re impatient! You’re going to stay at the marine start, and defend it from attacks. Later in the mission, when we’ve secured enough resources, you can join Squad 2,” he answered to the anxious Marine.

“Better than nothing,” he whispered under his breath.

The drop ship slowly headed to the space station. All of the Marines were in at least 1 mission. They had come face to face with death, and spit on it. They knew what all the names of the Kharra were, they knew what they were capable of. They had seen it all before, and were sick of it. They were stuck in the war now, stuck until they died.

“Let’s go!” Ridge yelled at the Marines.

They ran into the start of the space station. All that was there was a command chair, and a single resource tower. A map of the entire station downloaded to all of the Marine’s HUD’s. Ridge jumped in the command chair, and dropped an Armory down. In about a second, swirls of Nanobots swirled down from nowhere, to form a building. The Marines started building quickly.

“Comm, drop the IP!” Permis said.

“Permis, were you even at the briefing? We’re not getting any recruits. You die, nobody to replace you…” Ridge replied, his voice falling as he spoke. “Ok guys, move out! You know what to do!” he said. “Squad 1, go to the right side of the map. Squad 2, the left,” he ordered them.

Quickly, they moved out of the spawn area. On their HUD’s, they saw their resource count drop 30 resources. On the left side, they saw an icon that represented the commander upgrading their Armory.

“Sh*t, this sucks. We get here with no technology researched, and we’re stuck on res duty,” Ice said to the rest of his squad.

Quickly, the moved to an open resource nozzle, and the commander dropped a resource tower. Ice and Firefly covered Redark and Stock as they built the tower.

On the other side of the space station, Squad 2 moved through the metal interior of the space station. Then, they heard a small clicking noise. The Squad stopped and pointed their LMG’s (Light Machine Gun) in the direction of the sound. Something far away, but still close enough for them to hear. The noises got smaller and smaller, until they finally stopped.

“Probably a Skulk… I hate those bastards!” Cotton said.
“They’re small, but they pack a punch. I know,” Mince said. On their previous mission, Mince had half his arm bitten off by a Skulk. He continued, “Thank God there’s medpacks… Losing an arm would suck!”
“Yeah, you couldn’t stay in the TSA anymore, what a pity,” Titus snarled back at him. “I think it’s safe to say, the TSA is gonna keep us here ‘till we die. We’re fu*ked, and you all know it.”
“They told us this was our last mission, stop complaining,” Cala shot back at him.
“Did they ever tell that to you before? They did to me, but they just told me that they made a mistake. Mistakes don’t happen twice in a row!” Titus replied angrily.
“Guys, shut the hell up! I for one don’t feel like dying right now,” Cotton said. “Just move on, and shut up!”

More to come!

Squad 1 quickly built the tower, and moved on. The more they travelled, the more growth and bacteria they saw. They turned a corner, only to hear the *POW* sound of an OC (Offense Chamber) fire one of it's spikes directly at Stock. He quickly jumped out of the way, just to see the spike fly past his head. They were temporarily stunned, not knowing what was happening. Before they knew it, they heard the familiar *POW* sound again. It hit Stock right in the chest. It seemed like the instant after Stock was hit, they all returned from their trance.

"GET BACK!" Firefly yelled at his squad.

Ice grabbed Stock, and pulled him out of the way just as another spike flew past them.

"Damnit, I hate OC's!" Stock yelled as he yanked the spike out of him. His armor was slightly damaged, and he bled very little. "I'm okay guys," he continued, "doesn't hurt that bad anyways."
"Yeah, if that first one hit you…" Firefly replied.
"Comm, what should we do?" Redark asked.
"Try to attack the OC. I'll drop a medpack for Stock." Ridge replied.
"Comm, I'm okay, don't drop a med. We'll take the OC down and move on." Stock replied.

The OC had a bad blind spot on it, they could shoot one of it's "arms" off, and slowly work their way up to the middle, until it finally died.

"Ok guys, fire one by one. Get to the back when you unloaded your magazine, reload, and be ready to fire again." Redark ordered his squad. "Comm, could you drop about eight ammo packs?" He questioned his commander.
"Fine, but only if Stock takes a medpack. We don't have any reinforcements on this mission guys. If you have any injuries, I don't care how little or much it hurts - you're taking a medpack."

Squad 2 moved slowly through the space station. On their HUD, they could see the commander upgrading their Armor. They moved silently, but quickly. They were nearing the other end of the space ship, as the clicking noises started again, behind the squad, but more quickly. They got louder and louder…

"SKULKS BEHIND US!" Mince yelled to his Squad. There was no real need to though, because they were already in the process of turning. They all opened fire at once, unleashing a fury of heated lead bullets. They had no time to aim before they fired, only while firing. All that could be heard was the firing of guns, then metal shells hitting the floor. Almost instantly, three or four skulks were lying on the floor, in little pieces, and the squad was swimming in bullet shells.

"Woah," Cala said very quietly. There wasn't anything to say, they just moved on, kept going at a steady pace, quickly through the space station again.

    <span style='font-size:13pt;line-height:100%'><u>Part Three</u></span>

Squad 1 moved swiftly through the space station, quickening their pace because the next resource nozzle was quite a long way away. The space station creaked and groaned as they moved through, steam bursting through pipes. They couldn’t be distracted, they had a mission to do.

“AAAAAH!” Redark cried out. Everyone turned around their guns ready. He looked at them, his mouth wide open. Then, blood started pouring out of his mouth, his eyes having no life in them. He collapsed forwards, towards the Marines, to reveal a Skulk attached to his back.
“KILL THAT FU*KER!” Ice yelled. The whole squad opened fire, filling the hallway with a fury of smoke, lead, and shells. The Skulk was obliterated almost instantly. “Holy crap,” Ice said to the rest of their squad. Their mouths and eyes were open wide with shock, to see one of their squad members lying in a pool of his own blood. The Skulk easily ripped through his armor, ripping most of his internal organs to shreds.

The squad grieved for a moment over the loss of their team-mate, but knew that if they stood with him, they would be next. They left him as he was, and continued silently on. The squad seemed to much smaller now, only three Marines to carry their task on.

“Squad 1, what the hell just happened!” Ridge yelled to the squad.
“Comm, Redark’s dead,” Firefly said quietly, “a Skulk bit him from behind, he must have had silence or something, we didn’t hear a thing!”
“Damn… Ok guys, you’ve secured enough res nodes for now. I’ve got you guys Armor Level 1, Weapons Level 2, and I’m going to get you guys Heavy Armor to counter whatever comes next,” Ridge continued.
“Whatever comes next…” Stock thought to himself.

The squad had no choice but to move on. They did so, continuing like nothing had happened. They had to, or they would end up dead next. Suddenly, a Lerk cried from above.
“Not again!” Stock yelled. “FIRE!” he ordered. The squad once again unleashed a fury of lead, shells, and smoke, until they were satisfied the thing was gone. Unfortunately, it dodged most of the bullets, shaking off the ones that hit it. “C’mon guys, hit that thing!” he yelled.
Then, the Lerk unleashed it’s own firepower – a giant ball of gas.
“SPORES, RUN!” Ice yelled. The squad didn’t know where to run, but any way was better than into the Lerk. Stock and Ice sprinted back and hid behind a couple crates, and Firefly ran forwards through the hallway. They could see the bacteria spreading around them as the spores came closer and closer. Firefly darted to the right, and not looking, fell 12 feet to the floor below. Fortunately, the Lerk went after Stock and Ice.

The Lerk let out another cry, and swooped quickly at the two Marines. They could hear the Lerk’s wings flapping closer and closer. They both jumped out at the exact time, bringing a whole new meaning of pain to the Lerk. Like a stream of fire, their bullets hit 9 out of 10 times, until the Lerk was literally a falling skeleton. As if that wasn’t enough, Ice hit the carcass with his gun as it fell into them, knocking it into even smaller pieces.

    “Firefly!” Stock yelled. “Firefly!”
“Damnit, we lost another one,” Ice said.
“The Lerk went for us, and there’s no way the spores killed him, he’s smart enough to run.”
“This isn’t good, this keeps getting worse and worse. We’re falling into an endless pit…”
“Yeah,” Stock silently replied. They both knew that they weren’t going to survive this, but they already made it through one mission.

There was always hope for them, just not in the TSA, Stock thought to himself. Why did he join! Why did he do this! He knew he couldn’t make a difference, and that he wasn’t going to. Maybe it was the fact that he lost two of his closest friends after they joined the TSA. Whatever it was, he didn’t care anymore. None of that mattered to him, he just continued on, until it was his turn. Just like playing a game.

    Sounds ok so far.

As for a name, maybe "ALONE" or something because they are stuck without reinforcements.

    <span style='font-size:13pt;line-height:100%'><u>Part Four</u></span>

Squad 1 now had only 2 people in it, Stock and Ice. Squad 2 had much more luck though, nobody was injured. They finally saw something though, something growing on the wall.

“Look, there’s bacteria. We must be close to… Something…” Titus said. They quickened their pace in nervousness and anxiousness. Then the problems began. Motion Tracking just completed researching, and they saw various lifeforms approaching them from every side.
“Guys, stay together. Don’t run off! Keep moving,” Cala ordered his squad. “Always move to where there’s more bacteria, it’s our mission.”
“Sh*t, 2 Skulks behind us. Run forwards, we might be able to avoid them,” Cala quickly said. The Squad moved quickly through the halls, avoiding any obstacles, checking their map’s for the position of the Skulks. They turned a corner, when 2 spikes hit Titus right in his arm.

“Damnit, who the hell shot me!” Titus yelled without thinking. He tumbled backwards, taking Cala with him. Mince got shot with the next two spikes, right in his chest plate. The speed of the spikes knocked him back into the wall, temporarily stunning him. A Gorge emerged from behind the barricade of bacterial artillery, to give him something also. The Gorge launched a ball of acid right onto Mince’s chest plate, melting it away. The next two spikes went almost right through his chest. He fell to his knees in pain, still holding some life in him, until two more spikes shot from the OC wall, right into his forehead.
“Holy sh*t!” Cotton exclaimed. They sat down, their dead team mate beside them, while Titus tried to get the spikes out of himself.
“Ouch! Aaaah! I can’t get ‘em out,” Titus yelled, “give me a medpack commander!”
“Damnit, what the hell happened to you guys. Squad 1 just got almost completely wiped out, and now this.” Ridge said to them.
“Great, those 2 Skulks are here.” Cotton said. Cotton and Cala pointed their LMG’s at the corner where they would come in, but Titus dropped his right infront of the OC wall. He searched around for his pistol, but was unable to reach it in time. Cotton and Cala were already shooting, so Titus whipped out his knife. *click* *click* Both of their LMG’s emptied at the same time, 1 bullet hitting the Skulk. Titus ran at the oncoming Skulk, yelling.
    “Aaaaaah!” He yelled.
“What the hell are you doing!” Cala yelled at him. It was a strange moment. The Nanobots created a medpack for him, and the Skulk bit him at the same time. It seemed like Titus was in control, any damage the Skulk did was instantly healed, until he took a good swipe at the Skulk, cutting it right in half.
Then, far in the distance, they heard more noise, a roar of some sort. There was no time for cheers or grieving, the roar got louder and louder.
“No freaking way.” Titus said to himself, unable to get the message to his team mates over the loud roars.

“Comm, what the hell do we do!” Ice yelled at the commander.
“Shut up, I’m thinking.” Ridge replied.
“Where’s Firefly?” Stock asked the commander.
“I’m not sure, he’s not showing up here.” He said. “He must’ve damaged his helmet, or the part of it that transmits his nanos’ readings. I can’t see him anywhere, he probably got bit in the head by a Skulk…”
“Great,” Ice said, “two people left. I hope Squad 2’s doing better than us…”
“Ok, I want you guys to head back to base. I’ve researched Heavy Armor, and I’ll give you guys some HMG’s and Shotties. I’ll instruct Squad 2 to do the same.” Ridge ordered the Marines.
“Roger that, heading to base.” Stock said in recognition. Ice and Stock moved back to the Marine start. It would take them a while, they were already half of the way through the large space station.
