<div class="IPBDescription">Even still! It continues...</div> I have come to the decision, after running into a space where i have some more slight spare time that i find myself asking this question:

Even though I haven't heard any of the songs yet, I find myself compelled to express my respect a job well done, this is probably the first time I have seen some one do music tracks for a game like this, and I can only assume that it is nicely done, while waiting on this damn slow as hell network connection to download at... oh around 24k a second <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
regardless, I have much respect for even the ATTEMPT made, good job

heh... well now that's its done downloading and I've heard one of them (cornered marines) I must say I was surprised, I was expecting ambient music, instead this is more of an upbeat scenario ripped mix... not bad regardless, I think you should try to do one song with pure beats though, and forget the game .wav's, they kinda undermine the music... my comment still stands, good job...

Is it possible to get some of the songs like "Raven's Cradel" without the NS sounds? I'm a huge fan of classical remix, and I like the ambient backups... even though
    Classical > all
    sorry guys, I'm a slave to teh Badinerie <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Those are very difficult to remix and the hardest thing is which one to attempt try remixing cos they always dont fit. If you like ravens cradel's classical tune that was Motzart - Requiem.

I need a classic song that has 4/4 beats per bar and doesnt switch to 3/3 half way like some confusing ones do.

I suppose i could do some voices again. Another comedic script eh?

If you want me to add that then your going to have to make me a small script up, im absolutely useless at thinking of lines, but once i have them im ok.

    Also known as Dies Irae.

This is some great stuff. Raven's cradle would have been nice if the Dies Irae parts were a bit louder in contrast with the beat. Sounds kind of washed out in comparison, which is a shame.

well first of all... these are way cool, and about as soon as im finished writing this i am gonna play a fewrounds of NS with my new batle music <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
but ravens cradle must be my fav music wise, and cornerd marines for the sheer feeling of it.

    random noise after listening to "corned marines";
i want more music underlined by the HA walking sound... and sieges <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Bou-yah. I love the little duckjob bit in Cornered Marines [because I love the duckjob thing; it doesn't fit very well here, though], but it's not otherwise anything I'd write home about. It feels like standard clubish stuff. Not very inspired, until the marching and synth stuff comes in around 2:15 or so [the synth sound also appears at 0:55 and is nice there too]. That HA walking sound would probably work well in something else with that type of organ, but it's just lost in this piece.

Infestation feels pretty good, but it could use more *oomph*. It feels a bit like a SNES track as it is. That simulated guitar could stand to feel stronger. It's a solid tune, though. The movement is good. The samples from NS just don't seem to fit.

I notice you're using the duckjob fairly often. Long Game started pretty good with the deep resounding piano bit, but then it falls to that weakish plinking beat that just doesn't feel very satisfying. It develops a bit once you bring in the guitarish riff, but it's still unsatisfyingly weak. You used the Kharaa narrator voice to nice and subtle effect around 1:54 and 1:58-59, which is nice and mysteriously moody. The ding-ding-ding at 2:37 is--again--quite weak and maybe not really useful. It repeats at about 3:11 and is still not quite good, though the music itself around this point is nice and has little Asian undertones, which could stand to be highlighted. The entire ending sequence just doesn't fit.

Duckjob's presence is felt at the beginning of the NS Tribute track again. The beat of this track is done rather well and has some *oomph*, but it's rather boring. The spatterings of gunfire and such don't do much to enhance anything.

Ravens Cradel [Cradle?] is... About the same. Still with a weak techno beat. The poor samples used from a classical operatic piece aren't crisp enough to really make much of a strong impact. The quality of the piece used is just too low compared to everything else.

The plinking cymbal beat in Ride the Onos is... Quite irritating, though the rest of the piece is quite nice up to 1:10. The guitar is used to very good effect [until the high-pitched one kicks in, which is equally irritating]. At roughly 1:44 you kill the cymbals, which is much nicer. The darker guitar rif could stand to be highlighted more. The piano bit almost sounds like a saloon piano, which fits nicely with the almost-Western theme. The twanging, reverberating steel guitar near the end adds to the theme nicely, as do the windy tumbleweed bits.

Sci-Fi Moments is really the strongest piece here, I find. It has the most depth and feeling. The strong bits I pointed out from the previous tracks would go well in something more like this. Something more honest.

Over-all, I have to say there isn't anything enormously original with any of this, but there is a good deal of potential, as shown by the little things I mentioned. But that is all entirely my own personal opinion. I never liked the disco era, so stuff that sounds reminiscent of that don't click too well with me [too much treble, not enough heart-beat]. They succeed on their own merits, though. The NS samples mostly just get in the way.

Thank you for sharing these. I enjoyed listening to them.

Iv done it myself, and if anyone else would like to use my music to replace thier NS ambient samples they are very welcome to, infact im honored.
The next song will feature NO 'ns' sounds.

Few more decisions and i think im ready..

I think i have an idea... does anyone know where i can get a mp3/wmv/wav sample or sound fx of 'Marching Army Walking'

That military walk sound would be a great beat setter, i heard something similar to this in C+C Red Alert or a other C+C games where the marching army sets the beat of the music, sound really cool.
I cant seem to find any sound samples like this. But would love to get sum.

Use the walking HA sound. Resample and retime it so it sounds like there's lots at once and space out the paces to set the beat you want. Multiply, fade, reverb, that sort of thing, I don't know the exact terms, but make the duplicates slightly different and slightly off-time.

I say this because you already used it to brilliant effect in Cornered Marines. As I said in my review of that piece, it worked well. And your ability to mess with samples--as demonstrated to varying degrees in most of those pieces--tells me you can do this sort of thing.

Final design specs for song before begin:

    Drum + Bass
    Classic-like theme involved
Marine HA walk sound to the beat (or army marching HA noise if i can get the reverb right, i do have the tools)

    What does FTW mean? im unfamiliar with that new internet slang ^-^;

i just added the HA army walking sound to this new song (part of it), and it kinda sux so unfortunately i cant put it in. However, should i think of doing another song in the future (probably) i will have another go at it.

I couldnt find a classical tune to remix due to a bitrate and quality error im getting the last month. It started sounding all ghettoish, the main song tune will be classicy but it wont be a familiar piece.

    Main product still under way...

Thats some good music there, added them to my winamp songlist. love the "quit using you hax" bit in the "Natural Selection Tribute" I actually remember the Red alert music, the song was called "hell March" (the music with the marching to the beat). might be worth re-installing red alert, to get the sound of the beat. something like that. hope you do that new song soon, cant wait <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    NEWS UPDATES
    ----------------------------------
-2 Songs being made instead of 1, ye lucky gits my last work assignment got cut.

    1st song as planned below:
    ---------------------------------------
-No classic song remixes involved. See next point...
-Classic tune involved but nothing powerful.
-HA walking sound IS in there, but no army march type. (mebbe next time ill extract from RA)
-Drum + Bass tune and whole song confirmed at 136BPM.
-Drum + Bass style beat, with smooth classical features, blended in with neat results.
    -This song is 40% completed.
-I dont think its better than Ravens Cradel but its ok.

    2nd song as stated below:
    ---------------------------------------
-This tune represents the Homeworld theme for Kharaa planet, now i havent read much of Kharaa, but off some artwork iv seen im picturing a planet full of warm forrests and wildlife where the kharaa wander freely and naturally. So i built the theme to represent the feeling around the planet.
-The theme contains some strong bassline in the beat, so hurry up and get those amps & sub-woofers fitted!!! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    -Its a slower rhythm.
-Sounds kinda sci-fi-ish in some parts if you like that stuff but this song is mainly for you to lean back and (mebbe) even relax to.
-Supposed to sound fantasy-ish but i dont know if i have accomplished that.
    -This project is completed
    -Filesize: 4082kb
    -Download link: <a href='http://www.snakewildlife.furtopia.org/Kenichi%20-%20Kharaa%20Homeworld.mp3' target='_blank'>Kenichi - Kharaa Homeworld.mp3</a>

You might think because i finish these fast that i may be rushing them, all i can say is that 1. I hardly sleep in the middle of things when im getting deep into it. 2. What is sleep anyway? and extra one, 3. I spend average 18-28 hrs on these each. Ravens Cradel: 40hrs.

<b>[First post updated to show all downloads]</b>

[EDIT] Ideas for a 3rd piece are hitting me, im suggesting doing a voice act with a 10 minute script, hopefully other ppl involved to play parts. All is being considered...lemme think on that one.
