Thye took out detailtextures since it was considered an exploit. You could make the walls all black and still pass "mp_consistency 1"

mhm... yep... sorry but there is no solution for it, because it is now coded in to be like that:

v3 b5 changelog

WTH!? Because some freaking retards cheat, we cant have ours eye candy turned on? This sux. First thing, after quiet long inactivity, i though just... yeah, new beta soon, bring it on! So i just checked old cfg, latest version of detailed textures, so i am well prepared for new release, and thats what we got... is that big problem make this official and working? Well, i see. Cheaters should be banned from life, lol. Still i want them. When you get used to it, without it, its almost like sex without orgasm jk, but still its nice stuff and should be implemented.

This game isnt about eye candy that much, but in year 2004, if you are looking for new, fresh players, you should care about how game looks, and difference is too *big*, just to trow it up, because some freaking retards. Sorry for language a typos, but this really **** me off! Arghh...

Couldn't this have been left up to the servers reguardless?

Hmm, surely this sort of thing could be kept on for normal play, and removed as part of tournament mode. It makes no sense to remove it completely.

Surely if the consistency check was implemented properly (along with official files for the detailed textures) then it wouldn't be possible to cheat through it.
• CaptainPanakaCaptainPanaka Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4718Members
Detailtextures won't work for me either (cause I just gut a crappy GF 4 MX graphics card ) but yeah... I've seen enough pictures of the detailtextures in NS that really made NS look A LOT better

A consistency check would have to scan every byte of data in texture files to notice a difference because a file with 256 indexed colours will be the same size, no matter what the colours in the index are.

I -believe-... I'm not sure, though. Delarosa? Confirm, deny?

wouldnt it just scan through the 256 colour pallette?

The detail textures weren't actually replacement textures. They were textures that got overlayed on the standard textures to create a significant difference in both atmosphere and quality of the game. The game actually looked new with the detailed texture pack, whereas now it just looks like Half-Life. Same boring old textures, same boring old Half-Life.

So, any ideas how to make em work again?

Oh, well. Just lets keep this topic alive and lets persuade devs to fix it. In upcoming beta, at least. And i hope it wont take that much time, like .5 did. Lol...

Erm, I could make client-side crack to allow detailet textures I guess :-) But it's not so big issue.. Unless you are a gorge or camping marine, you are moving most time and do not have time to look at walls.
• MausMaus Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5599Members
There are things which are easier and more malicious to exploit than this. Removing detailtexture support is a step backwards, and I hope the devs see the light before 3.0 final.

search for username Soylent green and click on his sig. He always seems to have the latest detail texture pack.

Of course, not much use for it now, is there?

i must say that i for one misses them. after haveing played with them NS feels somewhat bland compared to what i was used to.... and this old engine needs every help it can get to make it shine

I didnt know about them either. Instead it so u can add textures, maybe the devs can implement new ones like these so that it is official. Just meh opinion. Those look so much better than the origionals.
• VeetsVeets Join Date: 2004-02-05 Member: 26089Members
The problem is that if they enable r_detailtextures in any way they allow a loophole by which people can effectively turn off textures (create black or near-black overlays and everything becomes amazingly visible). Though I don't really know the HL engine, it would be cool if they could enable the feature while locking it to their detailed textures only.
