What are some good tragic movies? You know, real tear-jerkers. Movies that match the hype of Steel Magnolias, but, unlike Steel Magnolias, actually leave you sad afterwards.
Okay, some weird choices hear, as none of them are really 'sad', but they're the best I can do:
Gladiator (as long as you're not watching it solely for the action) Lilo & Stitch (okay...only for a bit...sort of...) Armageddon (probably works better than Gladiator) Titanic (might work for you...or you might laugh at DiCaprio's unfalliably perfect hair...even when being shot at) The Land Before Time (okay...again...not really)
...You know what...maybe I just don't really know of any.
...uh...try Philidelphia...I think that might work (never seen it).

...Maybe that's just me.
Homeward Bound (if you've got the crazy ideals where "OMG they better not show that dog being shot" in a movie but, "Man, how come that guys brain didn't splatter all over the wall?!" seem to sometimes fit in the same movies - that is *SPOILER* you don't enjoy seeing animals dieing.) Homeward Bound 2 (if you like to see Michael J. Fox's carrer flush down the toilet, in a sad, sad way)

At least make it look like you read the other person's list or provide a reason why you'd suggest the same movies as other people.
Here Doomaniac has already suggested half of the movies on this list; instead of just blatantly letting people spam the same movies: if it was said before, try to avoid saying it again.
Now, I know you read his list, because you're talking about the Life of Brian...but still. Why relist the movies with no synopsis or reasoning?
[maybe I'm just being uptight because I need to move into the dorms tomorrow/today... I still think, as of this moment, it's a valid point.] [edit] Yes, and before anyone chastizes me as a hypocrit: I'm well aware my Gladiator didn't have a reasoning behind it at first...but I was actually looking through my set of movies that aren't packed up yet ...so it took me a bit long (getting side tracked doesn't help
I was reconfirming my suggestions, coupled with some other people's suggestions as my suggested list to watch. As the thread progesses, I might think of more movies or agree with other suggestions, and post once more.
In my first reply to the read [which was the first post in this topic], I suggested Gladiator, and Leon. The next post suggested Leon as well. The post after that, suggested Gladiator as well. The third post, suggesting Gladiator, was yours.
Might I suggest Donnie Darko as well. The end had me feeling sad, to say the least.
muppets in space <- so very very sad i cried for 4 hours after the movie

I have cried after seeing only two movies, "Grave Of The Fireflys", which has already been mentioned but is worth mentioning again, and the movie "Bug" which is just a spectacular film in general, and for some reason gets to me, although I'm sure most people would not find it as moving.

yah, the only ones that ever got to me were all animated....
and have been said
Jin-Roh (realy messed up movie) Grave Of The Fireflies is one of the most depressing and moving movies ever. And Bambi sucked. Gave me friken nightmares throught my childhood.
there are probably a few more that I can't think of atm... [edit]oh and as was said, the professional[/edit]
Or if you need something to reverse this funk you seem to be trying to put your self in, I suggest 40ccs of Totoro.
That is infact the only way I will ever watch Grave, Totoro before, Totoro AFTER, and totoro for like a week straight.
hmmm, I am feeling depresed as of late, need more totoro.
I think The Last Samurai was sad too - I felt just awful knowing that A) all these Japanese warriors had died for nothing but the sake of tradition, which tops my all time stupidist thing to die for list, and B) their actions influenced the emperor to a degree that he set in motion the conditions between American and Japan that led to the Japanese entrance into the Second World War, where Japanese troops would inflict unspeakable horrors upon the Chinese, and would take a nuclear weapon to finally force a surrender.
It offered no moral suggestions, had no great triumph, no battle against evil, just spectacular waste of life for no real good reason in particular.....

Grave of the Fireflies: This is probably the biggest tear jerker for me. Set in World War 2 Japan and follows two kids surviving, it's extremely sad, even for an anime.
Transformers: The Movie: Come on, how can anyone not cry at this movie?
The Man Without a Face: Mel Gibson's first shot at directing, can't remember if it brings me to tears but it is definately a very sad and moving story.

Another movie that falls in this same spot is:
the Pianist (which is based off of a real piano player guy, it's one of the few movies I've seen where all the Nazis aren't completely evil. I assure you, most of them are in the movie, it's supposed to be a fairly good representation of Jewish life in Warsaw during WW2...well, the first half of the movie, anyway...the rest, I don't think many Jews got a chance to do.). Coincidently, the movie doesn't end on a sad note, just some parts in the middle. I suppose it's more of an emotional movie than just a crying movie.
And yes, me = t3h hypocrite! I'd think of something funny to end this statement with but...uh...

Some others i cant remember just right now. Most of those seem to be posted already, but those are good.
Why do the french have to be soooo mean?!?!
Leon
Gladiator
Grave of the Fireflies (anime)
and to add one more!
Jin-roh (anime) (very complex film but very tragic and sad at the end).
I've found a lot of anime recently that's had me weeping but they're mainly series rather than films =3
