Ammo Dropped From Guns...

Tiny Short Rant: Stop buffing marines
So you have a rush of marines on your hive, and you're desperately destroying them all, allies going down around you, marines falling left and right. Finally, when the last marine falls, you all turn to the phase gate and check the scoreboard - Noes! The marines you just killed are back alive now! Now they're coming through the phase gate again! And look, they're running over their old guns and blowing crap away again, reloading, and the best part? Only about half your team is through the spawn queue! I think in the next version we should be able to drop jetpacks when we die, and whatever is left of Heavy Armor!!!!!! AND CALL DOWN STRIKES FROM DROPSHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This isn't balance, this is insanity. Please, think of the Fades. Everyone, except the clanners that for some reason Flayra loves, is still wondering when Acid Rocket is going to be fixed, and ironically, I PMed a Dev a while ago shortly after it got nerfed and was told 'Flayra is looking to fix it in the next version.' That was like, 3 versions ago?

Let's see how it plays first, shall we? I think it will be a good thing. Nothing more annoying than picking up an hmg with 1 bullet.

I really like it, it makes more sense.

Aliens just need to be able to bite medpacks, guns, and armor now. You shouldn't drop a heavy unless there is someone to pick it up.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great feature. But it's not a feature NS needs, and certainly one it doesn't need now.

Instead of working on issues NS has now, they're wasting time implementing new features. I for one would like to see the game get to a state where I can play it without running into countless balance issues, towards which the devs are taking a 'pretend it doesn't exist' stance.

NS needs to fix the issues it already has, instead of screwing around with ideas from 1.X.

I dislike the feature of dropping both your weapon and ammo upon death. It does make sense that i can pick up a dead players gun and ammo, but think of how this increases the survivability of the Marines investment. Currently if you kill a marine with an advanced weapon, the next person to pick it up is penalized by having no spare ammo. If they want to keep that 10 res shottie or 20 res gl they either ahve to run lick hell abck to an armoury or spend to res to get ammo. If they don't, they will run out of ammo sooner than later and risk losing said advanced weapon forever.
With this feature the rines are not penalized for dieing. On the offense, as long as someone can return to the gun it keeps being useful. On defense, the chances of marines losing weapons while defending will be almost no existant.
Aliens- you die as a higher life form, you are screwed. You are out of the res and have to wait along time to re-evolve. Rinse can just respawn (faster than the aliens i might add) and walk over their gun to keep going like nothing happend.

    You don't.

    More bling-bling for the Marines?
Can't we have something nice for the Aliens too?

Maybe when a skulk gets killed it drops it's teeth and then a gorge can come by and pick them up and be able to bite spit, the gorge's model can even change to have huge skulk teeth, it would be almost as good as a big dog with bees in it's mouth...

You want to know what the aliens got? Knockback is being reduced quite a bit for airborne marines, so the marine won't have an easy kill after the first bite. Not everything is favoring marines.

As far as this change goes, I don't think it will be a big deal. Usually players are shooting or reloading when they die, so the gun won't have a full clip. This means the next person that picks it up will have to reload pretty soon anyway, and this will leave them vulnerable to be killed. When marines are offensive, it generally doesn't end until the pg is down, and the ammo won't make much difference. When they are turtling, they have an armory nearby anyway.

I doubt this would have to happen, since the PTers said the idea of dropping your ammo along with the weapon tested very well, but if any problems do occur they could always decrease the time weapons and such items stay in the world slightly.

On a side note, anyone know off-hand what this value is?

    Be nice.

Removing the extreme air Knockback is a great step towards balance. It's actually pretty easy to do, and it's unfair. I just also hope they buff skulks a bit next patch.

It's a more 'realistic' idea, but I don't really think it will effect the game too much. Who knows, I could be wrong.

    Look at Acid Rocket.

Acid Rocket was nerfed to make it more 'fun to use' but Flayra reduced damage , increased rate of fire, but not the adreneline cost. The result is a supernerfed acid rocket - it's half as effective. This was IMMEDIATELY brought to the dev's attention when the changelog was posted - everyone realized that only reducing two of three parameters left it gimped.

This was MANY versions ago. It requires only doubling two lousy numbers so that the acid rocket is effective again, or halving one other number so it's more effective again. I can open balance.txt and see exactly what numbers to change. The fact that Flayra has both not acknowledged that Acid Rocket is gimp, nor fixed the problem, shows to me that he could care less about Acid Rocket. Despite the fact that no one in the community takes 'Acid Rocket' as a viable weapon seriously anymore, coupled with the fact that in previous threads, clanners SPECIFICALLY STATE that they don't care about Acid Rocket since it's rare to get to Hive 3 in a match, shows to me that Flayra cares more about the handful of clanners then the majority of non-clanners.

This is a change that I could make in about 15 seconds. The fact that it's still broken is inexcusable. Instead they finally implement ideas suggested in 1.x

I support this 100%. The thing I MOST support though, is the fact that along with this buff, they get a nerf that can absolutely CRIPPLE a team: When obs goes down, MT is lost. Now think about that- a mere 2 skulks chewing for 3 seconds, and obs is gone. 1 skulk for 6-10, its gone. Its a weak building.

So while the ammo makes sense, at least with this, there is something thats a massive nerf to ALL attacks.

er. they're doing a great job, I'm sure. As long as it doesn't get too realistic and balanced. I like playing on both sides and I never really felt that the game was unplayable because it was too unbalanced......

I don't get that people can rant about the balance when there are thousands of people online playing the game day after day. You can play it and it's fun... what more do you want?!

I am with EEK 100% on this one guys and girls

The dev team does NOT need to impliment little "features" that will only Buff one side, they should be looking to set bug fixes and BALANCE the gameplay, as of Now B5 will be leaning toward marines (even more)

It for some odd reason seems that every build Marines get stronger and stronger, and require less, and less teamwork to win. While aliens need High coordination, skills, and team effort to its fullest to win ....

Im afraid if builds keep going downhill like this, I for one will be quitting NS by b8

Please Devs, listen to the players....I know its hard, and annoying, and alot of work because theres many views on each team throughout the community but it will help in NS's future, and I know it could pull NS out into a awesome, fun, and extremly noticed game

And if you are listening to certain players, listen to both sides of the arguments, listen to Alien Lovers, and Marine Lovers. Base your decisions on input from both..

It seems your only listening to the "Marine Lovers"

I for one have been in this community since 1.0, the acknoledgement of "higher powers" in this mod are decreasing dramatically. And for one, I do know. Do some research in users before posting. So you dont waste 3 minutes of your life posting something completly off topic and wrong.

Now back to ON TOPIC: I haven't obviosuly tested B5 out, thus I will quit criticizing the Devs Attempt on B5, because as me, none of us have even read the entire changelog, only a small portion of it.

As said before- there are buffs you guys have NO idea about, so why even bother calling the devs stupid?

Yep. It's being reduced, which is exactly what the doctor ordered. Marines will no longer fly 20 feet across the room if they jump at the right time, in the right direction, hold duck, right before the skulk lands the bite.

Well, let's imagine for a second that Grendel mentions item A.
Item A is currently being tested, and might make it in. This news spreads in the community. Some take a liking to it, some don't. A lot of controversy generates itself over it. At the end, a lot of people look forward to item A.
Problem is that the PTs determine item A does not work. It's being replaced, as happens all the time during the tests - but since item A had garnered fans, those are being dissapointed. Just this happened to the now infamous Gorge suckling.
We prefer to wait until we know something will stay in.
