<div class="IPBDescription">to fight through hell with all 5 senses?</div> SOOoooo...

I think I can safely say that all of us (or nearly all) have had that gaming moment where they have had to save the game and go take a quick shower to wash off all poo after we expirienced one of those "Horrifying gaming moments".

Whether it be Resident Evil, System Shock2, Silent Hill, Half Life, AVP2, DOOM3, it would seem that the games not only get better looking, but even more scary as well.

Which brings me to the question at hand.

When graphics, processors, and video games finally get to that magical stage of virtual reality (and by total i mean jacked into the Matrix/Star Trek Holodeck real)

Would you guys still play games like DOOM 3 then?

See the zombies grope for you with your "own eyes", smell the decay of a dead body, and slip on the blood of the enemy you just blew away, and feel the tounge of a HL barnical around your neck for real? <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo--> Imangine your self as you try to hastily swap out magazines as a horde of DOOM 3 Trites come skittering after you. You can see and feel your whole body decked out in marine gear as you run away trying to reload in time to save your self. eep

jeeze I wonder if these games will be legal lol.
I can see many people having heart attacks from video games in the future.

Man, i wonder how it would feel to be a virtual reality Onos <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    lets first make the rule that you don't feel pain. Then it would be a little easier, also, lets tone down the smells a little, just to prevent real vomiting.

    As long as I didn't feel any pain, I think it would be awsome.

    Think of playing call of duty...that would be pwnage.

    If QuestWorld was real... ahh how I dream.

    Yeah, I'd love it. But how would you control things like menus and whatnot? Controlling a Skulk would be weird. But it'd be hella worth it.

    I'd set my VR system next to my toilet, so I could play AvP2.

    None of this would come to be.

    By the time technology reaches this level, the gaming industry would completely degenerate into two generes:

    VR Porn for the boys, VR SIMS for the girls.

    Sadly, I think the FPS would die <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I'd say keep everything, even pain, just make it so you can't actually die or have anything happen to you.

    when we have that technology readily avaliable, society will be so radically different that the question wouldnt make sense.

    i'd probably be in VR-IRC talking about philosophy with people frm all over the planet. (hack-sign anyone?)

    i doubt it will happen any time soon to say the least, prolly not in anyones life time, but i figure if they do enough research on the brain and are able to make a helmet or something to stimulate certain senses and so on it would be possible, like making your brain THINK you were shot in the leg so you feel the pain of it... there would have to be rules however....

    time limits, so that you arent stuck in the virtual world for too long, certain amounts of pain, but not excessive, no deaths/actual injuries, and if these things happened? OF COURSE id play these games, ALL THE TIME.. i think it would be awesome

    That far in the future we'll be desensitized enough that it won't be that scary. If you took a guy from the 1700's and parked him in front of a computer running doom 3 for a few hours, he would be scared ****less.

    And HL would kick soooo much **** with full emersion...

    Although for some reason i see a USB plug in the back of my head before the end of my lifetime

    EDIT: Removed a phantom "9" from "Full"

    If your brain THINKS you've been shot in the head, it will cease to function.

    Pain wont be a matter in video games, ever.

    EDIT:: Virtual reality would be weird. if you cant feel, then you cant really walk normal. They'd have to have every single basic feel, and touch, -except for pain,- and instead its a light push, or a light nibble, things like that.

    Only if it were non-invasive and painless. Call me a wussy but I'd rather not have bits and bobs of metallic objects sticking in me, let alone making a direct connection to my brain. Kind of the same reason I have no piercings and wear no jewelry of any kind. Metal and flesh dont mix.

    The way i imagine VR [in the foreseeable future] is in a full body suit, with the sensors to track your movement [i.e Gollum suit for LOTR] and they have little pads on them as well, so they can press down a little in spots to signify that you've hit something, you're moving into something, you've been shot in an area, etc. just feel a light pressure and you can look down through your goggles, and see the blood etc etc.

    you'd probably have to be immersed in some sort of liquid [with a breathing tank] so you can jump etc... hmmm i dont know how they'd do that with pressure pads. you'd either have the person moving around very little, and the pressure pads feel pressure then the pressure lifts, and recongise it as a jump etc etc... or you'd have to have it wired into your brain in a completely different system.

    sus.

    I'm going to go out onto a limb and say that its going to be a headset that stimulates your brain and causes you to feel things. But then the bad part is hackers can hack into your brain.. thingy, during online play, and kill you, which kind of sucks.

    And dont get me started on how much clipping issues would hurt. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Or you could simple hang from something? like a harness, suspending you in mid air.
