I just tried their downloadable alpha version, I played e1m1 of classic doom in Doom3 !
It looked good, needs some tweaking though.

It appears to be a good idea to me. It seems like these guys are doing a good job with accuracy, but avid Doom players will be able to tell whether they really are accurate or not.

Mmmm, a way to play doom1 without having to endure terrible graphics. I'm sold.

Finally, a GOOD looking DOOM recreation project. Now if they get DOOM2 underway...

I hope these types of projects take more artistic liscense in their recreations for the sake of gameplay & making things look better. (Much like this project did w/ the stairs leading up to the armor). I mean if they made it the exact same well then that wouldn't look good at all would it?

    aye, and the random tubes and pipes add a bit of a ... being ... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

i never really stuck around in the doom1 levels to see all the parts of the map, but they really do look the same, its cool

Yes - I was halfway to posting an "omh no I saw this and it's poop" before I saw the screenies. I saw another Classic Doom recreation and it pretty much had the exact same architecture as the original. If it can match (or at least try to match) D3's architecture it'll be awesome.

    oooooo

    uber sechs!

Now if only I had more RAM and a new video card (the GeForce 4 MX440 runs D3 like a pathetic whine....well, mine does anyway X_X )
EDIT : OMG WTH I listened to the remade E1M4 BGM and all I can say is....
    HOLY HANDGRENADES!

I seriously look forward to this mod.

    awesome!
except... it doesn't look as good as normal Doom3 does. The level style of doom and doom3 are drastically different ... and thus the engine isn't being used as effectively.

It's trying to be more like the originals with some touch-ups, like the really nice looking stairs.

So yeah, it essentially is just the original with some facelifts. They're fixing some things like the fireballs moving in a straight line, and removing the leap attack from the Imp for instance (think about it, you'll be encountering hordes of imps later on anyway o_O )

And revamping Pinky to look like the originals. I don't know about Lost Souls though XD

Freaking awesome. Now I might actually have a good reason for owning Doom 3

Oh poop. The new pinkies are so much better. One of the best models I've seen for a while in any game, even.

Besides, they'd probably make it optional.

a good idea, I suppose. The problem is that they're sticking too closely to the original levels and so even that new level is very plain and empty.

They have monsters and stuff in it. Just not the screenshots
  • frostymoosefrostymoose Join Date: 2003-09-12 Member: 20799Members
well, of course there'll be monsters, but the level itself is still pretty bare with nearly the same simplicity of the original levels geometry-wise.
  • KitkiKitki Join Date: 2004-04-04 Member: 27722Members
*shrugs* Like that matters? It''s not D3, it's a remad version of Doom for pure enjoyment
