<div class="IPBDescription">wow, a thread about music. original.</div> Ok, since threads about random songs will probably be locked, I'll -try- and be a bit more specific:
I really, really, enjoy music. I try to listen to as many different genres as I possibly can, because practice has taught me I like most of them.
(I'm gonna see DJ Marky & Stamina this week! (dnb4eva!!) and Felix da housecat & Miss Kitten too!)
soooo...
Does anybody know some good -classical- tunes? I like Wagner (even though he was a nazi (well not a literally a national-socialist, but still...))
also, I'd like to know more about Opera. Chances are I'll probably hate it, but you never know.
Ow and metal? I want to know more about metal. To give you an indication, Children of Bodom and Fear Factory \m/
... so much for being specific, but I hope someone will inspire me anyways <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I think I could get a few people to back me up here in saying the Rhapsody is the greatest single effort mankind has ever undertaken.
You want original songs?
Wellll....I did make one...
Gentlemen...<a href='http://www.houseofparanoia.com/Tree!.mp3' target='_blank'>BEHOLD!</a>
For some operaish music with a twist, I strongly suggest E.S. Posthumus... it's more like Rock-Opera... difficult for me to describe, just listen to 'Pompeii' and you'll understand.
Lately I've been listening to Sublime a ton, they're so mellow and awesome.

Oh, and b/c you like lots of stuff, here are some of my favorite things:
<a href='http://www.digitallyimported.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.digitallyimported.com/</a>
Fun, free, streaming Techno (and Jazz)
And my personal Favorite Band is MSI (from my home town of NYC)
they have no genre, you just gota listen to understand, though Punk is generaly what is closest (though it still misses)
<a href='http://www.mindlessselfindulgence.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.mindlessselfindulgence.com/</a> Warning: Exesive Bad Language, and other rather inapropriate things, however it is music, so what can yah do.
or, just jump directly to <a href='http://www.mindlessselfindulgence.com/inside/music.php' target='_blank'>here</a> for some free downloads of their music <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

it was at the opera house. on the tickets it said it was an opera. and now some guy on a forum tells that phantom of the OPERA is a musical! OMG IVE BEEN LIVING A LIE!!
so sad.
oh, and in case that was sarchasm, Weber don't make operas
<a href='http://www.thephantomoftheopera.com/home.cfm' target='_blank'>here yah go</a>
Metal? Slayer, Pantera, Norther, Arch Enemy, Iced Earth, Manticora, and Symphony X for a few. Most of those are thrash, extreme thrash, or death metal. Iced Earth is dark power, Manticora is just...really frickin' good. And Symphony X...the best dark prog metal band on the face of the planet. Ever.
Oh and...maybe Testament. They're okay. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Eeee...I forgot Megadeth too. Just....sweet-**** true metal. Countdown to Extinction and Rust in Peace are their best albums.
IT has something to do with the style of music.
Forinstance, Madam Butterfly is an Opera
Miss Siagon (a musical bassed off of the same story, and that happens to suck) is NOT.
And if you ever told an operetic singer that Less Miss was an Opera they would stone you alive <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Arcangello Corelli - Op 5 No. 12 Sonata in D minor 'La Follia'
-> lots of variety, although mainly for violin, has other chamber strings as backup
Antonio Vivaldi - Op 8 No. 1-4 'The four seasons'
-> everyone should know this one.
Johanne Sebastian Bach - Partita 2 in D minor 'Chaconne'
-> another great violin song
Felix Mendelssohn - Op 4 No. 2 Concerto in E Minor
-> another one you should have heard before.
Modeste Mussorgsky - Night on Bald Mountain
SOME of E-Town Concrete is listenable...
And Rhapsody rules :X
Has free, legal, downloadable music (around 200!) including the link he supplies to Lineage 2's sound files.
Also, if you're into orchestral stuff, you could listen to some of the remixes on <a href='http://www.ocremix.org' target='_blank'>overclocked remix</a>, or get some of the better game soundtracks - Xenogears, Grandia, and the Final Fantasy ones come to mind.
Those have more of a cinematic flourish though.
Why buy a matress anywhre else? *ding*
Albertsons...Its your store!
good stuff good stuff

Are those bands like german?? Seems like it from their name (sry if it takes an offense on you?)
To the guy who was asking about the difference between an opera and a musical - well, a musical is an opera without the acting, if you know what I mean <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I'm also a major trance addict (Ferry/Armin/Tiesto/PvD).

<a href='http://www.tchaikovsky.host.sk/life.htm' target='_blank'>Tchaikovsky</a> was one of the most famous composers of all time. The Nutcracker Suite ring a bell?
<a href='http://dvorak.musicabona.com/' target='_blank'>Dvorak</a> was also one of the most famous composers ever.
They're not bands, they're composers of classical music.
Musicals have no defined tradition yet, and so have no established forms, the are just music and talking (similar to opera i guess).
both are similar, but really since opera is a much older art form it deserves the more 'respect'/ 'snobbery'.
Beethoven's 9th symphony is wonderful, but I'm sure I didn't need to tell you that.
<i>Carmen</i> is an amazing opera; one of my favorite recordings is a number of selections performed by violinist Anne Sophie-Mutter. She's wonderful.
Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony (#8)
There are tons more, but those are a good place to start. I second the recommendation of Dvorak, too - especially his 9th symphony, "New World."
I'll go and check stuff out after I come back from <a href='http://www.lowlands.nl/flash.html' target='_blank'>> this <</a>
For light opera, try Gilbert & Sullivan. Great fun.
Chopin.
[edit] If you want to try something *really* off the wall, check out Django Reinhardt, especially when partnered by Stéphan Grapelli during the Hot Club de France era.
