Any turn based strategy fans here?
I'm a big fan of turn based strategy. I've found precious few other gamers who like this genera, but they do exist. Two of my favorite titles are Heroes of Might and Magic III and Heroes of Might and Magic IV. I'm just curious if anyone here plays them, and if so which you prefer?

Feel free to list any other TBS games you enjoy.

Age of Wonders II goes for my favourite, althouth spellcross is definitively my 2nd favourite. If you liked HOMM, try Age of wonders 2

I really enjoyed (and still do when I only have a laptop) IV. Other good TBS games that I've liked include Lords or the Realm (1 and 2 only), or the while like of civilization games made by Sid Miers (Civ 2 and Alpha Centuari). These are a bit more building and planning based so they wont be as good if you like action games.

    Edit: AOW2 was great also

HOMM III takes the cake in that VS.

Its just way more immersive, and the gameplay takes way less to master.

HOMM IV is an excellent game in its own right, it just can't stack up quite as much.

Yeah, I liked HOMM3 more than HOMM4 for some reason. I even bought the HOMM3 Complete pack, comes with HOMM3, HOMM: Shadow of Death and HOMM: Armageddon's Blade.

Anyone play that game... uh... 'King's Quest', I think it was? It was alot like HOMM, except alot older (alot!). That game was pretty cool too.

    Erm.... Hello?

Microprose UFO : Enemy Unknown? Best turn based game, possibly ever? (Even if it was a remake of Laser Squad, it did it much better)

HoMM 3 all the way! But I still prefer Civilization 1 (!) and Master of Orion 2, great games.

One of my favorites is a game called "History Line 1914-1918", it's not well known for some odd reason. It's much alike to the Battle Isle series (both made by Blue Byte) but it's about the, d'oh, first world war and provides very interesting history infos after each mission. Great game, really.

King's Quest is an adventure Series by Sierra (started in 1983, was the first PC game!), but I guess you mean "Master of Magic" by Microprose. It's a mixture between Civilization, Heroes of Might&Magic (which came out later) and a bit of Master of Orion.

btw, I hated UFO, too many bugs, but I've never actually played it

WHAT? What does that mean? You hate it because it has too many bugs... but you've never played it...

Oh, and to many other contries it's known as X-COM. And although a lot of people dissagree with me, I like the sequel "terror from the deep" better.

Other TBS games that rock: Civilization, Dark Legions, Arena, and (don't laugh) YuGiOh: Dungeon Dice.

I can't exactly choose. HOMM III is an amazing game and super immersive, but HOMM IV has lots of new features and polish and all that spiffy stuff. They're both good in my book.

My favourite turn based strategy game by far would have to be Moonbase Commander. Y'all really must check out the demo sometime.

Wow, the closest thing to Turn Based Strategy I ever played was Fire Emblem on my trusty GBA. Though I guess real TBS's don't have unique units that level up though eh?

    UFO/X-COM for the win.

Battle Isle II was extremely fun, if you turned up the realistics: Ammunition and fuel management and weather conditions in large scale battles. Oh my.

I'm currently playing Civilization III: Conquest. I've been in the current game for 18 hours now, and racing the Dutch for mech infantry and the very precious oil. Only two oil reserves in the entire world, and we're three nations fighting over it.

Chess & Go > all, though.

I hear that. HOMMV is in development, but it's the only major one that I know of.

Ya, but that's a tactical RPG, not a TBS. I love loved Front Mission 3 and was similarly impressed with Front Mission 4, I definately recomend you give it a try.
