When I heard Half-Life 2 was preloading on Steam, I realized I would be faced with a difficult challenge, just as I faced during the preloading of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. REMOVING THE STUPID PRELOADED DATA. I don't want Valve choosing to download files to my computer without my permission. I want to scream at the screen every time Valve sends yet another ridiculous advertisement for Counter-Stupid, because they cache everything to my PC. It means I have to go into my file manager and delete said content just because Valve wanted to advertise yet again (after downloading the content to my PC) that hey, look at that, they have a game available! If there is one big problem with Steam, it's the mindset that I would want to buy new games, rather than play a game that now requires Steam for multiplayer. If they'd leave me alone, I'd be grateful.

I don't play counterstrike. I don't want to play counterstrike. I certainly don't want ads installed w/o my permission on my computer. Ad-ware?
Quaunaut, are you saying that if a company does something you don't like, then three months later does another thing you don't like, you don't connect the two? You say "eh, it's been three months, they can do another thing I dislike"? I never said it was difficult to remove preloading or the html/graphics (from the ads). I said it shouldn't be loaded on my computer in the first place! The point is, I don't want anyone caching anything to my computer without my knowledge and/or permission!

Not that it's particularly useful. You can see on the icon in the tray if it is downloading something, and unless you have reinstalled steam recently you are probably aware of what is being updated and can check the % in its properties.
Well, Its now the 18th, HL2 didn't preload, however, CS:S did. I've already played CS:S, and toyed with the engine, and (me being a fan of CS) I think its an awesome game. Everything about it looks really good, and there's fun stuff to do. Eg, on dust, the underpass dips down. There's a tire leaning up against a wall, and if you push it off, it rolls all the way down, and behaves EXACTLY as a tire should. So, sometimes it will wobble down and fall halfway. There's even a tire sound effect when you shoot it/ knife it. Very nifty.

This is seriously **** me off.
Why in the living f*** would they wait till PEAK HOUR TIME to release CS:S? They should have released it this morning and let a ton of people get it before 9999999999999 people get on this afternoon and either get it then, or get on to see if they got it and the such.

It sucks that it'll be around 2am here when it's unlocked and that I have to be up early tommorow to get my exam results, but that's the breaks. Roll with the punches.

In that case there's no way I'm spending $30 to play a crappy mod on an engine that will be out in a few months anyways.

What I think should have been done, is that first they upload a hl2 demo, and a week afterwards they ask wether you want it prechached on your hdd.
