Battle: Currently the aircraft is the one most imbalancing element in DC. Why? Because they kill EVERYTHING, are almost impossible to damage, and are only balanced because they are difficult to fly. Antiaircraft units need armor that is highly resistant to aircraft attacks. Why? I don't care if it's realisitc, IT IS BALANCED.
The idea for bf1942 and DC was cool. But when I actually got around to playing it, unless you got a vehicle, you would be wondering around not seeing anyone and just dying to bombers and stuff. Got boring.
Hmmm, i never acually played this mod, or got BF for that matter due to my half assed PC, but i would of bought it other wise. I also heard it was a good mod, nothing to celebrate about IMO.
I always laughed at how the guided rockets IRL weren't guided in DC. It'll be fun to see autoaiming come in, means woefully underskilled teams won't get destroyed by a hardened player in an aircraft.
Notice how the two people that say that they like DC in this thread BOTH like to play because they play COALITION?
DC is a horrible mod, and I never saw what was so great about it. Same stale gameplay, same overpowered crap - no, sorry, I'm wrong. Every version they'd balance what was overpowered by making something else overpowered, and then nerfing the Iraqis.
Unless you played the US, it was a silly waste of time.
The only time I had fun playing DC was when I was flying the helicopters, where you would totally own everything. Air, ground, made no difference, you could detroy it with the helicopter. In BF1942 and DC for that matter, if you weren't in the vehicle, you were left out in the cold... and it's quite boring running/driving around in a vast desert while getting shot at by stuff in the sky. The helicopters are amazingly fun to fly... that was the only thing keeping me playing the game in the past.
Ah, memoring of playing Desert Combat. Uber lag. Attempting to fly a helicopter; the nearest vehicle to me. Loop-the-loop. Apparently helicopters can't loop-the-loop.
BF is a fun game, I'd play it a lot more if i didnt suffer huge lag for no sane reason, particularly in the DC mod. The original was great fun, and a great idea, and some of my friends will certainly hate to see DC go.
Only downside, as I say, was that Iraqi AA weapons didn't home in the slightest, when really they should. That would be half the balance right there, as a Coalition chopper rush or aircraft assault is largely unstoppable on a PUB server.

I personally never played Desert Combat. Heck, I don't think I've even seen a screenshot of it. But I imagine that it had its dedicated fans, much like we have ours. And now those fans are left without a future for their favorite game.
If anything, this is a time to try to welcome some of those people into our own community, rather than try gloating over the grave of a mod we never directly "competed" against (except for one now-insignificant gamespy-hosted vote). <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> ^ good comment.
Also, I thought this was about the HL mod Desert Crisis, and I was having trouble understanding how DC(risis) could beat NS in a gamespy poll <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I tried this DC mod, but didnt like it due to the arcade style jets and other arcade like stuff. The unflyable choppers made me lose all interest in this mod :S
But I take it no one has ever heard of the forgotten hope mod for bf1942. since thats all I play on the bf1942 engine, and it totally outspanks any mod on that engine <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The one thing I didn't like about BF1942 and it's mods though is that you couldn't aim right. I mean come on where I look my gun at is when the bullet will go minus the slight trajectory curve (very slight actually). I like HL's aiming system much better. So HL2 which has vehicle capabilities will pwn BF1942. Just have patience.
It was a nice mod, and I enjoyed the concept, but I can see why they dumped it. There are certain balance problems in that game that could never be ironed out, like the fact that if you are not in a vehicle you were just a target for those who were. And the fact that you spent half of your time camping a vehicle spawn point with 20 other guys to get the vehicle you want.
Maybe they will have better luck on a different game engine.
Vehicle camping is like Armoury humping, you'll never remove it because nubtards will ALWAYS grief.
What they could have done is boost the anti vehicle weaponry so that you really needed to have a full tank of people. How many times have you seen one guy jack a tank and hog it solo for the entire round?
I'll tell you whats interesting tho.. any server I played on, noone used the healing APCs. Surreal, considering they're rather nifty in assaults.

Well, DC overall wasn't too bad IMO- but the fact that it had so many exploits and lamers, it wasn't fun unless you were on the cool Baghdad maps where the only vehicle was like a truck with a turret in back or a humvee- those were some action-filled romps, I loved 'em. Too few though <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Luckily though, Flayra is taking a very business-like mind to handling NS at the moment, so thats probably whats keeping it alive.
I like BF and I liked DC, its sad to see any FPS mod die, we shouldn't rejioce in a a part of FPS culture dying out, I mean even games like richochet deserve there little spot in the FPS world, I feel bad that DC has fallen and let us have this be a reminder that we don't want that to happen to NS
so make sure you play a lot, don't lame and exploit make a fun gaming expierence for all players and I think the NS mod will be just fine
