I'm in!
Only problem is I know nothing about Warhammer. At all. It looks like a cool RTS game, but I'm going to need info. I know lots of people here like WH40K, so if you would, please tell me some good unit combos! Links to info sites would also be appreciated, but if you actually know about the game/universe I could use some tips...

w00t.
And before you say "OMG thats unfair"- realize it was the game PUBLISHER'S choice, not fileplanet's. It was Fileplanet's to make it exclusive to the subs- and frankly, if you were running a business, you would too. I mean, honestly- how many folks would get in if it was 100% open to everyone?(which it is on the site for it I believe).
Ahem.
Well here's the basic basic lowdown on the four races:
Orks: They like to kill. That's about it. They were genetically engineered as a warrior caste by the "old ones" who are now all extinct, along with the gretchen (who might not be in the game) as a slave caste. Due to their genetically engineered nature, some of them have abilities from birth such as drivers, mechanics and doctors. These inherent abilities are very crude, hence most orky "teknology" is very unreliable, and looks like it was bolted together from scrap and scavenged enemy weapons, which it frequently is.
Oh, and they grow from spores in the ground like mushrooms. There are a LOT of the beggers, numbers are their main advantage. They much prefer hand-to-hand (with great big axes) to shooting, as they feel very little pain.
And they're green.
Eldar: Enigmatic and mysterious is what the game's webpage would probably say. They live aboard craftworlds which are basically great big spaceships of dewm, since their homeworld was destroyed in a little "accident" which I won't go into, but suffice to say they are very ashamed of.
They are basically based on elves from many many fantasy novels, and as such are arrogant and aloof, and favour an elegant fighting style (think kung-foo), as well as the fact that they live for about a thousand years.
Their basic unit is the guardian; every Eldar is trained to fight, there are too few of them for anyone not to be. In the board game they die quite fast with little armour, but have quite nasty guns.
They also have "aspect warriors" which have dedicated their lives to one fighting style with such total devotion that (according to the background) a human could never match. As far as I remember (never played eldar) these are:
Dire Avengers: Nasty guns, okish armour, good firing accuracy.
Striking scorpions: Hand-to-hand oriented; armed with pistols and chainswords (a chainsword is exactly what it sounds like), as well as mandible thingys on their helmets which let off a lasery "sting", which is where they get their name from.
Howling Banshees: Mostly female, they are very close combat oriented, armed with pistols and power weapons, which are basically light sabers in that they cut through pretty much anything. Their nastiest weapon is built into their helmets; an amplifier which turns their battlecry into a high-pitched psychic scream which paralyses their foes. I don't know how this is going to be represented in game...
Dark Reapers: Heavy armour and missile launchers. What more is there to say?
Warp Spiders: Looking very much like spiderman, they are armed with web spinners, and the ability to teleport short distances.
Flame Dragons (I think that's the name): Armed with Melta guns, which are basically great big microwave cookers. Short-ranged, they literally melt their targets, or vaporise them in the case of organic targets.
Space Marines: "The Emperor's finest", genetically modified super-dudes, they have 2 hearts, a ribcage fused into a solid protective shell, and many other nice little upgrades such as the ability to bite through steel and spit acid, not to mention they live for several hundred years. They are very hard. Oh, and very few of them are under seven feet tall.
Their fighting style is far more brutal than the Eldar's elegant fighting style, but not quite as savage as the ork's "hit em til they be ded" tactics.
Their standard weapon is the boltgun. It fires solid rocket-propelled bolts which are basically small missiles, which penetrate into their target and then explode. You don't want to get hit by one.
Their basic units are:
Tactical Squad: 10 marines, usually one armed with a heavy weapon (missile launcer, heavy bolter e.t.c) and one with a special weapon (plasma gun, flame-thrower e.t.c). The rest are armed with boltguns.
Assault Squad: 10 marines, all armed with bolt pistols and chainswords. Oh, and did I mention they have jump-packs? I'm sure you recognise them from the trailers. 10 8-foot super-human soldiers in power-armour flying through the air towards you is quite daunting to say the least.
Devastator Squad: 10 marines, 4 armed with heavy weapons.
Terminators: Heavy armour, and I mean HEAVY. If you've played planetside, they are much like MAX units. They are the elite of the elite, and very, very scary. In the board game they can be either heavy-weapon oriented or close-combat oriented, so I don't know how this will work in-game. I would think sticking them at the front to soak up all the small arms fire would work well, but keep them well away from heavy weapons.
Dreadnaughts: The big waddling death-machines from the videos. Essentially great big terminators, they can chew pretty much anything up in hand-to-hand.
Predators: Tanks. Yeah. I'm getting tired of typing, I think you know what tanks do.
Chaos Marines: Ugh, I was going to go into the backstory but now I can't be bothered. Suffice to say they are evil. Very very evil. I mean demon worship evil, only the difference is the demons actually return the favour. Essentially the same as regular space marines, only they favour hand-to-hand since they are evil after all.
I don't know if that's what you wanted to hear, but it gave me something to type for a while
That would win a few bar bets.

No you don't.
There are several I've met already that aren't in any way involved with Fileplanet- don't even have a base user account. [edit2]: THIS beta is closed Fileplanet/IGN subscribers only, but there is a beta(which we interact with) that is anyone.
Edit: In the install, there is a link here for a "Possible Open Beta Waiting List"- sign up on here if you have no subscriptions, and you'll get first notices and warnings of the open beta.

*dont hurt me*
Anyway I signed up. Hope it will be more fun then the Planet Side: Core Combat beta. x.x
Tyranids would make the game 10 times better. And what's with the no Imperial Guard either? Imagine a Basilisk in this :o It's still a really nice game however. (I too am in the beta)
Seconded. Only i never get picked for betas ever. EVER!

until its confirmed/denied... keep posting i cant get in [dont think i will anyway, unless i can still sign up somewhere??].. so keep posting pictures, and clips, movies, etc
Its just plain wrong.
Me too. I downloaded the installer last night but fell asleep
before I got around to installing and getting my key.
Will be on it tonight from 6pm (GMT) if anyone fancies
joining me. (Er... it is multi-player right? I'm losing
track of what i've been downloading since I got my Subscriber account )
Its simple. You signed an NDA. Your not supposed to release any information about the beta. By posting that screenshot you've disclosed information, hench you've broken the NDA.
Its just plain wrong.

The Guard will have a role in the singleplayer, though I dont think its known yet if you'll actually be able to control the units.
