focusleap is garbage

Is it just the servers Im playing but has the masses of comabt players at last realized the power of the silence, removing the biggest advantage hearing from marines!

I realized this thing yesterday when waiting to respawn that allmost everyone had silence....

in beta3 focus leap was the thing and silence was unusual sight before end of the game...

Ps. this was combat only if you didnt realize

Scent or fear first, then silence.

The combination of the two is deadly.
• DiablusDiablus Join Date: 2003-03-31 Member: 15080Members
actually slience/focus and or claoking is the deadliest.

but with SOF you can choose your target even before they know you are there... I go SOF, focus then silent.

I get silence first, becouse i can hear the number of marines coming, their direction and distance.
I never get SOF.

A Silence-Celerity-Focus Lerk is one of the most annoying things if you are a marine player.

I don't play combat much, but I remember a while ago being very frustrated at this one guy using that combination. It was hard to keep track of him even with motion tracking.

Yeah, Silence is effective. You know another upgrade that's even less popular, but counters it 100%? Motion Tracking.

This kills marines in combat WAy too much, they have to spend 2 levels on scan/mt to combat the cloak/silence/focus spawncamping !!!!!!!!s
• ZekZek Join Date: 2002-11-10 Member: 7962Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
Silence/Cloaking alone takes 2 levels, not to mention the fact that only one person has to get Scan to counter an entire team of cloakers.

Don't think so.
MT helps to determine enemy's position without sound, but while fighting
(especially close-fights; shotgun vs. circlestrafing) it's more difficult to aim, move and dodge against a silenced enemy.

Agreed, and combined with scent of fear, you wait till they are walking away from you, then then wont see on on MT at all.

You can never beat silence in dark places, not even with MT.

Well, at least it's good that people are realizing that there's more to the game than Cloak-Focus or leap-focus.

Been using Silence for a long while now... easily my preferred first upgrade in NS or CO mode. With a little skill, it lets you take on two or three Marines as a Skulk, and survive, killing them all. People just don't seem to realize; Cloaking covers the 90 degrees (roughly) you can see. Silence covers the 270*360 degrees you can't.
Carapace keeps you alive for a few more bullets. Silence makes it almost certain that you won't even be shot at until it's far too late.

But I have found that silence isn’t 100%. If I turn my volume up I can hear the occasional step which is more then enough to get were there coming from.
• DelphiDelphi Join Date: 2003-04-02 Member: 15134Members, Constellation
I usually take celerity first, just to see if I have that nifty "if you're moving, you're almost impossible to kill" bug.

If I don't, I focus on ambushes without silence, but it is fun to mix it up once in a while. Some combos are exceedingly powerful.

All i can say is Silence + My playing style = dead marines leaving base ^^

Also i find that Marines have alot of upgrades that are alot more useful, As aliens i always seem to run out of upgrades to get rather than points, and vice versa for marines.
ie i'd want MT + lvl3 weapons resupply and JP
but if i was an alien the only upgrade left that is useful which i might like everynow and then is focus since i never consider getting cloak, redempt and the 3rd hive ability

silence has always been one of the best alien upgrades i believe , my team in clan wars build movement chambers first off alot of the time and go straight for silent skulking , its also great for gorges which allow them to heal for much longer & allow the fade to blink around much more making it harder to hit.

Motion tracking is one of those upgrades that let you be prepared for ambushes and close encounters so that they're delt with with utmost efficiency.

Shotgun + MT = dead skulk. Always. Unless you can't aim.

The only thing that could potentially kill you while you have MT is the slow refresh rate (Leaping skulks make MT VERY ineffective, couple it with silence, and you'll surprise him.), or they come up behind you with silence; because with MT, you kind of relax and let your guard down...unless you're paranoid like me and checks the minimap every chance i get.

However, if you do screw up, and let him run circles around you, then yes, you're pretty much screwed.

Combat is interesting because of the whole possibilities of upgrades.

Sometimes when I go lerk I get silence, last though
My usually upgrade order

second hive
adrenaline

Save for focus if they have JP

Cara.
Silence.

By then the game is over.

Silence can be very useful, as many people ignore the MT upgrade.

oh and focus is a MUST for lerks, JPs go down so much faster, all you have to do is take away their armor and its a one shot kill

Thats walking. Silence is complete (short of some bugs).

And yes its fun. But half the time I find myself too lazy on a co_ map to use it correctly, and end up just charging head on with silence. Still works though, as nobody expects something that ragingly stupid.

Yes and do you know why your clan builds MC first?

Because they are clever.

I only wish more public servers would follow suit.

...but anyway thats a whole other disscussion.

never underestimate speed.
I pick celerity, if its not enought I combine with leap.. now THAT makes a punch.
If they do not hear but see you're dead. However if they see but cant hit, well, thats better.

Shotgun+armor+mt+resupply+welder in that order, and grab a teammate with the same equipment, then proceed to tear the poor silence/cloak/celerity/focus skulks to shreds. Just remember to weld your armor up once you get hit, and you'll find out why low-level lifeform beefing is unpopular on servers with people that actually know how to aim

Yeah, strafeturning + leap + Celerity + Silence = he's in your face while his MT blip is still having a smoke in the Hive. Really annoying, I wish I didn't drop out of the sky like a rock the moment my FPS get low - co would actually be kind of fun

Tbh celerity is THE upgrade. If you move like a lunatic you can rush any marine with a good chance of sucess. I just played a little with a clan last night and had the opportunity of seeing mu with celerity, leap and silence.....pretty unstopable tbh. I tend to get celerity then fade to deal with jetpacks and pretty much anything else.

Silence owns all. First you get silence then take SoF now you are a hunter. Throw some celerity and leap in there to toss it up.
