Which Is The Best Bittorrent Client?
<div class="IPBDescription">So many to choose from...</div> DISCLAIMER: This thread neither supports, advocates or encourages the sharing of illicit materials and exists ONLY to discuss Peer to Peer sharing clients, not the files said clients may or may not share. Okay, let me just start this by saying that I use bittorrent extensively. Whenever files are offered for download via Bittorrent, I usually take that option, even if it would be faster to use a direct download, I find it satisfying to help seed files to other people. However, recently I realized that the client I use (<a href='http://www.shareaza.com/' target='_blank'>Shareaza</a>) does NOT advocate resuming a set of files you already have a few of. Sure it can pause and resume downloads within itself, but this is if and only if you were downloading the file from the beginning through shareaza. This means, if I were downloading a set of files blank01 blank02 and blank03,
if I already had the complete blank01 and it was the exact same file (same name-same size) as the one that was provided in the tracker, shareaza would STILL try to redownload the file from everyone providing it. This is because shareaza downloads random pieces of the ENTIRE set of files at the same time from different peers. So the set of files is counted as one single file, and after you have the whole thing, <i>only then does it bother to sort out which bits of data go where.</i> At least, that is how it works in so far as I have been able to understand it.
So since I had a bunch of files in a set already, I went ahead and got <a href='http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/download.html' target='_blank'>the Original Bittorrent Client</a> to download the set of files with. Sure enough, it recognized the files I already had and continued downloading the files from there.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Long story short, I need a Bittorrent Client that can do all the things Shareaza can do, and still do all the things the original Bittorrent Client could do; <b>most importantly- detect what files out of a set that you already have.</b> If however you know of a client that does all that and more; i.e. what you would consider logically <i>the best bittorrent client available</i> please tell me. But remember those few requirements of mine.
If you need a basic list of what shareaza can do that I want in another client; look no further than <a href='http://www.shareaza.com/?id=tour' target='_blank'>their own website's feature list.</a>
Thank you,
Cold-NiTe.

However, the remote web-control feature of shareaza is intriguing, as is the open-sourcyness of it. IIRC bittornado is also GPL or something similar. In short, I don't know of any clients that do everything shareaza does, but bittornado does what it does better than any other ones I've seen...

Indeed. ABC has an excellent interface and works like a charm.

i have to agree with you.
ABC is a very good client.
BUt its java! ANd it runs slow as ***
I would suggest to go n use ABC though
Go for ABC. Works like Shareza and can continue files. Link is in MrMojo's post (dammit, I wanted to link it <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> )
Hahaha, your friend must have a very good PC, I suggest him to use another pc for the dowloading if he wants to Download & Game @ the same time...
I've used ABC for quite some time now, its pretty good, but uses up quite some resources and has some annoying bugs, otherwise its good.
I might try Bit Tornado actually... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

It does? I've never had that problem.... I vote Azureus
Azeurus is the one i use now.
Azeurus WILL resume your old torrents when you open the torrent in Azeurus and save it IN THE SAME FOLDER as the incomplete files.
This stopped me dead. If this is the case, I want no part of ABC. I already downloaded it, but the hell if I am going to start using ABC just after the guy terminates his own project. Are you sure about this though? Maybe I am blind but I didn't see this on his site anywhere. Though it's unsurprising at best, it seemed like a sort of side project.

I saw some of the people seeding to me using this program back when I used shareaza and it identified other people's clients. It did in fact make me curious, and I already looked it up when I googled BT clients, the interface isn't too bad either, but it still gives all the necessary information.

Thanks for not entirely forgetting my largest reason for getting another client. ABC does support this as well, but it is always nice to know ahead of time i.e. BEFORE I download the client, that it fulfills this.

BTW Torrent Storm seems to hate my computer and gives me horrible download speeds, and yet mysteriously uploads fine. Perhaps I need to tweak it, I might run it again when I get another chance.
For non-batch torrents, I like Bittornado. Nice interface, simple, and gets the job done.
I've tried burst, but while it did have cool features, it just didn't sit well with me. It's probably better than Bittornado, but the difference is minimal.
In choosing any client, it mostly goes down to personal choice.
Basically, if you group select files in your list and hit "remove torrent" or "remove torrent and files", it has a habit of ignoring which torrents you select and cancelling / deleting ones at will. I lost about 1.5gb of a torrent i was downloading which took me forever, all because ABC sucks.
the newer edition even has automatic updating so youll never be left behind.
