(AP) -- Police in Tulsa were looking Monday for the people responsible for killing six puppies and injuring another dog with fireworks.
A woman from Turley brought two dogs -- a 4{-month-old black Labrador mix and a 1{-year-old black and tan heeler mix -- to the Tulsa Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on Monday.
The Lab mix had severe burns on her hindquarters and her whiskers were burned off. The heeler was not physically hurt but was traumatized because all six of her puppies had been blown apart by firecrackers.
"She was found sitting with them, and she was encouraging them to get up,'' said Laurie Mayes, executive director of the Tulsa SPCA.
The SPCA believes the attacks occurred Sunday night.
Connie Wright, a Tulsa SPCA veterinarian, said the Lab mix apparently was used as a moving target.
"They shot something at her that caught her on fire,'' Wright said.
The puppies were too young to get away.
"It appears someone put firecrackers in their mouths,'' Mayes said.
Officials expect both surviving dogs to recover.
The mother dog, named Amaya by the SPCA, needs at least two weeks to recover from the loss of her puppies, Wright said.
"When you take her for a walk, she tries to take you to the puppies,'' she said.
The Lab mix, named Melody by the SPCA, was receiving fluids intravenously and will require stitches to repair a wound. Wright said she hopes Melody will recover by the time she's six months old.
After they recover, Melody and Amaya will be made available for adoption.
Police said witnesses saw a group of teenage boys carrying lighter fluid and Roman candles had been seen shooting fireworks in a Tulsa neighborhood and shortly afterward, a witness heard a puppy yelp.
The Turley woman found the dogs among the remains of fireworks Monday and took the two survivors to the SPCA. When Tulsa animal control Officer Charity Curtis arrived at the home, the puppies were not there.
"Somebody probably went to clean up their mess so they wouldn't get in trouble,'' Curtis said.
Mayes said the dogs were strays that residents had been feeding.

Grrrr, they should be glad I dont live anywhere near there.
There have been 6 people who have seen this thread so far. Only 1 has posted. What does that make you people? Does that make you better/worse than the people committing the crime?
Compassion. Try it.

Direct your anger in an appropriate direction. Donate money to local pet santuaries. Do some voluntary work for animal charities. Attend rallies for better rights for animals. Join the RSPCA. Make a webpage extolling the virtues of being nice to pets. Don't eat meat. What ? You aren't prepared to do these things ? Are you compassionate, or full of righteous anger ?
How many people by the Aral Sea die of cancer every year because the sea is drying up due to poor irrigation management by the local cottoners ?
Perspective. Try that.
Valve gets hacked, and thousands of gamers comb the internet tracking down who was responsible.
How is this different? This is not just one event. This happens dozens of times every day. "What can we do about it?" Lots. What do you want to do about it? What are you GOING to do about it? Nothing.

The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.
Just because I am not ready to dedicate my entire life to one cause.. does not mean that we cannot help it.
I have posted the link and the story to a few different forums, in an attempt to help other people fight their indifference and inaction. I am working on mine as well.
Are you?
And anyways, there are way more important and tragic events going on.
I'd rather donate money to the families of those who have lost loved ones during the War in Iraq or 9/11, then donate money to a pet store. (sorry that it sounds so blunt, but I think lots of people would agree with me)
Damn thats just sadistic and cruel.
I echo that sentiment.

Likewise.
Right now I feel like running electric currents through them until their skeleton pops out, but that isn't gonna happen. Who would take joy in killing something that can't defend itself?
I mean, sure killing an elephant may be cowardly, but killing helpless puppies is even moreso.
I fell somewhat that my brain has overdeveloped over these few years....

Don't worry folks- someone will find out one day and sort him out well...
and I too think it was probably some 16 year old moron. I'm 16, and I sure as hell know a lot of kids in my school that would do this.

Sorry for like...sleeping...
Anyways, to avoid a flamewar I'll comment on the content. I consider this to be a freaking shame - people believe that just because they have comfortable lives that they can screw around with those of others. Anthough, in a case like this it can either be attributed to bad parenting or actual psychosis (and since there were apparently multiple kids there, that rules out psychosis...unless there's something strange in the water in Tulsa....). These dumb kids should get smacked down by the man, as far as I'm concerned. They deserve it.
got my 4" folder and that's all i'd need..

Calm down, don't pull out the handbags just because a few people read the thread and don't post.
Speaking of the event, that's just sick, but then again humanity has a lot of low-lifes in its midst.

i've never seen a folding knife with an 8" blade o_o
Yesterday, some retarded kids at school were chasing a bird. It couldn't fly, it was just flapping it's wings. They kicked it around until they got a hold of it and took off with it. My friend said they did something to it's wings.
hopefully they are infertal....
SAVE THE PUPPIES!

Ditto. Times like this I'm ashamed to be from Oklahoma. Oh wait, that's every day. Because this state is full of inbred redneck white trash hicks who kill puppies in their spare time when they aren't at Klan rallies...
