Jimmeh, phones can be convenient if you need those things but most people are arguing that there is no point having them on your phone if you wouldn't carry most of that stuff around with them anyway.

For some reason I don't think the phone actually costs $40.. its probably closer to 349 or 249.. a lot of carriers give you huge discounts on the phone when you sign a two year agreement. :-)

The phone doesn't do any of its functions correctly, so why bother having a one-in-all solution if it doesn't do any satisfactory job at it?

It does everything I want it to and I'm more than happy with it. The picture quality is decent enough, a 128 mmc card or two is more that enough music for me, I like the radio for news and other things apart from music, the games are fun and entertaining. Sure it's not Halo or something but games like tetris etc work great on a phone.
Why can't you just be happy for me
but with my fingers, it's hard for me not to press two buttons at the same time, which sucks for something like tetris. And I don't have huge fingers. Then I guess the use of such a phone depends on the person. I know I won't be satisfied with 128 of memory and as a camera, I know that my brother's G3 is more than perhaps twice as good as the best camera for a phone out there.
As for news, I got my own non-portable radio at home that I occasionally listen to while eating breakfast and googleget to put news on my ipod before going to school (which I actually never really check btw but that's because I don't bother, not that I can't)

>translator. I live in France, I fluently speak french and english, I can eventually speak chinese and perhaps some russian. I can speak a couple of sentences in german and spanish. I don't need a translator on my phone and can help out a number oftourists who need help (as if I ever meet any on my daily routes)
>alarm clock. My alarm clock does this while my phone is probably off (nothing like turning off your phone for the night) and my iPod could do it.
>blahblahblahgame I have a GBA lying somewhere and always have my iPod's game.
>size: well my phone is quite huge compared to others but it fits in my pocket.
Whenever I go outside my phone is in my pocket (and most probably off) while my iPod is on my belt. And that's all I really need.

Yes, I need a phone for that too. I also like a portable radio, for when I listen to the radio. I also like an mp3 player to listen to music with. I also like to have a camera handy, ya know just for those moments... I also like to keep my self entertained on the bus journey to town or work etc.
The point is that all these things are integrated into an easily carryable item.
While it's got stuff you'll hardly use, so do most things, but there there if you need them.
It's like saying why have a PC, you could have a console to play games on, a typewriter to do documents on, a phone to keep in contact with your mates on, a set of encyclopedias to do reseach with, get a couple of fileing cabinates to store any useful documents in and go to the shops to buy stuff, have a cd player to play music on and a tv and dvd player for dvds, a clock and calander to tell the time and date and newspapers and the tv to get the news. So theres no point really. It's about convenience and space saving.
Edit: The phone it's self cost $40ish, though it's a 12 month contract at $30 a month, though thats 2000 off peak mins and 200 texts a month.

no it's like saying I don't want a phone for a camera because it takes bad pictures, not wanting one for an mp3 player because it doesn't do it correctly and has bad capacity, because I never listen to the radio seeing how an iPod is already more than enough in music capacity., because playing on a phone is like making a web page with notepad (it can be done, it's only **** at it)
The phone doesn't do any of its functions correctly, so why bother having a one-in-all solution if it doesn't do any satisfactory job at it?

WTH? How else do you make web pages? *confused*
Guess it depends what you see as a satisfactory job.
Why can't you just be happy for me
/happy
but with my fingers, it's hard for me not to press two buttons at the same time, which sucks for something like tetris.
