Random Medical Help
<div class="IPBDescription">Is there a doctor in the house?</div> If you have any sort of medical background, do you think you could lend a hand here? Keep flames and other such out of the thread though please. ^_^
A friend of mine cut the roof of her mouth open while sleeping the other night,(don't ask, I don't know either), she doesn't have the cash to go to a hospital though, so she didn't do a whole lot about it, just figured it would heal in time and all that...Well, as it turns out, it's 4 days after, and it isn't healing too well, so she was wondering if I knew of anything one can do to help heal it faster, or any-thing that she could eat without hurting her mouth too much, seeing as I know nothing on the subject, I turned to all you nublars on the forums, and thus, this topic was spawned, hah.
So yeah, any suggestions at all would be good, she doesn't really have any money at all though, and is in debt to the doctor still from last time, so going to a hospital is kinda out of the question. :x Anyway, that's all, yeah...

Where on the roof of her mouth? towards the back where the tissue is softer, or in the front?
My practical suggestion as an alternative: visit the local library and pick up a book that talks about it. The following is from the Merck Manual of Medical Information (home edition) but is only under the title of "problems after dental treatment:"
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Bleeding after oral surgery is typical. Usually, it can be stopped by keeping steady pressure on the surgical site for the first hour, normally by having the person bite down on a piece of gauze. [...more stuff on gauze...] If bleeding continues for more than a few hours, the dentist should be notified. People who regularly take an anticoagulant or asprin (even if they only take one asprin every few days) should mention it to the dentist a week before surgery because these drugs increase the tendency to bleed. The dentist and the person's doctor may adjust the drug dosage or temporarily stop the drug.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Not sure how well that can apply to this, but it's the most medically comprehensive book I've got handy. (Don't want to search the internet because I don't trust medical health to such an unreliable collection of sources)
[edit]Another thought: find/call a place that does tongue piercing, and ask them how to treat a cut in the roof of the mouth resulting from losing the upper cap/ball of tongue jewelry (I'm making up the terms here, dunno what they call it) and scraping the rod part on the roof of your mouth.
And as Marik suggested, get some good medical books, the general encyclopedias... They help, mostly...
And on an off-topic note: the country (or state, if you have them) doesn't pay for such a case there??? .... /me is speechless
It's what they do when you get your wisdom teeth pulled, so why not?
icecream or icecubes seem resable
If it's bleeding apply Pressure, Elevate and Rest.
If it's still bleeding after a couple days, I'd say to bite the bullet and go to a doctor.

try not to prod it with anything (get your minds out of the gutter) and i would not recommend brushing with toothpaste
i know it's been said, but go find a doc
Chlorhexidine Gluconate 0.12% Oral Rinse
It's prescription, but it's what I used when I had a gingavectomy (when they cut away excess gum tissue from your mouth).
ech.
I am assuming it aint still bleeding (as if it was she would be dead by now).
If it is having a hard time scabing over I suggest having sometihng along the lines of gause on hand and have here use that with direct preasure(her tounge or something...)
DO NOT put ice directly on it for any amount of time (it aint a good thing, it kills nerves)
FIND A FREE CLINIC!
I am dead serious on this one, if she still has an open wound in her mouth then the chance of infection is rather high.
I personaly wouldn't suggest anytihng like mouthwash or salt water for flushing it. (just plain old H20, possibly boil it to sterilize)
yah, find a free clinic and get that girl there.
Just be sure to keep your mouth clean, there is A LOT of bacteria in a human mouth, so it's best to use some sort of mouth wash every now and again. Maybe 2-3 times a days until the cut heals up.
Ewwww
How the hell did you do that? Did you have pen in your mouth and someone surprised or scared you?

I'm not sure we'll like the answer.
It will hurt if theres still an open wound, but this is a very good idea to prevent infection.
