<div class="IPBDescription">Any interest?</div>I'm one of the admins at a server, and I'm floating the idea of a "Newbie Night" every week or so, and want to know what kind of interest people might have in this.
It'd basically consist of every week or so, the server would set aside a few hours in a night where only newbies, plus an admin, and a couple of regulars (tops 2-3) would be allowed on the server. The air would be of a newbie v newbie, with the admin/reg's showing them the ropes as the games went along. Players could get practice at comming, learn why the alien game is so different from the marine game, how to fly mr lerk, just get a good grasp of the basics of the game. It'd be more of a fun atmosphere than a 'training' one, and people could learn through games, filled with players that are about their caliber, so that instead of the learn'ed cursing at them for onos-whoring, the other team might be slow enough to react to their mistakes, that the game would continue on.
Well, would any of the new players be interested in this?
ps- if this were to get off the ground, the thought's been floating around to even hold newbie-only tourneys, etc. just thoughts tho ;p

I thought our fame was intergalactic! <img src='http://www.cyberica.ca/personal/james/dsmile/cool.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Server is <b>Awesome PnB's NS 3.0b4a FF</b>, site is <a href='http://gamesplace.net' target='_blank'>gamesplace.net</a>. <img src='http://www.cyberica.ca/personal/james/dsmile/cool.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Its not yet begun, we're hoping to start it within a week or so.
go to:
<a href='http://www.gamesplace.net/forums' target='_blank'>PnB/Gamesplace forums</a>
to check it out. its under general discussion.
We'll undoubtably ask for help teaching, but for right now we're more interested in the new folk who want to try this idea out.
Unfortunately, its rare that new people check out forums, even those set up for new folk, so if anyone sees people who arent too proud to declare themselves newbified, point em to this thread, or gamesplace.net.
As for wanting to help out, come join the gamesplace.net forums and post in that thread anyway i suppose, and we'll let you know when ya can help <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Damnit webbie, we have to put up with those damned smilies at PnBs forum, you dont need to use them here.
And you filthy server ****
But the idea is nice, perhaps make it so on all pubs, just a few hours, and make a message when they enter like "Its n00b time now! - Learn and be learned!"
official website:
<a href='http://www.gamesplace.net' target='_blank'>www.gamesplace.net</a>
You'll prolly get some medium level gamers and have a great time though so I suggest renaming it or something.

Mentioned it above lol.
The interest, and I admit this is probably not the proper channel to get the true newbs through, has been very small. Perhaps we'll just adjust it to a 'Learn you some basic strats' to try to up the games of some of the lesser players that know how to play, yet arent sure why they always get yelled at in pubs.
More detailed shiz would be taught here. Map strats/locations, reasonings behind weapon choices/chamber choices, comming, just stuff to basically get the ball rolling in their mind so they can return to pubs and play alongside the better players. Even try a pug once in awhile. ;p
If newbienight falls through, and i think it will, would anyone be interested in THAT?
Lag?
And what is it about being 56k that gets me ridculed, untill i beat half the servers players that is which either gets me cautioned from a admin or gj from my team mates. 56k players are possibly some of the best players BUT (and this is a big but) they are limited by ping / lag problems that all 56ker experiance, the new netcode has made it easier but still the problems percist.
Example 400 ping server : -
I have to get a Sg to shoot aything or if i do manage to kill anything with a lmg it usually dies after i have from my lmg shots.
Anyway ill probably come past the server and am willing to help
I hope this helps pubs players
but no one to help <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
perhaps we'll just set up the first night, publicize it for a week and see who shows up. people might be too lazy/shy to post in here?
great idea!
Lag? <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->

It's going to be next thursday, the 27th of may, at 8pm PST on

If you're a newb, please join. If you know any newbs, think you have any friends who want to learn NS but are scared off by the big bad vets ;p, want to try commanding (tho we're obviously not going to get to too many of those), or whatever, stop by the server.
For this first night at least, we won't need any extra helpers beyond those at gamesplace.net, so please don't join to teach, as great as it is that so many of you want to. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> Instead, wait and I'll report in here how well/crapilicious this first night went, and we'll go from there as to adding more helpers, finding people who have better specific knowledge in certain areas (com, etc) and whatnot.
Again, if you, or anyone you know and love might suffer from n00bitis, join

Newbie night is TONIGHT!
8pm PST, at "Awesome PnB's NS 3.0b4a", IP: 64.62.138.224:27025
There will be two admins and two regs on hand to help the other 14 newbies learn the basics and beyond.
For those of you who didnt get a chance to see this before and are too lazy to scroll up:
Newbie night is an 'all newb' learning environment put on by this server. We will hold a couple of hours in which only newbs and trainers will be allowed on the server. (we have the trainers for this session already thanks to anyone who wished to help, we might use you later if this actually catches on)
The environment will be one of fun and learning. You will learn by doing in a freeform gameplay way. First basics will be dealt with, then as the group learns as a whole, we will move on to more specific tips and tactics. In addition to general training, there will be a lot of one-on-one questions and answers.
This is not meant to in one night train someone to be CAL UGL ready, but it is meant to let these new people, who get such a bad ribbing on the majority of NS servers by most of the regs, learn why they get so maligned and what to do to fix it.
Please, if you or anyone you know is a newb, invite them to come. You don't need to stay the full time, of course.
In the (hopefully not) unlikely event that this night is a success and filled all night long, if youre interested, keep an eye on this thread, or on the forums at www.gamesplace.net <- homepage for the server, for information on when the next newbie night will be.

and obviously the only way of seeing if it will work or not is by trying it, but a few things spring to mind.
the game will collapse with teams of beginners... so don't expect 'smooth' gameplay of any nature <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
getting too many beginners will be mayhem as there there is only so many you can talk to at once, but not enough means you can't actually play a half decent game
umm.. there were more, but i forget
if i was in america, i'd come along and help, but i'd be sitting on a 300+ ping from Britain, so probably not the best idea <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
some thing to consider if this takes off would be to coordinate it with the guides program... (by coordinate i don't mean 'give it to them' - i mean they could publicise it etc etc)
And ya, don't go to the server ^, then ban people who are better then the admins, pretty weak stuff.
I'd help you out, but I'm not playing NS until the final version of 3.0 is released.
Let me know when the next newbie night is and I'll definetivly try and be there.
