Far Cry works properly now!
Anyone who had big performance problems with Nvidia video cards can now rejoice. According to their website the next drivers will fix a 20-30% performance hit from a z cull bug in the drivers, yay!

When are the drivers due? I want farcry, but had poor performance on the demo unless I turned all the detail down.

    Hurray !
Finally! I had to run it in OpenGL mode or switch the lightning detail to low which looks very poor, and in OpenGL there are texture errors every 5 ft.
Does anyone know when the drivers will be out ?

Btw, I seem to have the same error in Call of Duty. With the new driver the fps suddenly decreased from about 60 down to 2 frames per second. Can anyone confirm this error who has both games ?

I went off GeForces cos the drivers were unreliable and muchos out-dated ans so i took myself upon getting a Radeon.

I loved the almost glitchless Geforce 2 but anything better than 3+ always had a hell of a lotta gfx driver glitches.

The radeon is updated all the time and is kept at its best, the drivers making sure that 100% potential of the radeon is unleashed.

Hello Farcry resolution 1600x1200 full graphics and texture mapping!!

Thats good. Maybe I can put my GF4 back in when they come out, at current I've had to replace it with my GF2 which shows HL correctly in opengl and runs 5fps faster than the GF4. Dang I cant wait.

Sweet! I've been slowly getting into Far Cry. The gameplay isn't that exciting/great, but the graphics...must ogle....maybe if performance good the gameplay will finally be worth it?

nice wanna know when its out!

btw any 1 know if any tests between the new radeon and gf 6800?

Yeah- TBH, the ol' Radeon 9800 still beats the new 6800 GeForce by a bit in many tests, but it finally puts GeForce back in the game, tying it in the games test, or doing 1-3 fps better.

The ATI 4.5 drivers will have their temporal AA thingy.

Where is this posted? I can't find it on their site.

Altough, they only say "an upcoming patch", but I would asume they meen 4.5.

And actually, the new detonators do give a slight performance boost on some games... and a slight performance DEGRADATION on others. :b IIRC, BF1942 was one that slowed down.

Also, though it increases the FarCry speed slightly, the rendering errors are STILL there. It just makes them happen a little faster. :b Check out a number of the GF6 vs. X800 benchmarks, where the 'new' drivers are being used in a number of the tests, even against the old drivers. Most recommend NOT using the new ones.

This is a GeForce thread. I meant for Geforce. Where does it say this? I can't find any reference anywhere.

You sure? wont it mean then that redeaons x800 XT will beat the **** out of nvidias 6800? Or be much better?

Supposed to. Who knows really, Radeon could just be pullin all our chains, and was hoping for a bluff on GeForce's part.

The X800's already out and beats the GeForce 6800 in DX9 but loses in OpenGL

Eh....well, OpenGL is dying, and I think we all know it. Maybe its easier, maybe its more flexible- all I know is, Far Cry does D3D, UT2k4 does D3D, and countless others follow suit.

Owell. As long as I can run me my games, I'm happy.

I would guess that's one of the reasons that the recent GeForce parts are being beaten in sales by the new Radeons. (5900/9800)

Ewwww, that rendering in Far Cry looks FUGLY! Guess these days nVidia seems to be playing "rock, paper, scissors, and sucker punch in the throat" - the sucker punch always wins

They already have. Its in every single 9000+ Radeon.

Whoa guy, don't say things like that. The geforce 6800 totally destroys the Radeon 9800 series. In fact they aren't even in the same league anymore, the X800 and the Geforce 6800's are in the same league and both of them are pretty equal except that Geforce is dominant in OpenGL and Radeon is dominant in Direct X games, etc. But even those are the first tests of beta cards, these cards aren't even out so I would wait a month for when these cards are truly tested.

Again, don't post unless you KNOW what you are saying. I know I sound mean but you made the new Geforce cards sound like crap even though they aren't.

ATI still has the upper hand in quality visuals. The Geforce 6800 has some of the same quality problems that arose in previous cards.

Aside from that, I plan on just picking up a 9800 Pro a week from HL2's release date... no matter how far off that is. Maybe an XT if HL2 comes out this winter... but lets just hope for a Pro

Wewt! I can run Far Cry with maximum everything (cept resolution, which is 1024x768) on my 4-year-old PC and STILL GET A FPS THAT NEVER DROPS BELOW 30!

WTH? Magical performance dust? Halo and UT2K3 run like ****.

Anyways, got the patch and I notice no difference - not that I need one !

Far Cry = best single player campaign since Half-Life!

Er.. Jim? The 9800 DOES beat the 6800 Ultra in a few tests. Not many, admittedly.. but the prior poster didn't say otherwise. Of course, in the same tests the X800 walks away with a 40% lead over the 6800 U, and a 35% lead over the 6800 Ultra EXTREEEEEEEM!!!11!!, but that's just icing.

Kinda disappointing, really. Normally the company coming out with a new graphics core is the one who zips ahead in the benchmarks, and the one ramping up their old line is left trailing. Just makes y'wonder what'll happen next generation, when it's ATi's turn. ^_^

And sadly, a number of benchmarks were invalidated... on the GF6 side. The new 'beta' drivers don't allow you to disable the trilinear 'optimizations'. It just shifts 'em around a little. Silly part is, they were trailing in those anyway.. should really just admit defeat on the image-quality side of things, and head back to pumping 600+fps in Quake 3 at 640x480x16. That'd turn a few consumers' heads. At least until they actually saw it.

    Thanks Talesin.

And please note- I have a GeForce FX 5600 256mb. Thats right, GeForce. Not ATi. But I've faced the facts, as should you all- NVidia is dying. Jump ship boys, before you go down with her.

According to Tom's Harware, then new GeForce FSAA is superior to Ati's
