Farcry Installing Trouble

JezpuhJezpuh Join Date: 2003-04-03 Member: 15157Banned
<div class="IPBDescription">Nooooo!!!</div> Things never go without problems, so here is a new one.

Today I bought FarCry. Back home I put the 1st cd in the drive and the menu came up.
I chose install and proceeded. The installer stopped "working" (<i>it did not froze</i>) at the point where "Far Cry is configuring your new software installation".

Then after a minute or 2 it gives me a message wich says: "Error: - 1601 Could not access to the Windows Installer Service. The reason could be that you booted in safe mode, or haven't installed Windows Installer right. (translated from dutch)

Also, sometimes when I load the installer again it gives me either a 1601 or 1607 error.
It has something to do with Microsoft Installer. I looked at microsoft.com but found nothing.

If you have Windows XP, goto Control Panel ->Admin Tools -> Services.
Make sure the "windows installer" service is enabled.

Well, since you bought it... you might want to try e-mailing their tech support address. Or checking their forums. Or looking in the 'support' section of their site. I'd assumed the latter two to already be done, but you never know what nubcaeks will forget. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Well I searched their forums and visited their tech support.
So yeah, I'm going to try it one more time and then I'll mail them.

My drive supports DVD. I already tried my other CD-RW drive, still the same.
I just tried it on my sisters computer, no problems. So it must be my pc.

Ok, another thing I found out. Microsoft Installer disables itself after a few seconds after I enabled it in the services menu. Any idea how to keep it running?

Jez if it's disabling itself I'd run a virus scan, seriously... meh.

Well I ran one and found nothing. So anyway, anyone know how to keep Windows Installer running? Or better, where I can find Windows Installer 3.0. Don't say xp service pack 2, because I'm running XP on dutch.

Open the command prompt: by typing "cmd.exe" in the run dialog

Type msiexec /unregister and press Enter.

Type msiexec /regserver and press Enter.

Make sure your virus definitions are all up to date, perhaps there is a newer one. Or try ad-aware/ spybot. Make sure any other programs you have running that could change windows stuff are stopped (Windowblinds/object desktop/ etc).

And of course, reformating solves everything.
