Simply put, there is nothing good about this comic. The comedy just is not there most of the time, most of the strips boil down to the two guys talk, leading to an EXTREMELY obvious setup, usually so obvious that any and all punch lines can be thought up within the first frame by anyone with half a brain, then there is an obligatory silence panel, then someone says "Geforce" or "Battlenet" and we cut to zillions of nerds laughing simply because they saw a tech term and feel obligated to. The artwork is also sub-par, and that's something that, with a little effort, can make even the most unfunny comic viewable. PAs only good point is that it acnowledges the unbribled awesomeness of MC Frontalot. Other than that it is a waste of electricity for my monitor to display it.
... it's back up, although some of you guys might wanna get out of the sunlight.
PA's artwork is decent, not the best, but certainly better than what some of the comic labels tried to pull on us back in the early 90s. I personally visit the website merely for the comments. Getting a new comic every couple of days is bonus!
I find their opinions often reflect my own, and if I could spend all day just musing about video games I'd probably live a life very similar to them. But I wouldn't be able to make a living out of it (they did.)
[edit] oh yeah, if you think that's predictable, try reading your comics page in the newspaper. Garfield, Peanuts, lots of them use this style (directed at AllUrHive, although I understand where he's coming from.) Being babied sometimes is a nice change from "is that a bunch of blocks, or am I looking at abstract art here" that is modern culture.[/edit]

And I do agree with you that most of them are. And I have nothing against a formula for comedy (nearly ALL comedy is formulaic in some sense, from Dave Chappelle to bash.org), but I do have something against a formula for comedy that insults my intelligence whenever I read it. One of the basic rules of comedy is that if you can expect something it usually is not funny. If you can figure out the punchline to a joke before the joke-teller even tells it, it is rarely funny, correct? Well the thing about PA is that nearly all of their punch-lines can be easily figured out, or at least in a general sense.
Sometimes their punchlines aren't, which I think is your other problem with them. Sometimes you not only have to read their 3 page intro text to the comic, but also click on no fewer than 4 links to understand the joke they are trying to construe... But that is a problem that will eventually occur if you are trying to relate something that very few people have seen/played/experienced in a short, 2-4 panel comic.
They aren't trying to insult your intellect, they're trying to get their message accross as easily as they can. The easier it is to understand, the larger the possible fan-base.

Or, if you don't get it, read it after. The latest comic shows the comedy of PA.
I've often had discussions like that while raising self-titled Vampires in NWN.
That, and do Red Dragons drink water? If so, wouldn't it hurt them? If so, why does he have a pond in his lair? Is it for decoration? Is it there incase his Dragon-Lady leaves him, so he can commit suicide? What DO Red Dragons drink? Magma?

hm.
are red dragons MADE of fire or something? i thought they wielded fire magics and could manipulate fire but never knew they weren't flesh and blood dragons.
As far as I know, they have a sack of some kind of reactive chemical that combusts into flame when it hits air or somesuch...while Dragons are magically powerful, their fire breath and ability to shoot fireballs and such are natural and innate.

Some of them didn't even have the decency to change their character's race to "Undead" with Leto.
Of course, some of them got theirs on the server I frequented. The DM had coded into the module a script that made vampires burn during the day if they were outside.

PA is hands down, one of the best web comics out there.
There's an element of modern culture that tries to break away from the mainstream just for the sake of breaking away. These are the people that go out and say they outright hated matrix 2 and 3. The people that defend book reading because somehow it magically makes them smarter. The people that feel the need to watch senseless anime after senseless anime, because it's anime. The people that absorb the furry lifestyle because it makes them *unique*.
Congratulations AllUrHive, you're in an exclusive club. Now please do me a favor and die.

Penny Arcade... gone.
To remedy this problem, I suggest we all recount some of our favorite strips:
Panel 1
Gabe: Why do they call them chip-clips?
Panel 2
Gabe: Everyone just puts them on their wang.
*Tycho takes a step back*
Panel 3
Gabe: They should call them "Wang-Clips", or something...
*Tycho is gone*
I liked that one where there was an origional joke, and it was funny.

Ham.
Edit:
Waiter: Good day. What will be for eating?
Catsby: Roast beef. And for you, Twisp?
Twisp: Exuberance.
Catsby: These beefs are tender. And the exuberance?
Twisp: Insubstantial!
