On the actual topic, in case you are into trash (<i>big</i> trash), take a look at 'Meet the Feebles'. Imagine an adult themed parody of the Muppet Show, and you're starting to get the hint.
Cube 1 was excellent IMO, it didnt deal with the obvious questions such as "why are we here and who put us here?" etc etc, becuase any answer would ruin the film. so the just stuck to the characters trying to escape (using at the time very dubious maths...)
which is exactly what they didnt do in Cube 2, we all assumed that the cubes were built by the goverenment, but to be told that just ruined it. and the reason why it was built was just as bad.
that said Hypercube did carry on the dubious maths and dimensional physics.
I'm quite the fan of Equilibrium. The HKBO-style fighting and the story make it a great movie, though I don't see why everyone keeps comparing it to the Matrix. (They're entirely different movies)
I'm also a fan of Battle Royale, the story, characters and set design were absolutely awesome. Battle Royale 2 was okay, but definitely not as good as the first one.
the math was fine in principle, just a little strange in what they worked out.
version91x, hypercube did look the better film, effects, the cube itself etc, but the story was the big let down. try and watch it again.
yeah battle royale was really good, havent seen 2 so i cnat comment.
and i agree a lot of people compare Equilibrium to The Matrix as well as 1984, when really they shouldnt.

As for a bunch of non-"theater" movies i could recommend... hmm... <a href='http://imdb.com/title/tt0296042/' target='_blank'>Koroshiya 1 (Ichi The Killer)</a> is an absolutely fantastic film. The uncut version is great. If you've not got a weak stomach, i'd recommend picking it up. <3 Kakihara.
<a href='http://imdb.com/title/tt0120669/' target='_blank'>Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas</a> is an awesome film. Well written, directed and acted. Definately worth a watch.
<a href='http://imdb.com/title/tt0275773/' target='_blank'>Versus</a> is a cheesey as hell japanese action / comedy movie. And that's it's charm, it is cheesey as hell, and obviously filmed on quite a low budget. A lot of the film had my laughing my arse off. Hard Boiled, by John Woo. The Killer as well. And Face/Off.
Of course, no list is complete without Pulp Fiction by Quenten Tarantino. Just brilliant.
Bladerunner is another very good cyber-punk movie.
Pink Floyd's the Wall.
I recommend all these to anyone who wants to see some great movies.
Ah, yes. Ichi The Killer is a very strange but good movie if you're a bit of a sadist like me. (Love the torture scenes.) Grr. Curse you, Esuna. He beat me.

I found it crap, although Sam Neill and Larry Fishburne do salvage it somewhat.

equilibrium was great, even tho the storyline was a direct rip from Farenheit 451. people compare it to the matrix becuse at the time of release they both had the coolest fight scenes ever. nothing else in common.
well, and the guy's outfit was similar to neos.
Sam Neill was pretty much the best character in the whole thing. He played a blinder.
He did the whole change thing well and managed to looked freaked out in one scene and then menacing the next while being convincing at the same time. Now that takes some skill.
It's about one day in a guy's life who used to be involved with drugs (dealing them) and now is married, has a nice house and a respectable job. But this one thursday a bunch of people from his old life come back and get him involved again. A very dark comedy. A little hard to find but great.
I thought Heavens Door was scheduled for a theatrical release in the US?

I have others, mostly films that were once mainstream. Newest movies I enjoyed were The Matrix trilogy (to an extent) and LOTR. Oh, and The Passion of The Christ. Wonderful movie, but too painful for me to watch again.
I personally look at a movie based on who directs it, not who's in it.

I also enjoyed "The Killer" by John Woo, it was really intense even in today's standards.
And the ending is heartwrenching.

I disliked pie <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> . Didnt like the overall picture although it kept my interest for awhile.
The Cube was much better then hypercube due to plot. But both were quality! I'll take a look at The Killer and Equilibrium and see how they rate. Also, I recently watched The Cell and I'm not even sure if I liked it or not. I have to recommend it for you to watch so you can construct your own opinion on the movie. I must warn you though it may have you sitting up at night with nightmares <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

when people mention the film pie, do they mean a pie ( a baked, tasty treat) or Pi (3.14159265...)?
i've seen the fim Pi, and it was, well strange, especilly where he was poking the brain on the subway steps with a biro.
