Oh, and Edit: HL2 uses the Havok physics engine, the same one used in Max Payne 2 and Painkiller. The physics are definitely legit.
They use the havok engine, but they could indeed put it to better use that max payne 2 where it was just used for making things look cool when they break.

Also keep in mind that the news stand date is the 29th, so subscribers of said magazines (I think there are still a dozen or so of those) will be getting their copies any day now, and I'm sure that just like this time almost exactly one year ago there will be people spilling the beans on any new info found within...
I bought CS:CZ for something to play whilst at home from university and that came with a HL2 preview CD, with all the previously released footage videos in high quality. After seeing that the only bit of HL2 info I want now is when I can buy it - anything else might spoil some of the great surprises which havn't been yet shown (and I will surely bet there are many). Also, I find the demo CDs useless as I can get everything they release generally a month to two months beforehand online. Not to mention that only one or two games max can fit on one CD, which isn't really their fault but it's another reason to give it up. If they switched to DVDs I might stick with it.
All PC Gamer ever did was repeatedly take the mic out of a guy called 'Kieron Gillen' and give average reviews which were already easy to find on the internet.
If games mags would ditch the news, reviews, chips and teats, I'd start buying them again. I get Edge every so often, but after reading the four editorials, it's mostly standard fare. Give me more! Stop listing facts about the game! I want a totally biased opinion of the item in question, not a list of its credentials! You! Reviewer! You like the Shenmue? Don't just tell us about its wicked graphics or hundreds of areas. We want passion! Shove the game down our idiot throats! Make us understand your unique experience with the game, not the merits listed on the back of the box. Case in point - this brilliant article by Always Black (strong language).
