Home Page Problem

Cause: Unknown
Since this is the only board I feel I can post on without being poked fun at, it's only apt that I share a rather annoying problem I've been having as of late. Every time I start up IE, my home page is not what it should be (Planet Half-Life). Instead, it brings up some multi-category search site with pr0n banner up the, well, you know. Don't ask me how it got this way, because I have no idea (I haven't been surfing any illicit web-pages, so don't start with me), all I know is I set the web page back to what it should be, and as long as I don't restart my computer, it stays that way. But once I do restart my computer, it resets to that damn annoying search page. Someone please help.

Get Spybot S&D and AdAware from the stickied topic.

And if none of that works (it should, its good stuff), you could switch to Firefox or Opera as a last resort.

Not working. I've already got Spybot.

    get adaware also

spybot tends not to remove ALOT of stuff.

spy bot will catch about 6 things, and then adaware will catch like 20+ (those being cookies and dataminers and what not)

Check your msconfig for a .dll file having commands run upon it. You've received a trojan, probably from a pop-up ad. EzBoard had one such pop-up, so there's no telling where you got the trojan.

Yeah, like said above: Go to start -> run and type msconfig, then go to start up (or start, dunno what's it in english win) but don't touch anything else Then behold all the programs that are started along the boot up, check all the programs if you recognize them. if there's something like "gator" or "ztxmlxamlxa" then unselect it(/them) and hit OK, reboot. In case you did something wrong you can go back the same way and select it, hit OK and reboot. Hope that'll help any?

I recently had the same problem after doing a reformat and browsing the net for like 5 mins without my virus scanner/firewall installed (stupid, I know) and I managed to pick up a file called finddead.dll that ran itself at start up.
Neither Spybot or adaware got rid of it, and google couldn't find a thing about it.
I ended up simply deleteing the file that was in my 'programs' folder and it hasn't come back since.

Hit CTRL-ALT-Del and see if thers a process running of the same name.
