    There's 4 minutes left on my download but I doubt
    i'll get around to using the program until tommorow.
    I'm currently playing with static meshes in UnrealED
    (for UT2004).

    Is this Softimage|XSI only for character renders of
    can weapons and environment objects be done with
    it too?

    *Goes to official site to do some reading up on wth
    he's been downloading*

    Well, it's not as bad as when my friend took out a pre-order on Duke Nukem Forever.

    I hope.

    Ignore my 2 posts above.

    I confused XSI ( which is pwn <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ) with Houdini ( which is HARD ).

    Gogo down XSI now!!

    EVEN Maya? Maya's what the pros use! It beats 3dsMax by a zillion times! Lucasarts knows that <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    XSI has one major flaw: It requires a resolution of higher than 1024 to run, and that's the biggest my monitor will go <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Besides, MAX is fun enough for my tastes.

    Softimage is for everything modellicious.

    And Sheena, I'd bet lots of money on there being an Irix version, but not very much on it being downloadable for free. Oh well, just use Windows XP Pro like all us little aspiring 3d modellers.

    1024x768 offers the nicest refresh rate for my eyes, and there is a way to get Softimage to work under this resolution. I've read about it, but so far can't out how <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    Running at 1280x1024 at 75Hz burns my eyes <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Just finished installing and reading through the list of restrictions this has compared to the full. Would've been nice to be able to model for more than just HL2 (uh...hl1, anyone?) but it should still be fun to toy around with.

    Plus I'll be able to delude myself into thinking my dual-monitor setup makes me a professional right off the bat <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Anyone know if it works on Windows 98?

    For just about everything other than games, I use Linux and Mac OS X, you see. Games are the only reason I keep a Win98SE installation on my PC. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    You think that's bad? Get this: normally when I run a large resolution for my windows desktop, I accompany it by using the "large size" 120DPI font setting in the display properties.

    This program refuses to even <i>start</i> until you set it down to Normal and reboot for the change to take effect. I've got good enough eyesight that I can read it fine now, but later tonight when I get sleepy enough it'll get a whole lot fuzzier.

    This might not be the place to ask, but anyone know how to put a picture in the backround so I can copy everything exactly like the picture but with the polygons? I know some HL modellers do it for weapon models, but that's for 3DsMax.

    I wonder if I can take a HLDM model I made and easily convert it to HL2DM. That would be a good place to start.
