Softimage|xsi For Half-life 2 - Its Out!
<div class="IPBDescription">wow. the world is ending!</div> The first of the modding tools for HL2 is being released tomorrow. How can I be so sure? I'm on the mailing list and they gave me an advance copy. It's just for models, but it's very cool nonetheless.

<span style='color:orange'>When it got released a new thread was made. I've since merged the two -- scroll down to one of Doomaniac's posts for the links to more stuff, like the tutorials or Fileshack mirror.</span>

/me gets ahold of Quad and has him get to work on Espionage!

This is very good news for everyone. That means there is some big HL2 news coming soon. :D
edit: here's a link <a href='http://www.ati.com/companyinfo/events/gdc/popups/pop.html' target='_blank'>GDC presentations</a>
And that's awesome news, finally mods will get a handle of something.
Yep.

Is it really that bad?
It's the cat's cream as far as 3D artists in the industry are concerned =P
UT2k4 also comes with a special version of softimage for it too if I heard right.
I'm sure the modellers are excited and stuff but I'd be more interested in having code/game to work with so I know how it all looks ingame =P
I'm downloading it now, never modelled in my life but as a mapper who wants to enjoy the creative spoils of Half-Life 2 I had better learn the trade. Plus the promise of beau coup tutorials to support me in my "<b>Sauce-Quest</b>" is lovely.

I wholeheartedly agree, but nobody's going to give those away for free, EVER.

I'll stick to 3dmax for now ^^;;.

And the article appears to be dated 2004. Did I read something wrong or is this a big balls-up on their part?
*edit* Yep, it mentions the source code theft, so it can't be a September "OMG HL2 IS OUT THIS MONTH" job *edit*

Everybody is throwing around random crap. I refuse to believe any release date, even the one that Valve releases.
<a href='http://www.softimage.com/products/exp/hl2/default.asp?pg=learn/default.htm' target='_blank'>Tutorials are available</a> on their site as well!
161MB download from <a href='http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=4649' target='_blank'>FileShack</a>.
I've gotta run to the dentist so I can't find you any other mirrors. I'm sure someone else will. :P
It's also coming up on <a href='http://www.steampowered.com' target='_blank'>STEAM site</a> soon too.
And shouldn't this be merged with the other XSI thread down below?

Which is why most HL2 fan sites/forums warn you against posting dates unless absolutely certain from a verifiable source.
Then the offices of Valve will look like it got bombed....
