"Happy so far?" Yeah, I'd certainly think so! Let the conspiracy theories fly! I sure wouldn't mind having one of those on hand. With 2.5 terabytes of RAM one could store every possible combination of symbols for any password, and run through them all at the touch of a button in only a few seconds. Pretty powerful stuff.
• Cold_NiTeCold_NiTe Join Date: 2003-09-15 Member: 20875Members
As long as you can play SUPAR MUNCHARS on it, it's aaaaaaallll good.

Y'know, I just realized: with that much RAM, if you had multiple processors on the motherboard (which I'm going to assume is true) you could easily use Microsoft Virtual Machine or VMWare or something to play a 64-person LAN game off of that one computer.

[edit]I didn't make myself clear. I'm not saying it would be just a great server. I'm saying you could have 64 people at 64 keyboards, mice, and monitors to play a lanparty. On one computer.

With that much RAM you could basically do just about anything you want, until the power goes out.

i wonder how much power that whole system draws.

If SDRAM something like 25 kW .

The japanese "earth simulator" uses 10 TB RAM for simulations, it doesn't use it as a big ugly harddrive which is even more impressive.

yes, hook that baby up to a SUN ultraSPARC V processor and you've got a hellagood gaming 'puter (actually 1000+ ultrasparc V's as you can have 1000 ultrasparc IV's working togehter, you would think you could have more of the V's ... yeah really, really bloody fast)

(fyi the ultrasparc V by sun will have 4-8 seperate cores, each capable of running 4 seperate threads going off of the theory that you can work on three threads while waiting for data queries on the first read this - pg 8)

yeah, that thing will FLY

Bet ten bucks it gets a virus as soon as they turn it on, and they have to replace the whole thing. I mean, that's so much memory, it'd probably suck more than three-quarters of the internet in without being told to, just because it'd be like a huge vacuum for data. Unless they stole god's firewall, (which they MIGHT be able to do) they'd have about two billion copies of M.Blast.whateveritscalled to deal with.

I can't help but giggle at the thought of a Windows machine trying to access a terabyte of RAM... much less two. Hell, I remember my first 1.5GB machine. 'Not Enough Memory', soon as I powered it up. Turns out it had plenty of memory... too much, in fact, as it overflowed Windows' internal memory addressing table.
