The Year of The Gamer.
Man, this year is looking GOOD. There are hardly any big name games coming out that I'm not excited about- Half-Life 2, Doom 3, Fable, Halo 2, The Sims 2, Unreal Tournament 2004...the list goes on.
And as said in this article on Gamespy about Peter Moneleux at the D.I.C.E. Summit, its gonna get HUGE.
One thing he pointed out was how games are putting forth more and more freedom for the character. Problem is, you could allow someone to do whatever the hell they want, sure, but it'll get boring in about 10 minutes, no matter how amazing the "Realism" of it all is(Morrowind is a good example- most get bored of it after a while). He then said(something that makes me VERY excited) that STORIES are what were gonna need, and that just made me want to hug him. It sounded great- he could be setting the world up for a huge phenomenon, of having the main ways of getting stories out moving from movies and TV to Video Games.
One other thing he said was how design teams are gonna get MUCH bigger. While I agree, I also don't think it'll be the death of the developer in a garage- I think thats where mod teams get started, and will slowly evolve into a real developer from there.
This is gonna be a good year, I hope you all are with me for the ride.

True that. Many say it's already happened with HALO, and old-school games have been setting the groundwork for a long time. ChronoTrigger, Half-Life, the newer Final Fantasies, the Myst trilogy, the list goes on and on. So many games with excellent stories, and now more of the people with the big ideas are coming to realize that this is a valid medium.
How so?
First off: The AI will once again reign supreme, with "Memories" the ability to tell others "Memories", generations, learning, and tons of other things. Sounds good to me.
Although I would like some more customization via the sims so I suppose I'll check out EA's site. :-)
I'm not a fan of The Sims, but this screenshot sold me on the game. Funniest. Screenshot. Ever.

There are so many sim games now.... but Sim Stalker? I'd buy that.
And if you need more reasons to like The Sims 2, I provide the following:

Exhibit B

Yes, actually, it does seem to be in the game. From looking at exhibits A anb B it appears Maxis is putting more emphasis on user suggestions/demands, and weed-growing has been requested ever since Sim Druglord and Sim Ghetto: Bling Bling Edition both got cancelled.
I've never done drugs in my life, but there is one thing I've always said: "Theres no business like the drug business"
And Halo 2 looks awesome, from a "I wanna play a good game" standpoint, and a "I wanna watch more Red vs Blue" standpoint.
Edit: Sirus, I second that.
Au contrare, Sirus, The Sims does offer something that you can't do in real life. It's a dream that runs among all people ranging from criminals to women/men who try to have multiple love interests at once without them knowing about each other, all the way to the stereotypical socially inept "computer nerd" that you'd think is the bulk of the target audience.
The Sims lets you live in otherwise unlikely, socially unacceptable, or enviable living conditions. (Rich heiress? Bachelor among half a dozen women?) The Sims offers A Life Without Consequences. That's why it's as popular and addictive as it is.

I was looking forward to Sam & Max, but now there's only PSO Episode 3 to keep me excited. All the games mentioned so far sound good, but there's nothing I'm aching for, playa.

Thank you, Marik.
Personally me, even though I like the little computer nerd life- I wanna see what I'll be like in 20 years, at least a eensy weensy glympse of it. And what if I wanna be a singing sensation- but never get the chance? Thats the beauty of the game.
I hope they let your Sim become a serial killer or something like that. For uhh entirely unrelated reasons. :P
But, as usual, watch me be proven completely wrong in the next post.
You know, I saw that floating around and always assumed it was a virus. heh.
[edit]
Damn, didn't prove Stickman wrong... A failure is me. ;)

No, but y'know, there was nothing underneath the mosaic. But, hey, new graphics engine this time around, I'm expecting two big changes!
I can be awfully low-brow sometimes.
Oh, and the new Metal Gear game. I just hope someone comes out with a mech fighting game like Zone of the Enders 2, but with more moves, sometime in the near forever.
Lets just say...well, just starting your mech is worth that 200.

Do not SPEAK of Steel Battalion to me. I am dirt poor, and weak-moraled.

and why? Halo was a let down if you as me, with the three of four levels of the same areas..boring!
