<div class="IPBDescription">Pirates in space...yar</div> After lurking here for a while I've decided to take a crack at DMing an RPG. This will be a Two Side combat oriented RPG. One group of players will be the Space Pirates a group of ruthless bandits that peruse intergalactic space looking for booty, the other group of players will be the Intergalactic Transport Alliance, a group of TSA cargo runners that transport supplies between TSA space stations and planets.
The combat system will ideally be a player vs player type of environment, with a few surprises along the way. Ok here's the nitty gritty, the goal of the Space Pirates is to intercept the ITA ships and steal their cargo, while the ITA have to try to get between planets and space stations without being looted.
Since a lot of people would probably want to be pirates (who can blame them) each team is balanced to have pro's and con's. The pirates will receive a slight offense bonus but have more expensive equipment, the ITA will have a slightly lower offense bonus but have cheaper equipment and a steady cash flow.

each team will have upgrades and items they can buy over time.

Each team earns their respective money after a successful mission. The items descriptions and abilities will be available at stores once the RPG starts up, there will of course be upgrades and surprises along the way.
Each team will have a captain assigned by me, the role of the captain will be to micro manage the team, meaning he will be in charge of allowing/disallowing certain actions to occur such as the team wants to go down one corridor but the captain wants to go down another, or if two crewmen fight the captain can decide what the results of the fight are, if an OOC conflict arises between the team and the captain it will be handled by me. The results of all battles and skirmishes will be handled ultimately by me, this will just allow a flow to the game when I'm not around.
The Captains
Each team will have a captain, he or she will be in charge of a lot of important decisions. From when to strike a ship, to when to dock a port, to what kind of food the crew will have for the next week. The captain will play a vital part in battles and the lively hood of his team, of course with that much power comes a level of risk.....because the captains are in charge of real people (you guys) there will be a chance to mutiny. If enough team members are unhappy with the captain they can conspire amongst themselves to stage a bloody mutiny, after which the current captain will be out of power (and quite dead) and a new captain will be put in his place. If the team can't decide on a new captain they will fall into anarchy and automatically lose any chance of income for two weeks. If a mutiny is committed more than twice in one month there is 30% chance of failure resulting in two weeks of inactivity.
Edit: forgot this part I will personally interact with captains through PMs during the course of the RPG and give them info that the opposing team doesn't have access to, this information can lead to vital victories. If you are a captain please don't leak the info when you get it.

I joined the ITA on the premises that I would be allowed to become someone important and be able to assist people. I tend to be a bit of a an extrovert. I also easily get lost in the moment whether it be saving someone or in those more "special" circumstances.

A tall, and good looking fellow, which makes it easier for him to convince people, specially females, to talk or do certain things. His problem, however, is that he is weak during battles, making him the Science Officer of the ship. His aim with light weapons, however, is superb.
So something along the lines of

Dmg: +40 vs Def: +20 with Shield: +10 + d100 roll: +80 = +110
... and hit for 3 points of damage!
Since it will generally be a defend your cargo vs. try to steal cargo situation I hope to keep it from getting overly complicated, I'll focus more on cargo loss and ship damage than people damage. And I hope all the vets don't plan to sit this one out, as we are in desperate need of more pirates heh.
Also noobies are welcome as much as vets so I'll try to keep the RPG as fun as possible without getting overly technical.
ITA defense rating is higher, but their attack rating is lower, Pirate defense is lower but attack rating is higher. I don't want to post all the specs since I'll be handling the technical side of battles and you all are supposed to be having fun heh.

<i>Our story begins in the hustle and bustle of the Carb Galaxy. The mirky borders that swirl at it's edges hide a throng of life that's as diverse as the galaxy itself, merchants, soldiers, politicians, scholars, markateers, pirates, explorers and citizens all scurry across the astral waters with their own agendas. Two particular ships are of interest to our story, both at this moment traveling lightyears apart from each other with no knowledge that their paths are soon to cross and the lives they lead now would never be quite the same.....
We now see a dark sleek ship jetting through space, it's massive thrusters capable of high speed and manuverabilty are used to escape any....uncomfortable...situations it might run into. The crew of this particular ship are known as the Claw Wings, an as of yet uknown group of pirates that will one day be known as an Intergalactic Terror....or so they claim. The ship's captain Boycat plans out the days events and relates them to his second in command "Arthur" whom had only recently joined his ranks.
Meanwhile at a dock several thousand lightyears away a sturdy cargo ship is being loaded with supplies, with it's hull gleaming from the reflection of dock lights it almost looks like a giant sea creature which must travel with the burden of tons of goods that are the cornerstone to a war being waged. What it lacks in speed it makes up for in crew, with a most capable Captain Sadie al'Sen at it's bridge, who is currently checking the cargo list and getting ready to go off duty and get to know her new crew.</i>

A screen on the deck of the ITA vessel flips on and a man's face can be seen on it
"Ok good job Captain al'Sen everything seems to be in order. We need you to deliver your cargo to port about 7000 lightyears from here, I'm uploading the coordinates to your database."
The picture of the Port Authory winked out of existence and the data began transmitting.
...meanwhile on the deck of the Claw Wing's ship their signal interceptor blinked on, now if only the crew were awake to decipher it.....
Get ready to sell everything but the edge of your chairs folks it's time for our story's first mission...how exciting!</i>
*Sits down in her captains chair and sighs, another mission, another day*
Nearly Exactly like my Space ship RPG that never took off....
A strange happening on the Claw Wing's ship, it seems a young pirate had been in a drunken stupor in the ship's cargo hold. After sobering up he informed Captain Boycat, who was presently spinning around in his chair, that he was ready for duty, and was quite adament about being a man....</i>

*Gets up from her chair and takes one final look as the science officer completes the tasks. Frowns for a second, thinking, then turns and heads to her private chambers*

*He then runs to the captain, and when he arrives in front of the captain he salutes.*
"Sir! We have a message on the answerphone! Sir!</span>
