<div class="IPBDescription">what do they think about your addiction?</div> my girlfriend goes crazy everytime i talk about ns, or playing it or something about how a map works, she is verry romantic and verry social with her family.
she can't understand my addiction to half-life or gaming or computing, my hl cd survived more girls and i have (still) so much fun with my cd, actually i bought it twice to be save and it was so cheap.
i don't dare to play a game, and if i play then only when she sleeps and with sound off so no intercom, if she sleeps she can't interrupt me with do this or do that or a real man would do this or that.
i get mad, it is boring me the way i live, it's prison but i love her, when she sleeps at her sister for a couple of days then i play NS about 10-14 hours a day.
i have 3 more computer addict buddy's with this problem and they are also stuck due love, sex and don't wearing a flexible protection against the baby trap.
my god i hate social life, then i go with her to family meetings i don't want too in miss bucket's (it's bouquet!) place, like a stiff dead in the sofa drinking coffee with a verry old hardly breathing dying dog next to you or 4 year old children hitting you with toys, listening at family problems about people i don't even know, or whatever, i don't care... i'm born to / and move da mouse!

anyone with the same problem?

Beware romantic advice dished out by gamers, for they are often bitter. I know I am.

Still, it sounds like she is seriously overreacting to your gaming habits. So long as you pay her plenty of attention and dont go overboard while she is around i.e 10 hours straight, then hopefully she will just accept it.

Try to get her to see it from your point of view. She spends 4 hours in a beauty parlour/shopping etc - you cant think of anything worse, but you arent on her back about it. You both have things you enjoy doing that the other doesnt, just make sure there is some moderation in them while you are together.

I'm a pretty hardcore gamer myself, but I realise that one day I'm going to need more than just a great kpd to make my day complete. Social interaction is important - I guess its something that grows on you....

Can someone who actually knows what they're talking about chime in now <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I can honestly say no one cares that I play(ed) NS so much...except if they wanted to use the computer...now I have my own computer...so no one cares at all. Just can't play it when my roommate's trying to sleep.

I would suggest actually talking to her about playing, if you really love eachother she should at least have a little openness to your game...just compare it to something she enjoys doing by herself. If you do manage to agree to let you play, you have to remind her she can't give you a hard timelimit either, because game times vary.

    I don't see how it could be to hard to work through...of course, I'm not crazy and didn't buy 2 Half-Life discs... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Oddly enough, the problem has never really come up for me.

I'm not overly hardcore, but I do have times where I want to sit down and have a few solid hours of gaming. Usually, I'll just poke around and play for half an hour to an hour. The time I invest in gaming is usually significantly less than what I invest in a relationship. Blasting skulks is good, but sex is better.

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->i get mad, it is boring me the way i live, it's prison but i love her, when she sleeps at her sister for a couple of days then i play NS about 10-14 hours a day.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Playing 10-14 hours a day isn't good for you or your relationship. The best thing to do would be to sit down with her and talk about it. Yes, talk. Ask her why your gaming bothers her and what she thinks should happen. Tell her in a calm manner that you enjoy playing video games as a source of entertainment, like she enjoys doing whatever she does for fun.

If she wants you to go to family meetings with her, it sounds like she wants to spend time with you. I'm not a social butterfly myself, so I can relate to what you're saying to a degree. The only girl who had a problem with my gaming was a vapid witch who thought I should drop everything to hear about her new Abercrombie hooded sweatshirt or something equally inane.

Bottom line, the sneaking bitterness has to go. Talk to her like a rational being and work it out.

He's refering to those 10-14 hour days when he's allowed to play because she's not there....not avoiding her so he can play.

That's his binge time...which he shouldn't really need anyway. If he played like that everyday, then he'd need a psyhcologist.

    hahaha lol yeah if i would play every day 10-14 hours i defenitly need a shrink! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
i got a friend with a kickass computer that is unplugged cuz his girlfriend starts throwing stuff at him or hurting him or throw him out for a couple of weeks, lucky my girl ain't like that, but that is what you have when there is a baby in the house.
within every relationship i had with a girl most of them made me choose between my hobby or the romantic stuff.
myea women, can't live with them and can't live without them.

I am a girl, and I spend most of my waking hours in front of my computer.. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

That said, I've had exes that were big gamers, and honestly it really depends. Some of us will get irritable if you spend more time gaming than with us, and some of us really won't care.

I understand what Marine was saying... we've got hobbies that bore the boys, boys have hobbies that bore the girls. If you spend your hours away from us with that hobby, and then when we're together TALK about the hobby, we get cranky.

I guess my advice would be talk it out, and if anything just try to work out your gaming during hours you normally wouldn't spend together <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> But you DO deserve hours to do your own thing, you're not chained together at the ankles or anything...

My fiancee after she gets out of the shower holds her long hair in two braids that end in little damp "claws"; she snorts and chases me around the house making Fade noises. Ah, great times <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Seriously though, always ensure that you make time for your girlfriend. If you do that then she shouln't have any problem with you playing a few games, though like all things, keep it in moderation. 10 - 14 hours/day is possibly a little excessive; a former friend of mine who spends roughly 18 hours a day playing Ragnarok Online would be the perfect example of a gameing addiction run wild.

aww, ryo sounds like he has it made...

my ex-gf couldn't care less that I played too many video games... in fact, I think she liked it, because it made her feel more sure I wasn't out cheatin' on her :-/

Pffft, every time she comes over she wants to play Rise of Nations (she likes to build things, as she puts it), UT (shoot things), or Mario Kart:DD (just plain fun). The hard part is finding other games that she would like to play.

When I was still involved in the clan scene I had some troubles (cuz we had practice right about the time I usually talked to her), but once we worked out stuff like that we had no problems. She has her own hobbies (manga mainly), so she understands my attachment to NS <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Maybe she doesn't want you to be a nerd? Maybe she doesn't like to think of you as someone that just plays Games all the time? No offence, but that could be it.

Well while I don't have a girlfriend, I can tell you what my best friend(a girl whom I would die for, no matter the purpose) thinks, and my advice.

She thinks that while my nerdy addiction is just bad, she also loves the fact its taught me more about women, and life in general, than almost anyone else she knows anywhere near our age.

See, I'm much like you. They can't stand me playing that long a day(I can go MUCH longer than you my friend in front of this PC...I am a poor soul). I watch the most nerdy things possible, then try and talk to people about them.

But the best thing to do, is talk about the stuff, in terms they'll understand, OR if they are wholly uninterested, just don't talk about it at all. Just talk about what they want- it tends to work much better. This may be the "Easy Way Out", but frankly, women don't like games as much as men(mostly because of the screen size: If it is size 25"+ computer screen, then you can EASILY get the girl to start liking, because with it so small as 19(my size) they can't focus, because their eyes and brain interact differently than a man's(hence why we are MUCH more hand-eye-coordinated than most women). Also, avoid talking about shallow things(Oh, did you hear Mary likes Joe? Yeah, I know! OH MY GOOOOD!). You can talk about some shallow things, but don't go too deep into it, because conversations aren't fulfilling to either of you(if you have a shallow girlfriend, it may be better for you to just get rid of her. Shallow girlfriends only cause 2 things: Heartbreak and a erection. And no, thats not a joke. Not to say that non-shallow women don't cause erections, cause they sure do, its just you usually get distracted by how amazing they are if you talk to them).

    Good luck, my friend.

vizual_j, to me it sounds like your girlfriend has some real control issues that extend way beyond PC gaming. It would probably be the same situation with her whatever hobby you had. This is something you need to work out w/ her, or, if she can't get over it, leave her. You don't want someone who is a complete control freak, especially if they have a tendancy of flipping out and going crazy on you...

lol, in the past month I have gotten at least three girls hooked on The Sims!

One of my female friends sits down with me and plays Dead or Alive 3 every once and awhile too.

But of course, my computer addiction only applies to me when Im alone, if I have somebody with me or something else to do (go to the bar for example) then Im never on the thing, but from sunday - thursday im alone and bored so im constantly on the thing.

My new girl is cool, we go out and get drunk together on the weekends (which is the only time I get to see her) and dance the night away. Of course, she still dones'y know about my deep dark secret...the games.

The things with girls is they don't want to admit we only want them for sex. So when they see you spending most of your free time doing things you want to do it mostly just makes them mad. You've got to learn to tune it out, the biggest mistake you can make is admitting you're doing something wrong, cause then they will bring it up, over and over, and over, and you get the idea.

Step one try to ignore her, step two if she persists play more games just to irk her, if she continues to persist tell her she is overbearing and you want to start dating her best friend.

    Right, hope that helps.
