Bleeding when low on health would be good. However I don't think bleeding should actually effect your health, It would just be a good way to track enemys that are 'In the red'.

Well, when you shoot aliens, they bleed.... There's 'blood' or ichor on the walls. Marines don't though.

    From the "Ideas FAQ":

Quote

- Blood, Gibs, and Gore: This has been discussed several times. It has been thrown out each time, for the same reasons. It has been decided that gore is not wanted or needed in NS. When you play it, you'll understand why.

No, marine blood is non-existant (to my dismay) rather than red.

When a marine is hit, his armor throws off sparks (rather than splattering blood).

For the billionth time this has been brought up, you don't miss the blood. In fact, I'm a firm supporter of no human blood.

I don't care if the marines don't bleed, but the aliens had better give off a LOT of that green blood to make up for it.
  • GwahirGwahir Join Date: 2002-04-24 Member: 513Members, Constellation
I don't understand how blood splattering around improves a game. Sure if you feel the urge for morbid humor and splatter enough around to paint the wall, fine, but in game it does next to nothing.
not quite 1/(infinite) but a fairly low number...

The only fluid that has enough time to come out of a marines body would be him leaking his pants when he sees a level 5 charging down the hall at 'im

Actually, maybe the lack of blood won't be so bad at all--at least now my sister won't be launcing into one of her rants about how horrible it is to be playing violent computer games considering all that's going on in the world, like she does with CS. How silly of her .

NS is fun for the whole family!

yep, they should definately have blood in ns. i mean take mortal kombat for example. that whole game was based around gore. remember how fun that was? do u know how much ppl care or even remotely remember mortal kombat today? man, the numbers are like...ummm...maybe that was a bad example.

and they're even planning a new one. well, thats just...great... *sigh*

my point is, with or without gore ns will be a fantastic game. and amen to that.

Personally I prefer gore, it stops my little brother staring over my shoulder while I'm playing.

It wont stop him staring, itll simply mean he doesnt see blood when he does stare.

Blood and sparks are only needed to show your hitting your target, otherwise its not neccesary. I suggest noone go on a campaign to reinstate blood, as was mentioned before this has been discussed many times. All youd do is annoy ops and things.

As i already said, make a 3rd party mod for blood. End of topic. People can have the non gore, and the gore version, there prefrence.
  • ZawathZawath Join Date: 2002-07-28 Member: 1020Members
Blood is needed. Otherwise those little kiddies think that nothing happens when you shoot somebody with a shotgun.
  • MoleculorMoleculor Namer-of-Bob Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 9Members
Only problem with a 3rd party alteration:

The lack of marine blood is probably code based (marines don't give off the decals of blood), rather than a simple lack of decals.
  • RamsesRamses Join Date: 2002-05-21 Member: 642Members
But you can change the spark-sprite to a blood-sprite. Only problem would be that then also the welder will bleed

Well, I´m not unhappy about this at all. IMO a bleeding ARMOR looks stupid anyways. Let´s just wait and see.

I'm fully in support of the dev team's decision. You probably won't want to see any of these beautiful maps smeared with blood anyhow

I don't really care either way, but it does seem like a some what pointless feature considering the mod is for an M-rated game, meaning that any potential NS players will already be well accustomed to cartoonish amounts of gore, and also there is the fact that if people don't like gore they can simply turn it off in the option menu. *Shrug* Like I said I don't really care.
  • MoleculorMoleculor Namer-of-Bob Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 9Members
Nope! The spark 'sprite' is actually the spark thingy from HL, rather than sprites.

    I hope you're kidding. *sigh*

Anyway. The dev team's decision involves several points; one of those is tighter standards for games in other countries (for instance, I believe LucasArts had to remove or disable limb severing in Jedi Knight 2 for a German release). Without human blood, Natural Selection slides under most of those restrictions.

Beyond that, I play CS, SI, and even HLSP now, and I'm rather affronted by the amount of blood. NS doesn't suffer from lack of blood... I think it is benefitted by it.

As for this quote... of course people die when you shoot them with a shotgun. But they respawn a minute later, so it's ok.

    >.< There's a line between fantasy and reality that most people are perfectly capable of drawing. Games are rated for target audiences just as movies are, and policing is finally getting stricter (my friend at Gamestop says they take it *very* seriously). Game manufacturers are as responsible as movie makers, IMO... parents need to stop thinking that a cathode-ray tube (translation: TV or monitor) can raise their children for them.

Off-topic, but believe me, replacing those HL sparks is something I would looooove to change about NS, but it's beyond my capability to do so, as there isn't a sprite for it. Those buggers are coded or something, and I have no idea how to change them. Some nice hot blue, red, or indigo sparks would make a nice change.
