Steam is, IMO, buggy, slow, bloated, and virtually unusable. Some Steam driven mods swelled to almost double their original size for no reason.
My pings shot right up, my framerates dropped ALARMINGLY (to a slideshow at times), and starting a game under Steam was JUST TOO LONG-WINDED.
...I build PCs fairly regularly, so I tend to know when something is right or not :-}
Some simple things in the Steam installer should have been resolved (like keeping existing screen settings) and it telling me the halflife font can`t be found.
I deleted the f***in` thing within ~1 hour of installation, and fired off a letter to Valve to tell them exactly what I thought of it. I was forced to hard-reset at least 6 times within this period due to it locking up my entire system while connecting to a server or simply checking settings in the options dialogue. My system is 100% stable under WON.
Back to All-Seeing-Eye for me, and if HL2 is Steam only, they can count it as a sale lost. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> I'm really sure by your email and your boycott, the guys over at VALVe will be forced to pull out their wads of 100's out of their bloated wallets just to wipe the single, solitary tear away.
Seriously.
Steam WILL be fixed and working flawlessly by the time Half-Life 2 is released. VALVe can't gamble the most anticipated game of 2003 on a buggy piece of software. It <b>will</b> be fixed.
And i'm sorry, whatever "experience" you have with "building PC's" is irrelevant. Steam is <b>software</b>, <b>not hardware</b>, so the actual construction of a computer bears little effect, that is, unless you're putting together shoddy computers with poor components.
If you're experiencing ridiculously low framerates and long loading times, you have a problem with Steam and your current configuration, simple as that.
I'd dignify your post with even more of an answer, but i fear the torrent of ignorant **** you'll spurt back at me.
I originally figured my game plan would be play 2.0 on WON until it is taken down. Then play one of my many other games until I feel like breaking down and playing NS. By that time, most of the bugs would have been worked out of steam / whatever version of NS was out. It wouldn't be an exercise in pettyness; just lazyness.
BUT, my friend messaged me, telling me that 3.0 had been out for three days, and I HAD to try combat. Only later did he tell me that he had been playing it on WON, but thanks to my afformentioned lazyness; I already played on steam. There was no point in going back. Steam is good; no better or worse than WON, IMHO, just slightly different. The only problem I've encountered is that servers crash on map change more often (but still, not often enough to make it that bad).

You wanna complain about steam? Fine. 90% of users have NOT had a problem with it. And 90% of the ones that DO have problems with steam (Incompatibility, whatnot) have gone to tech support places that have fixed their problems.
The 10% of that 10%? They're just a bunch of whiney little @sshats that are all safe in the won bubble and don't bother lifting a finger to upgrade their P2 333mhz machines to get a >30 FPS on steam. Maybe if you got a job, you could pay for a new computer. But that'd require WORK, wouldn't it?
I'm going to sit back and laugh when WON finally dies. Why? The majority of users will switch over to steam.. and while us dedicated steam users play away on the hojillions of servers that are switching to steam, they'll be clogging the network, and coming into messageboards saying "OMG U HAD MNTHS TO MAKE IT WRK I THOUT U SAID WHEN WON WENT DOWN IT WULD WORK SUYF NUBS U SUX", all the while making inane animated .gifs and .jpgs with homophobic jokes about "sh!tpowered games" and "Steam )@(#$ing you in the arse" and whatnot.

Something about pointing ASE to the halflife exe, then something else.
NS3 should be playable on normal halflife even if the won system is going to go down. You cant run steam without a net connection still which will stuff people trying to have a game of ns at a lan.
Its taken over 4 months for steam to be stable and to remove most of the problems and bugs it had. But it still hogs system resources which is problem for low end users and people running dedicated servers. This is beyond the NS teams control and there isnt much we can do about it even as a community. If and when ns moves to another engine the NS team will have much more control and freedom in what they want to do and wont have the format of internet play dictated to them by valve.

If you haven't noticed, steam screws over the 56kers with constant and unnecessary downloads for features that most of them don't want or need.
If you haven't noticed, steam is extremely unstable of FAT32 file systems, of which you may not have. On FAT32 you get a host of debugging and crazy scripting errors that happen alot.
If you haven't noticed, valve horribly prepared their servers for the release which caused a lot of people **** of when they recieved incomplete cache files forcing them to start the download all over again, and sometimes even restarting steam.
If you haven't noticed, Steam released two updates during the course of its life (after the beta ended) that caused the game to delete certain components of itself and force people to reinstall steam. Obviously these downloads were recalled immediately, but it still amazes me sometimes.
If you haven't noticed, there are a huge number of smaller errors like the menus becoming all screwed up or your favorite list becomes corrupted. While these are easily fixed, they are also extremely annoying because they seem to occur frequently.
The fact stands for itself, many of the top CS clans have dropped from competetive play knowing that one day won will shut down and playing half-life will no longer be easy or simple. I wouldn't mind if steam was in the beta stages, but they really have no right to say, "Ok, we're releasing STEAM, and we will be shutting down WON <i>soon</i>, so get it installed and operational ASAP."
This has left a sour taste in many a gamers mouth trying to fool around with steam. I had to reinstall STEAM 5 times do to the crappy integrated download system and sucky patches. If valve tries to force a piece of software upon us, they can at least do better than this.
I personal don't think steam is such a horrile thing. Then I have never used it, and plan to continue to do so. The main problem I saw was that originally the vast majority of NS players where on Won. This 3.0 stuff alone may change that. Originally there where quite a few NSP servers and players on Won. Now it is down to three severs, probably with more people overall playing the beta then ever. Now most of those people that are playing the beta on won have a stronger opinion then me about Steam, but it seems to me (and this is mostly just my opinion) that <b>MOST</b> NS players are willing to use Steam.
After a few months of complete obstinance against Steam, necessity of having to try NS 3.0 finally convinced me to give it a go, and perhaps it's not the evil daemon curse I once thought it was.
But the fact still stands, that forcing an internet connection to be present in order to be able to play a game over an offline LAN is ridiculous. Not all countries are as fortunate as the United States to have dirtcheap, fast internet connections that are active 24/7, and some times connecting to the internet in a specific room where you've set up a smallish LAN for the weekend is near impossible.
Also, I've heard many complaints from people at colleges and universities, for whom Steam is unable to connect via the proxies in place. In fact, I myself am one of them. If Steam needs to connect in order to be able to play over a LAN, then playing games will become impossible for those people. But by all means, cut them off, I won't be surprised to be hearing outcries of "minority" over the next few posts.
And I know it's possible to play the current version without Steam, but what about the final 3.0 build? I'm not complaining because I'm too stubborn or lazy to convert to Steam, that's not the issue. The fact is that if I do, once I get back to Uni I'll be unable to play my favourite game over the LAN, and the same is true of many people.
Basically what I'm asking is to not enforce Steam, I for one don't care whether there are no WON servers to play anymore, as my connection was too slow to play online anyway... but don't make the game inaccessible to those over a humble LAN... sure you lose players that you'll never see online, and that might seem alright to most of you, but you're losing players nonetheless.

Might i ask, why have you got 7 CD-Keys. I mean, i doubt you've bought 7 copies of Half-Life, and if you have, you sir are dumb.
That's another thing about Steam. Some people can't get it working, so they try CD-Keys from the net, or "given" by "friends"..... How retarded is this? Not only do they not have a working copy themselves, but by trying to play on stolen CD-Keys they screw somebody else out of playing too! Double-bloody-standards.

The short answer is yes.
All Steam-enabled games require you to be connected to the Internet in order to play.
Note: some Steam-enabled single-player games (such as Half-Life 2) purchased at a retail store will allow offline play until the user decides to play online or enable other Steam functionality. From that point on, an Internet connection will be required.
<u>* UPDATE *</u>
Work on offline/LAN play is now nearing completion. To play any Steam game while not connected to the Internet it will only be necessary to let Steam finish downloading all of that game’s content, at which point you’ll be able to play games without connecting to Steam.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Now i got new comp and steam works well. It has many good features bound together. It's still buggy but bugs can be fixed. So its not an issue. But things i really Hate In Steam: - Its heavy! Weights a ton. I mean hl mods lost half of fps with my last comp. And its not the game itself only. Only running background it takes 25M of memory and slows my computer. Whats the idea of game starter, when it takes as much memory as the game itself ? - Kills modem and isdn users. - You need too much Internet connection to use it. Hopefully its soon fixed as said. This is way to dominate players, imo.
Well, I liked vanilla HL (WON) the best but I hope there would be "Steam Lite" or so.

Show me where it says steam beta? I got news for you, the Steam beta ended months ago. This was the official release, and the expectation was that won would go down a few weeks after. The steam beta has been out longer than the current steam has been, you would think that they could iron out some of these smaller bugs.

The CS community isn't all a bunch of whiny 13 year old noobs as you depict them. In the hardcore competive scene many players are 25+ and are probably more mature then most of the NS communitity. They obviously have a good reason for quitting. I personally believe CPL is going to be hit due to STEAM, but we'll see.
I'd love to see your sources about 99% of steamers not having problems. Really. I would.

HL gen pack comes with the origonal HL... 1 cd key , blueshift , oposing force and a copy of CS 1.5 , all the cd keys provided for these games also have a working online WON, so basicly 4 hl cd keys, or four cd keys that did work pre steam. the rest i have been given by rlf that have quit hl, there just ones i know are 100% legit
But my real suplier of cd keys has to be J- , i really have to hand it to the guy he gave me 600+, witch was nice cos neither of us could afford to go out and buy a copy of the game every time a nuben was given admin to a server, yer they didn't all work with 1 in 7 being vac banned and some just oviously generated, but it sure kept the admins busy. god bless won. No more quick change when a nuben thinks your cheating and perms bans you, have to sighn up all over again new email, steam account , ect ,ect ! hey wait WTH am i talking about i cant even get the freaking thing to work in the 1st place for longer then 5 mins and now not at all.

Steam is not a free community run deal, its part of an offical product that people buy with the intension of playing online.
Even the people at steam have admited that there are issues with steam and the fat32 format and they recomend not to use it.
Being able to run on low end systems is a good thing for a game, it increases the amount of people that can play your game.
56k'er are stuffed with steam.
The best things about the hl engine were that you could run it on any computer no matter how old it was, no matter what net connection you had, no matter what video card you had and the graphics were tolerable.
Now you need a half decent computer to just run steam without it hogging 100% of your cpu after an hour, play other games on the same specs with better graphics and you need broadband and you cant play it on lans.
Lets face it, the only reason why steam is still running is because it had a large established consumer base to start off with. I dont think steam is anything special, i just hope that the next group of people that try to implement a steam-like system learn from some of the early mistakes of steam.
ps: out of all the mods i play on steam, NS is the most stable and quickest of them all, i get better fps and loading times on NS than i do in dod. On the old hl it was the other way around. It probably says more about the dod development team than anything else.

I don't know how many times I've said this... No one cares if you wan't to be a martyr and not switch to steam for inane "ideological" reasons(e.g "WON works why should I switch to a new solution"), you're the only one who is hurt by not even trying.
I have yet to see a "problem" with steam that doesn't have a simple fix at this point, as annoying as getting your problem fixed is (you have to go to the steam powered forums, ask about it, get flamed alot, and then do whatever the 1 or 2 helpful people there tell you to do to fix it), don't act like steam is uncapable of running properly on your computer (unless HL is uncapable of running properly on your computer, then it's just "no duh"); I agree with you that steam has a rediculous amount of things that can go wrong with it, and is far below the standards I would expect from a commercial company like valve, but to stop playing because of it... would you stop driving when your car breaks down? just because something goes wrong, doesn't mean it must be abandoned.
I have seen many 56k's that are reasonably satisfied with steam, although an equal ammount have many complaints. Personally I find it amazing that those archaic modems can run any games online these days, let alone HL on steam. Developers can't be expected to make games compatable to out of date hardware. Any titles that are being released these days that are 56k compatable are the exeption, not the rule. Quake 3 isn't going to run on your comador 64, and if you can play online with your 56k these days, you should consider yourself lucky. It's not any game developer's fault that you haven't upgraded your hardware, it never has been, and it never will be.
OK. Lets begin. I have normal PC (AMD 1700+, 256 DDR) I have 56k modem. I have Half-Life I have TFC I have CS 1.5 I have CS 1.6 I have NS 1.04 I will soon have NS 3.0 But... STEAM I have downloaded the smallest version. After it was installed, i connected to internet. Steam strated to update. Not long (for 56k it was ok, even good speed). My illegal cd key worked with steam perfectly. But. I have no DSL or ADSL, I have 56k!!! Why do I need this stupid updates if I want to play LAN!!! Maybe with bots. Or my house is full of NS players. STEAM at this point DOESN'T LET PEOPLE to play LAN (offline)!!! Yeah! Updates! OK... I have 56k!!! I am not going to download 200-300-400-500-600 MB of Cache using my modem! (est time: 3 month)... YOu say, that use outdated stuff (modem). But. CAN'T YOU USE YOU NEWEST PENTIUM 4 TO PLAY SOME OLD GAMES??? OK. You say--- We have vice versa- old stuff (modem) and new technologies. DON'T PLAY. Answer--- WON and LAN don't need any new tech, they run perfectly even on 56k!!! Why do I need Steam, when i ewen can't download all those huge updates in time!!! STEAM is not bad one. It works ok on my FAT32 WIN98. If i have DSL or faster, I would use Steam anyway! DSL (not so fast, yeah?) downloads these updates faster than old 56k... What do I want???
STEAM IS PREFERRED FOR FAST INTERNET USERS. IT IS FINE. WON IS GOOD FOR MODEM USERS. WHILE WON IS ALIVE IT MUST BE SUPPORTED. LAN MUST BE USED WITHOUT STEAM!!! STEAM MUST BECOME MORE FLEXIBLE... IT WILL... VALVE SAYS... OK... JUST MAKE NS 3.0 AND LATER VERSIONS "WON" AND "NOSTEAM LAN" COMPATIBLE!!! WHILE WON IS ALIVE PEOPLE WILL USE IT. AND LAN WITHOUT STEAM IS ESSENTIAL.
THANK YOU. PLEASE TRY TO UNDERSTAND ME. MAYBE I WILL PURCHASE FASTER INTERNET, BUT MANY PEOPLE OFFLINE WON'T PLAY NS LAN IF STEAM WILL BE R-E-Q-U-I-R-E-D...
P.S. Natural Selection MUST WORK WITHOUT STEAM TOO... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> And little note: I live in Georgia, (country, bordering Russia on north and Armenia on south CAUCASUS), capital city Tbilisi. We have quite difficult life. If you can use DSL (30$ in our city), I can't... My mother (i have no father) gets only 10$ per DAY on her work. And we live quite well (mid-class in our country)... 10$ per day... Only food and some clothes. DO YOU IMAGINE??? Thats why I have modem, thats why I can't (at this time) use fast internet, thats why I can't use STEAM normally>>>
BUT I LOVE NATURAL SELECTION, I AM MAD OF IT AND I CANT LIVE WIHTOUT IT..
I must add, that the only way to play NS for our crew is to play in via LAN. And what if steam will be required? And steam wants online to be turned on... VALVE is going to fix it, but anyway... I have CS 1.6 which is NOSTEAM. We have 6 servers in georgia, which use nosteam CS 1.6 It is very good. Can ns be used/cracked to work without steam...<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

And i know about reality i'v been working since i was 14 and i got a kid and a sick mom to support so where do you get off putting me down because i have a slow computer?
It should be noted that if you can play CS 1.6 without steam, there is little/no reason to use steam... except for the fact that so many people are using it.
The first time I talked about Steam with people in person, they praised it, appearantly for reasons beyond my comprehension. When I found out a large number of people where using steam I tried to figure out why, and the best I could come with is CS 1.6, and the Phantom advantages.
Yes, that is right, People who use Steam use it mainly because they think it is easier. Maybe it is for them, but trading a fictional "Inconvenience", or the need for brain power, with a long download doesn't make something easier for me. This is my point: The <u>ONLY</u> reason <u>so many</u> people use Steam <u>at this point</u> is Steam appeals to the ignorance/sloth of Half-Life players.
Please do not mis-interpet what I am saying, remeber that this much is for certain: there is no reason (if you say the desire to "help" valve or something like that you are lying) for any one (except maybe people that want to play CS 1.6) to use Steam before Won goes down; my opinion is why I believe most of the people who do use Steam are using Steam is because they don't know any better.
OK now will everyone please calm down and chill. However you look at this it's not the end of the world ok? Yes I am annoyed that Steam kills my poor little 56k connection to hell but there's nothing I can do about it so I'm just gona stay playing on the few WON servers that are left till it shuts down then I'm gona have to go back to playing Renegade or Generals I guess <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> I really wish that Valve would do something about the Latency issues in Steam but I really doupt they give a damn about 56k'ers which is a shame really.

Comments
I did just that earlier in the week to play the new NS beta.
Steam is, IMO, buggy, slow, bloated, and virtually unusable. Some Steam driven mods swelled to almost double their original size for no reason.
My pings shot right up, my framerates dropped ALARMINGLY (to a slideshow at times), and starting a game under Steam was JUST TOO LONG-WINDED.
...I build PCs fairly regularly, so I tend to know when something is right or not :-}
Some simple things in the Steam installer should have been resolved (like keeping existing screen settings) and it telling me the halflife font can`t be found.
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm really sure by your email and your boycott, the guys over at VALVe will be forced to pull out their wads of 100's out of their bloated wallets just to wipe the single, solitary tear away.

I would suggest asking that in an ASE forum, or a steam tech support forum.
Something about pointing ASE to the halflife exe, then something else.

Honestly.

How about you get some proof before you start spewing percentages and numbers?
Thank you. =P

my issue with shitpowered games is that i cant play them,
i dont hate steam ... just 4 diffrent emails, accounts, passwords, and most off all 7 CD KEYS, later the **** thing's still telling me to buy another copy of HL,
because, and if it could give an accurate anser it would be...

Hey guess what? I've had as many Steam problems as everyone has. That includes my cd-key already being used, the cache files being messed up, Steam screwing over both my Steam AND WON installs, Steam crashing on boot, Steam crashing on map change, Steam crashing when i do damn near everything......
As for people leaving... Who cares, seriously. I can understand for 56k'ers, it's not fair on them, and that's one thing about Steam that i will always oppose, but all those people that can't get it working and feel the need to whine about it every 10 **** seconds... who's going to miss them? I certainly won't, hell, the place will be a damn lot quieter without those whiney ****.
Also guess what? I'm still using it. WON <b>is</b> going to die, and i'd rather have Steam up and running now <i>before</i> WON goes down, so when the time comes and WON is shut down, i'm not stuck crying about it, i'm playing my favourite freakin' games online.
Also, try not to avoid the swear filter, it's there for a reason.
Which is why VALVe is working towards a fix for this:

Do I have to be connected to the Internet when I play Steam games?

- Its heavy!
Well, I liked vanilla HL (WON) the best but I hope there would be "Steam Lite" or so.
bah don't do that Flayra it will jsut split the community and cause more problems <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--><!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
like it or not the community is already split, there is no reason to not try to ease the slower part of the community into STEAM if it is practical, at some point they will have to switch or stop playing either way, so at that point, if they cant keep up, then that's just thier problem.

People that have NS won cant play on steam and vice versa.

to stop playing because you don't like steam, a replacement for won that is almost at the same level, is just petty. If you want to be petty, why should it be up to the rest of the comunity to stop you? at some point won is going away, whether you like it or not. You are perfectly capable of continuing to play, you are simply refusing to because you don't want too. Developers don't make games for people who don't want to play them, they make games for people who do want to play them.

My computer CAN"T RUN STEAM. I'm lucky it runs NS on Won never mind the 1gig needed to run steam(it says 1gig cpu needed in its readme file). One of the reasons half life mods are great is because you can have a rock for a computer(like mine) and they still run. Why make a program that only shows you severs and needs a more powerful computer then the game it self! When i think of steam i think of the old saying "if it aint broke don't fix it". WON worked fine. Steam is and will not be needed for HL1 based games.
and if you think even further in the future....if you cant cope with steam.... it means you wont be able to play natural selection.... half life 2..... counterstrike 2 (of course it might not be named this way) and a possible future version of natural selection on the half life 2 engine.....
now think......just because of petty hate.....you will miss out on some of the best games out there.... is it worth it?
oh and for those ppl without 1 ghz computer..... man you ppl call yourselves gamers? yes money is an issue but 1 ghz comps cost like.... what... 200-300 bux now? skip a few lunches and save up if you want to play your fav games.....

If you haven't noticed, steam screws over the 56kers with constant and unnecessary downloads for features that most of them don't want or need.
<b>Yeah. There's this wonderful option under every single singleplayer and "supported" mod in the games menu.. You can turn off automatic updating. More "I can whine because I'm too lazy to find an exceedingly simple fix" crap.</b>
If you haven't noticed, steam is extremely unstable of FAT32 file systems, of which you may not have. On FAT32 you get a host of debugging and crazy scripting errors that happen alot.
<b>Odd. I run steam off a FAT32 drive, and have had no problems whatsoever.</b>
If you haven't noticed, valve horribly prepared their servers for the release which caused a lot of people **** of when they recieved incomplete cache files forcing them to start the download all over again, and sometimes even restarting steam.
<b>Yeah, 300,000 users or some crap.. all updating steam at the very same time. You can whine about it all you want, but there IS finite bandwith availible. No amount of complaining will change that. Go and download steam now, before the "rush" when WON dies, and I garuntee you won't have a problem in this regard.</b>
If you haven't noticed, Steam released two updates during the course of its life (after the beta ended) that caused the game to delete certain components of itself and force people to reinstall steam. Obviously these downloads were recalled immediately, but it still amazes me sometimes.
<b>Again, let's see you code, debug, and release a FREE product to 300,000+ users, and have it not wang itself.</b>
If you haven't noticed, there are a huge number of smaller errors like the menus becoming all screwed up or your favorite list becomes corrupted. While these are easily fixed, they are also extremely annoying because they seem to occur frequently.
<b>And the reason why it still says Steam Beta is...?</b>
The fact stands for itself, many of the top CS clans have dropped from competetive play knowing that one day won will shut down and playing half-life will no longer be easy or simple. I wouldn't mind if steam was in the beta stages, but they really have no right to say, "Ok, we're releasing STEAM, and we will be shutting down WON soon, so get it installed and operational ASAP."
This has left a sour taste in many a gamers mouth trying to fool around with steam. I had to reinstall STEAM 5 times do to the crappy integrated download system and sucky patches. If valve tries to force a piece of software upon us, they can at least do better than this.
<b>If a "top CS clan" drops out of competitive play because they're afraid of the big bad boogyman steam, then whatever. Maybe they'll actually go outside and see sunlight for once. For every person who has said "OMG i had 2 install stem 2092309235 times nd then it didnt work OMG this sux", there's about 100 others who have had no problems whatsoever.</b>
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Unfortunately with 56k you get extremely slow download speeds if you try to download a mod from the integrated download system, which in turn leads to corrupted downloads and having to reinstall steam. The ironic thing is people download steam with inclueded cache files from the internet so they don't have to deal with corrupted games.
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Odd. Lucky you. I also run a FAT32 file system, and a bunch of my friends do to. I and them have beaten our heads against the wall due to the constant crashing whenever you click a button or try to execute a command.
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Yeah, 300,000 users or some crap.. all updating steam at the very same time. Hopefully such an esteemed gaming company like valve would be able to somewhat accurately estimate the amount of bandwidth used. I'm sure they didn't expect a few thousand people to have to reinstall steam multiple times because of hosting problems.
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Again, let's see you code, debug, and release a FREE product to 300,000+ users, and have it not wang itself.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Sorry, this response doesn't work after you graduate from grade school. Telling somebody to code a better program is like telling somebody who complains a space shuttle crashing to build a better rocket. In the future you might want to consider other methods of arguing besides "Oh, well you couldn't do better..."
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->And the reason why it still says Steam Beta is...?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

1 cd key , blueshift , oposing force and a copy of CS 1.5 , all the cd keys provided for these games also have a working online WON, so basicly 4 hl cd keys, or four cd keys that did work pre steam.
the rest i have been given by rlf that have quit hl,
there just ones i know are 100% legit
But my real suplier of cd keys has to be J- , i really have to hand it to the guy he gave me 600+, witch was nice cos neither of us could afford to go out and buy a copy of the game every time a nuben was given admin to a server, yer they didn't all work with 1 in 7 being vac banned and some just oviously generated, but it sure kept the admins busy. god bless won. No more quick change when a nuben thinks your cheating and perms bans you, have to sighn up all over again new email, steam account , ect ,ect ! hey wait WTH am i talking about i cant even get the freaking thing to work in the 1st place for longer then 5 mins and now not at all.
off topic a bit but he did ask ...<!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
In a way. Hit boxes are no longer b0rked so onos die almost too easily even at 700 HP 600 AP in normal mode.
I have normal PC (AMD 1700+, 256 DDR)
I have 56k modem.
I have Half-Life
I have TFC
I have CS 1.5
I have CS 1.6
I have NS 1.04
I will soon have NS 3.0
But... STEAM
I have downloaded the smallest version.

Why should I have to pay more money just to play a game i paid for YEARS AGO. They have no right to take away my RIGHT to play just because i don't have money to buy a new computer.
And i'm not going to shell out the 200-300 bucks to buy a computer "just" good enuf to play steam. If i'm going to buy a computer i'm not going to buy one that is already out of date. So your looking more like 2,000-3,000 bucks. Thats a hell of alot of missed meals buddy.
And i know about reality i'v been working since i was 14 and i got a kid and a sick mom to support so where do you get off putting me down because i have a slow computer?
