oh yeah
*Gets into his mech, begins system check, he gets a green light. He begins moving towards the Gathering court where he sees everyone. He waits anxiously*

"Never liked this tech thing taking over my body. Fighting is still in our hand, mech is a tool. But dammit, those mechs seem to have been designed for people who WANT to have their spine penetrated by a freaking needle. No way, I don't trust the tech that far. But the controls in this thing is lacking, too few options. Well, I'll have to live with that for now".

Don't think ill go for something poking into my spinal cord, thats just strange.

Gathering courts are empty, the seats are only quarter full. At the stand the instructor waits for you to exit your mechs.
*He shuts off his mech and opens the hatch and waits for a ldder to approach him before sliding down and standing next to his mech at attention.*

Ok, better
*Wakes up from his nap*
"Hey, wait for me!"
*Gets on his uniform and walks to mech hangar*
"Ok, lock 'n' load"

"Your choice Xect, but I love the situational awareness the DNI implant gives... No more peering through periscopes searching for the enemy for me!"
*Parks to the right of Spark and jacks out. The back-up screens are the only illumination.*
"I must admit that I seriously dislike the thought of a needle going into my spine. No surge protectors on that thing!"
*I unstrap myself from the body frame and climb down the ladder placed on my mech.
I join Spark standing at attention by my mech*

*"me, i like the Neural interface, gives me much more manoverability with my mech. but the needle i dont like. But u gotta lose summit to gain summit." Gets out of mech and jumps down to the Courts. Stands and waits.

"Well, it is microscopic the needle. I don't feel it. It's also quite good, cause then I don't need to rely on the controls so much"
*The head of the mech looks up and gets out of it's crouching position.*
"Let's see what this can do?"
*The legs move slowly, and suddenly, he sprints towards the court*
"This is great!"

"Yeah, I don't like the thought of sticking needles into my spine either. Feels so wrong. That's why I hacked up this Superimposed Reality control rig. Combat view's almost as good as direct neural. Kinda hurts my eyes though, having images beamed directly to em. I can even set multiple targets using eyeball trackers in my helmet."

*He disconnects helmet from the controls and sets walker to low power mode. Unsealing the hatch, JL feels the rush of the warm desert air into his cockpit. Climbing out of the cockpit, JL descends from his walker using the recessed ladder on the mech. He stands beside his mech in attention. JL looks towards the hangar, waiting for the last few pilots to arrive.*

"Man, they better get here soon, the heat's killing me.

Nuub, while we wait for the new board skin, you could always go here and pick a different colour.

"Situational awareness isn't much reduced with a holographic screen. Remember, if you're in a situation where you desperately need information, you've already lost the battle, because chance is that you enemy HAS his information if you lack it. I'll go with a holo-screen, except the ones they installed here aren't too good. Seems like they expected everyone to go for neural interfacing."

"I just love the total immersion. Wonder if it'll affect my accuracy at all, as I can almost feel the wind direction...

And, hey the neural implant isn't just useful for piloting. It opens up a whole new world of VR and gaming possiblities. Got to make the most of an expensive bit of kit."

"Ehh... a computer AI construct would work pretty well with my SR rig, seeing as how it's computer driven... but I'd really rather not, you might end up with something like Clippy"

*in an overly cheerful voice* "'Hi! It looks like you're shooting a big **** gun! Would you like me to..."

"Ah, you get the idea."

*JL get's impatient and relaxes from attention, and starts kicking dirt around while waiting for the rest of the squad*

"i see your point. If you made it dumb, and it could only say a couple of phrases then it would be ok. If you were like me, and you get fixated on the Screen and not your radar, it would be handy saying "Enemy 150 metres behind".*

"That would be an automated warning system, not a consciousness. I like them, but I prefer a voiceless information transfer system, that just transfers certain sound signals to the cockpit according to the surroundings. You know, if someone is behind you the mech plays a sound behind you, informing you without requiring your attention. Believe me, it saves your life from time to time."
