No, I'm just wondering where the polys went. Burn's looks better and is half the poly count. Granted, he cheats in some areas, but for the most part it's fine.

I've made this too. It's my first model so it may not be as good as that one. I tried skinning it with the photo. It came out all blurry but it's okay for a first try.

Looking good, handle doesn't "mesh" though...
  • CaptainChetCaptainChet Join Date: 2003-04-21 Member: 15737Members, Constellation
i didnt spend too much time with it because its covered up by the hands at almost all times. shouldnt be much of a problem.
  • BijiyBijiy Fantastic Damage Join Date: 2003-11-28 Member: 23697Members
Yeah, I meant it looks a bit "fat" compared to the rest of the frame.
  • CaptainChetCaptainChet Join Date: 2003-04-21 Member: 15737Members, Constellation
Hmmm, i might remake it. looks kinda sorta crappy-ish.

from HL2 and on, models will be made by creating a low poly version and a super high poly version with as many triangles and textures at whatever resolution you want. a converter will transfer all the texturing and normals to the low poly version. painting textures to look like pieces of photos will be completely wrong.

I broke down and decided to make it for NS. I tried compiling, and it gave me the 'too many vertices' error. Any solutions?

ok, i got the polycount down. Way down with no visible diffs. Its 2832 polies now w00t !
However, i had some probs with the finished product. I can release the mdl if anyone wants to tinker.

    Ever fix that?
  • CoolCookieCooksCoolCookieCooks Pretty Girl Join Date: 2003-05-18 Member: 16446Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor, Constellation
    i have the solution for it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

make it into 2 smds, each smd can handle like, 2500 polys each or so, so split it into two and compile both of them together

hey uh does anyone know the link too that HL2 mod?
  • CaptainChetCaptainChet Join Date: 2003-04-21 Member: 15737Members, Constellation
Dont worry, i skinmesh my own stuff. Also, yes, the gun is fine in ns, except for this hole the stupid optimize modifier made *shakes fist*. Ill have it fixed in no time. However, for the laser, i need the dod transparency dlls. However, i think the link is down, so does anyone have em?
  • CaptainChetCaptainChet Join Date: 2003-04-21 Member: 15737Members, Constellation
