Flay, i think the reason for this is that we've been hearing so much about marine teamwork, marine teamwork, marine teamwork, that we've been thinking of the marines as a salvation from the mass of crappy team DM mods.
I, personally, am looking forward to playing the aliens.
I mean, what could be more fun than simply watching an entire team scatter under the shadow of an Onos?
I think the biggest reason though, is that most of the PT stories (that I've read, at least) have been the marines, clinging to life, very rarely do we ever have an intense explanation of what it's like slinking around in the corners, suddenly striking from the dark, claws tearing into human flesh, and decimating an intire squad of heavily armed being twice your size...
I guess what I'm trying to say is, more info never hurt anyone <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
Well, we DO know more about the Marines actually...
Not to mention I think the main draw of NS is the teamplay factor, something the Marines are revolved around. And I believe you yourself Flayra said that the Aliens are leaned towards more personal motives (Akka DeathMatchers).
It's only 'Natural' (*Rimshot*) that people would want to be Marines so they can play as a team.
However, I think Humbaba is partially responsible for people leaning toward Marines. His storys are so vivid and epic, while most Alien storys (<u>MOST</u>) are'nt as epic as I would hope.
But all will be revealed when NS is released next year! =D
The only reason i prefer marines is because haveing a commander or being commander sounds awesome. I think many other people are choosing marines because it is what we identify with. When we saw the movie aliens, most likely, none of us were thinking 'GO aliens!!!! kill them all'. We were thinking 'Go Marines!!!' Its just much easier for a human to slip into the role of a marine then a foriegn life form. Plus who doesn't want to save the world from the evil aliens... But, you have to realize the people the aliens are designed for aren't the type of people that follow a mod boasting of excellent teamwork prerelease. I think we'll see more of the death match alien players show up post release, after they see how cool the mod is.

Trust me, once the mod is released, a lot of people will play the marines a lot, then say "Hey.... I oughta try the aliens."
And then they'll fall in love with aliens...
(Note: Surge is trying to say "Don't tweak the aliens a super bunch right now. We want 'teh' release.")
Some more alien info would not hurt. Especially for me. I need to know (in WorldCraft/Hammer units) how far can you be before the hive/defence chambers heal you for my mulch_dm style map. Right now I just have to so you just teleport into the arena by going though a certain door. If I knew the distance of how far away you can be before you get healed will help me make the map smaller and lesser in size.
One more thing, I put a func_nobuild in my map but I can't walk though it. Is this normal or do I have to fix something?
One MORE thing, I never knew that there were that many active members on the boards. <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->
EDIT: A nice LMG style attack for the aliens would be kinda good but I would rather wait for that in V2.
I like the marines better. It refreshes me when I see an alin die, and I watch it die slowly...and then, I turn around, and then I shoot a level 5!! <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo--> Abviously, I play as the marines. Well I want to play as aliens mostly but I don't want to revive my dead topic on mulch_dm maps in the ideas forum nor do I want to search for the func_nobuild problem or create a topic for people to post in to help me. So people can post their opions (sp?) and possible explaintions to me <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

Marines are typical of every other mod's type of charecters. Take DoD (which I love btw), you play humans with guns. You get no special cool abilities, and you shoot other humans with guns. It's fun and all, but it's nothing new. Same with CS, AHL, FA, TFC, and many other FPS games.
The chance to play a wall climbing alien in an Aliens-type envinronment hunting down humans with guns, now that's a spicy meatball. I can't see myself playing marines very often. To each his own, and mine is aliens.
Honestly, I cannot say what team I like to play most. I won't be able to pass judgment until I've played them both. I tell you, it's something that I look forward to very, very much!
Lets see the aliens have to get up close and personal to kill me right? Well I say let them get up close and personal, then i take out my shotgun and blow them back several meters away. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

I want to play as the aliens cause the smaller ones seem to have a stealth advantage to them and using stealth is very cool. Just like the the Thief games. Unless there was some type of stealth marine that would be the best <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

I personally find the marines to be more appealing than the aliens... Sure, there will be some days when I'll want the pure pwnage of an alien, but I find the more realistic, linear system of the marines more appealing.

being a marine and following orders and working as a team shooting down aliens and being surrounded/ running away from lvl 5s... u just cant miss it.. w00t go marines!
Marines. Been a long time since I was scared by a game. (Last time was in RTCW, high FPS, crypt level. The high FPS was what scared me. Did the gremlins get scared off by.. something ... else?? )
I voted Aliens, because experience taught me that random public teams don't cooperate well. NS has yet to prove that it will be different than all the other team games destroyed by clueless idiots.
I voted Marines, because I think there is a higher chance of teamwork and cooperation there. I have a feeling people playing aliens will experience a "Power rush" and then ignore their teammates. Marines may end up with more regular, dedicated, and cooperative players.
But if it turned out Aliens had more cooperative play, I'd end up there more, of course. =)
soldier klauskalle is ready for orders! i will play both, but mostly marine. aliens only when i want some frags fast. i mean i played gloom and avp2 and i ruled as alien. but i think everyone wants some big weapons in his hand, right? such as a rocket-launcher in gloom, damn it rocked, and still kicks #####!

The problem here is that aliens are a bit unknown by the community, they just know that the marines got a lot of guns, the heavy armor, and a commander..... And they know that the aliens climb walls and fly..... Nothing more <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo--> you should do another poll after 1 week of releasing ns so people can try both sides, and then pick.

Bah, you've got me there, Flayra, that's actually a difficult choice, both sides are so mindblowingly stratospherically cool. But in the end I chose the Aliens due to wallclimbing, flying, blinking and charging pwnage.
