OMG a red x picture thingamabob!... no quicktime <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
The iPod has a non-replaceable battery which only lasts approximately 18 months. Buying a new iPod or sending it back to Apple to replace the battery for the cost of a new iPod are your only options then. The movie basically consists of this guy walking around spraypainting this fact with a stencil on ads for the iPod.
I think I'm going on a little paint trip... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
I'm glad we have a two year mandatory warranty in this country. If the battery dies after 18 months, the manufacturer is expected to replace it at a fair price. That price is ridiculous.
Since we're talking about bashing Mac here, <a href='http://www.happynowhere.net/mac_parody.htm' target='_blank'>here</a> is a great parody (which I'm sure most of you already know, but just to let others know). <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

So... whats so wrong with this? They probably went with a cheaper (read: less life expectancy) battery to keep costs down (though they probably make quite a bit from selling replacements).

I don't care what product it is or who makes it, but when it costs $400 it damn well better be of considerable quality. Would you buy a new ATI/Nvidia card for $400 if it was pretty much designed to require $300 worth of repairs every year?
This is almost as bad as the printer ink business.

This is a pretty raw deal when you consider the di-lithium batteries used in most electronics. Cell phones, laptops, and the like are rechargable for years. Why Mac didn't go with something like that seems odd.

Um, I think we have a pretty good reason for not liking Macs in this particular instance. The reason would seem to be rather clear, in fact it's the point of this whole thread.
I can't imagine why Apple would do something like that. It's unbelieveably stupid. Do they seriously think people will just keep on buying a hideously expensive Ipod each time the previous one expires? I think not!

I never really saw why you waould want an Ipod in the first place, I mean if you looked in the right places you could buy (for the same amount of money) two nomad Jukeboxes with the same hard drive size instead of just one ipod, I just never really got why you'd wanna shell out all that money.

I can imagine the meeting where they dreamt that up;
"Now then gentlemen, what can we do to really p*** our customers off?"
"Well how about we make them pay AGAIN after they've had their computer a year and a half?"
"Brilliant! Not even Microsoft are that evil!"
EDIT: Typo.
Down with Microsoft!
Hurray to Linux!
