I have a Kazoo (or something like that) MP3 player...few slight problems:
The LCD is smashed, so I get to memorize (and re-memorize) my playlist. It takes 2 AAA batteries, which last 4-10 hours The program for putting music on it is only on the computer at home (because I lost the disc that lets it use MMJB) It cost 50 dollars, and holds about 12 songs by itself, 30 with my memory card.
My beat up Kazoo owns any new iPod <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> .

actualy did back ground checking.
Here is the deal
It ussed to be that stupid price UNTILL THIS MONTH.
Then they started offering these new batteries for the older models they are $99 to have them replace it for you or like $50 or under to get the self install kit (the self install seems simple as pai, then again people pay $30+ to have Ram instaled in their computers... suckers <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

Sure, ipodbattery does allow you to change the battery, but come on. 350 bucks and unable to change the battery easily? Not to mention ipodbattery isn't created by Apple. Apple would want you to send it back to get more $$.
Not to mention that 18 months IS VERY SHORT no matter the ability to change it or not, especially if you look at other products of the same category such as the creative nomads.

My problem with apple is that you have little to no competition occurring for 90% of the parts/OS components that they work on.
No competition = bad.
You get unhappy people like <a href='http://contheory.com/flash/mac.swf' target='_blank'>this guy</a> and *almost* everyone I talk to IRL that owns a mac.
So in general, apple = bad , simply by poor practices. This is the same reason why compaq is bad, and microsoft to a degree.
So meh, even if you don't like my opinion, you still have to laugh at the video <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

ah, pitty is microsoft has so many resources that any new operating system that is even a tiny bit competitive with windows will be FUDed to death. why'd you think all the crap about linux is happening? microsoft don't want to budge market share to them. and the last RISCos or apple 'clone' was sued to death by apple. unfortuantly this is the way things are going to happen for at least a while.
althogh, tbh, i like the look of <a href='http://www.skyos.org' target='_blank'>SkyOS</a> once they've completed their new UI, i'd be very pleasent to use in my opinion.

there is going to be a 2 year race between alternate OSes before longhorn is out to deliver something competitive, who knows what can happen in 2 years, ALOT happens in a few months, so 2 years will be very.. very intresting...

anyway, back onto subject... personally i don't think the iPod matches my 'style' anyway, the plain white of the front is a turn off somehow.
I dont really know why people buy iPods...Sure they are pretty but they been selling these for over a year and they still are 400$
I use a Archos Jukebox Multimedia...Its the greatest thing ever under 350$

Whats good about this is that Archos is always adding Firmware, where they can add new things or fix bugs unlike recalling the whole product or making a new verison.
