I have a Kazoo (or something like that) MP3 player...few slight problems:

The LCD is smashed, so I get to memorize (and re-memorize) my playlist.
It takes 2 AAA batteries, which last 4-10 hours
The program for putting music on it is only on the computer at home (because I lost the disc that lets it use MMJB)
It cost 50 dollars, and holds about 12 songs by itself, 30 with my memory card.

My beat up Kazoo owns any new iPod .

I can see a reason to not like Apple or the iPod. But what does this story have to do with Mac? The OS is guilty by association?

As I mentioned before, Apple is replacing the batteries in these units for $99. weeeeeeee

actualy did back ground checking.

Here is the deal

It ussed to be that stupid price UNTILL THIS MONTH.

Then they started offering these new batteries for the older models
they are $99 to have them replace it for you or like $50 or under to get the self install kit (the self install seems simple as pai, then again people pay $30+ to have Ram instaled in their computers... suckers )

Also, I am willing to bet that the newer models have a longer battery life (either that or Mac already has a working polan for what to do when the batteries start dieng. I think they basicaly just got caught with their pants down )

In my opinion if youre gonna charge 300 for a device like that, you shouldnt HAVE to pay an extra 99 if you want to continue using it. And by my guesses in another 12-18 months that battery they replaced yours with will die and you will have to pay another 99 dollars. GG. Dude its not a matter of Mac or crap, why people are saying it is, theyre stupid. Its a matter of poor business ethics.

Sure, ipodbattery does allow you to change the battery, but come on. 350 bucks and unable to change the battery easily? Not to mention ipodbattery isn't created by Apple. Apple would want you to send it back to get more $$.

Not to mention that 18 months IS VERY SHORT no matter the ability to change it or not, especially if you look at other products of the same category such as the creative nomads.

I agree. I was just ticked off that so many people were all like "Woohoo! dirt on the Mac lovers!" and bitching about having to replace it for the cost of a new iPod even after I already pointed out that you didn't.

My problem with apple is that you have little to no competition occurring for 90% of the parts/OS components that they work on.

No competition = bad.

You get unhappy people like this guy and *almost* everyone I talk to IRL that owns a mac.

So in general, apple = bad , simply by poor practices. This is the same reason why compaq is bad, and microsoft to a degree.

So meh, even if you don't like my opinion, you still have to laugh at the video

I hate mircrsoft. I hate apple. I hate linux. All the OS options right now I dont like. Someone should make a really good OS and everyone would buy it.

P.S I hate linux the least

I recently discovered RoxOS, which will, when finished, take care of most of my concerns regarding the non-graphical portions of *nix OSs. Its based on the awesome Rox-Filer and RiscOS related concepts.

ah, pitty is microsoft has so many resources that any new operating system that is even a tiny bit competitive with windows will be FUDed to death. why'd you think all the crap about linux is happening? microsoft don't want to budge market share to them. and the last RISCos or apple 'clone' was sued to death by apple. unfortuantly this is the way things are going to happen for at least a while.

althogh, tbh, i like the look of SkyOS once they've completed their new UI, i'd be very pleasent to use in my opinion.

problem with linux there is very little orginality in most of their projects, theres 3 ways of working in linux it seems... port, clone, or improve. *shrug*

there is going to be a 2 year race between alternate OSes before longhorn is out to deliver something competitive, who knows what can happen in 2 years, ALOT happens in a few months, so 2 years will be very.. very intresting...

</rant>

...

anyway, back onto subject... personally i don't think the iPod matches my 'style' anyway, the plain white of the front is a turn off somehow.

yeah, replacement costs are pretty rank...

I dont really know why people buy iPods...Sure they are pretty but they been selling these for over a year and they still are 400$

I use a Archos Jukebox Multimedia...Its the greatest thing ever under 350$

It does:
-20 GB - External Hardrive/20 GB of songs(can do both)
-1.5" LCD Color Screen
-6-8 Hours of battery life - (6 Hr if your gonna watch movies and 8 hours if your gonna listen to music)
-Download Movies and play them on your MP3 Player
-View Pictures - Have a digital photo album
-Listen to a ton of music
-Record Sound
-View Pictures or Movies on any TV with the Video, Audio outputs(yellow, red cables)

Can Do:
with the Camera Add-on:
-Take 3 Megapixel Digital images
-Take Video with sound(no limit because it uses the HD)

with the TV Recorder Add-on:
-Hook your MP3 Player to any TV with a video , audio output and record your favorite shows or movies and replay them on your MP3 player!

with the Memory cards Add-on:(FREE)
-Going on a road trip? Got a digital camera with a Smart Media or Compact Flash card..is it getting full? Then hook this Add-on and put your memory card in there and transfer all your pictures/movies to a 20 GB hardrive and then you can erase all the pictures on your memory card and take more pics. Then review them at home when you connect your player with a USB/Firewall port.

with the FM Radio Add-on:
-Simply turn your MP3 Player into a walkman

I've had my Jukebox for over a year and the battery hasnt gone out since(BTW the battery isnt internal but it is designed for this model) since then they had made 1 more model(which is improved a bit), There is 1 problem with this, The paint on the back scratches off if you handle it bad - always keep it in the provided soft case.

Whats good about this is that Archos is always adding Firmware, where they can add new things or fix bugs unlike recalling the whole product or making a new verison.

escuse me.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHLOLZ

ok, while we're on the subject of batteries. why is it that 12 AAA rayovacs cost less than 8 AAA duracell/pinkbunnies? and they last longer too? and they pump so much juice through whatever you put them in that you can hear two tiny 1.5V total earbud speakers across a medium-large classroom .... did i mention the're cheaper/better?
