<div class="IPBDescription">NS Nation Invasion</div> Okies, I mentioned this in IRC to one or two people but I suppose I should stick it in here...
Asheron's Call 2 has a 15 day trial; the only thing it uses for this trial is a hotmail account, no credit card details are used and if you don't supply payment details once 15 days is over it just stops you playing with the account, no loss, no worries, no problems <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I've already tried it once and used a seperate hotmail account to do the trial again (just to check it works so I can join in on this idea) but basically, while it's planned to be a one-off you can do it as many times afterwards as you want (and the scary thing is, MS even kinda suggests at this saying you should bring some friends along while you're doing it... good stratedgy to get people hooked I guess =P )
The idea is: We all start a 15 day trial account at the same time and have a giggle together =D
a few things to note about AC2: there's 3 races and each starts at a different town, outside of that people should end up pretty much starting in the same place as each other (thought it might've changed since I last played for all I know). Basically it shouldn't be too hard to find each other regardless ~nods~
If enough interest in the idea picks up I'll start a list of people's AC2 names and put up stuff like the download address and some guides maybe so we can contact each other once we all start, start at the same time and have a rough clue what to do; the general idea is just to make sure we know what's gonna happen and how to catch everybody before the big event.
If you've never tried an MMORPG before then this is probably your best shot; there's no money needed, no credit details and if it goes well then there'll be a lot of people you already know in the game universe starting up along with you ^^
Well... what do you guys think? It can't hurt right? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
<b>edit 1:</b> The only things you need is a hotmail account; no personal details or anything are asked for... because it's MS run, they just ask you to login with a hotmail account =3
Actually for the heck of it I'll include the download link now: <a href='http://www.microsoft.com/games/ac2/freetrial.asp' target='_blank'>rowr!</a>
the download is 900MB so anyone willing to give this a shot might as well start now =s
Install it and stuff if you want but to ensure it goes to plan try not to actually run and register it until everyone's ready: that way we can all jump on at the same time and have a nice big 15 day takeover on AC2 ^^
Only question really is... who's interested and should it be the EU or US servers? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
<b>edit 2:</b> Right!!! Time to get organised! If you're joing I just need to do the below, step 2 is pretty much optional but if you don't follow step 1 I probably won't know you're coming and be miffed with you when you turn up on my doorstep like a lost kitten <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
1) could you guys either email or PM me with the following stuff....
<b>a)</b> US or EU server preference (ie: I want US or I want EU)
<b>b)</b> Have you got it downloaded yet? If you have...
<b>c)</b> Have you registered and if so...
- 1) <i>is that the account you're joining in this little thing with? And if it is...</i>
- 2) <i>how many days do you have left?</i>
<b>d)</b> What days are good to start on (if you haven't already)
If you've decided you're 100% sure you're going to play a certain race that'd be kinda handy to know as well I guess, though it's possible when you try and make a char you may change your mind because you don't like any of the faces or skin colour or whatever, so it's not important really =3
I assume if I get a message that you're 100% in and if I don't get your message by the end of the day I assume you're definitely not coming.
If you're not sure and want to know more just either post here or bug me about it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Remember, if you've not played an MMORPG before this is probably your best chance at giving it a go; even if you don't think they'll be your thing it's free and it'll be with several other people you already know so why not consider it at least? ^^
2) Uh... once I've got dressed and had breakfast and stuff I'll probably wander over to the #naturalselection IRC room... While PMing/Emailing me the above details are good it'll help us work out the finer details and it means we can kinda chat about it and stuff.
I still wouldn't say no to any volunteers who are going tumerok or lugian to help out guiding whoever starts as those to the meeting place (which I'll go on to AC2 and work out based on what can be reached equally easy by all 3 races <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ).
A few things we'll probably have to consider is how we're gonna play the game: Caravan style (where we trek about as a giant group or 2) or free-style (more freedom to do what you want but more hastle for me and less people to help you when a particularly nasty monster you bump into in a field decides it wants to use your leg as a toothpick XD ). Bleh, we can chat about them on IRC anyways, or if you have any particular questions and you're too lazy to hit the NS chatroom (shame on you!) just PM me and I'll answer as best I can.

I didn't really get bored of it, I just lost all hope for it after reading the official forums and seeing what was in store for me at the higher levels... that and towards the end I was starting to feel the first pinches of what they were talking about.
It's just to have a giggle with everyone off the forums though... shame you can't craft instruments other than ones useable as magic weapons =P

My MMORPG virginity! Oh noes!
If you see a guy running around naked screaming and asking people for fruit, that'd be me.
Seriously, that's all i did in AC1.
In 10 hours I'll have it downloaded assuming ( <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> ) that it will actually not interrupt with some weird error <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

just forget it.
2 kbs on 512 cable *cries* <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Well, the first gate is waiting for us to all have the download ^^;
The second is working out whether we should go through the EU or US servers... There's 3 EU ones and as far as I can tell, 1 is english-speaking (Dawnsong) while the other 2 are either french or german respectively. Not looked at the US ones but there's a few including a Free for All one and stuff (PvP madness o.O).
I've got work tonight so this post is a lot shorter and fuzzier than I meant but bleh... considering it'll probably take some people a while to finish with the downloading we definitely won't be starting today, that's for sure =3
Depending on how it goes I'm thinking either tomorrow or the next day; I'll work out how to coordinate time-wise then (easy) and see how many people we've actually got <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I'll probably start out a little early once we know who's going in so I can post up my character name to help get things together and play mother for anyone who's feeling lost lol XD
I'll also put up a short little list of some of the default buttons you'll live and die by so you don't sit there feeling all clumsy and clunky; at first I was almost put off by the game's controls until I worked out these handy little buttons. After that it was clean-sailing all the way, so hopefully a small and easy to remember list should help you guys get over the 'babys first steps' moment a little better and faster than I had to =D
I'm also a bit of a craft fiend so I'll be running about bashing stuff together for everyone too amongst other things <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Are there 'sides' ala swg or daoc? or is it all vs all?
give us all the info we need to get together as a group.
btw my ingame name will be DOOManiac
I'll list all the names I use, since I don't know if any are taken (btw, my download is taking reallllllly long)
Smoke Nova
Kurai (Japanese for Dark)
Kurai Shi (Japanese for Dark & Death)
Akaryu (Japanese for Red Dragon)
Snow Knight
Aka Samurai (Japanese for Dragon Knight/Warrior)
Aka Kaji (Japanese for Dragon Flame/Fire)
I'd prefer US servers as I have a bad internet connection and the US ones are closest to me.
I'll have a name invovling beer somehow.
Either:
Lagerius
Brewmaster Zero
Pilzneren
Molsonic
One of thems, prolly the first one.
those are both fine Canadian beers brewed by Unibraue.
My name will be something like Someone®©™(hmm this forums auto changes ( r ) ( c ) ( tm )) or Someone[r][c][tm] or something like that depends on what kind of brackets they let the name have.
KTHXBYE
My Names are:
Robert Blade
or
Bobby5
rarely do I use docchimpy. In fact, I tend to favor Robert Balde, cuz it makes me sound cool.
<i>*Docchimpy loses ten coolness!*</i>
What race has everyone picked? Which US server are we all agreeing on playing in? I have 3 hours left in download and I'm wetting myself in anticipation!!!
INFORMATION! I NEED INFORMATION!!!
AC2 has a slightly odd system of levelling; in many ways it's several levelling games in one o.O
Character levelling is the basic one and the one you'll probably care about the most in a fortnight's worth of play; every level you get skill points you can use to buy new skills.... HOWEVER!!! you actually level the skills themselves up by using xp points... so you can change gradually between levels =o
Another thing you can do is untrain: if you decide you wasted your time with a skill you tell it to untrain and then any xp you gain subtracts from it's level until it hits 0 and if you let it untrain completely you get back the level points you spent on it too =D
next thing which you might or might not get involved with is kindoms; there's 3 kindoms which I can't remember much about but they're not geographical, they're more like 'clans' but without any real leader or anything. Each kindom/realm has abilities that you can gain as you level your kindom levels up so there's another levelling game you can enjoy with even more diversity in your skill choices.
The final one is brand new and wasn't around when I played originally and you'll probably not get involved with it unless you go hardcore during the trial or enjoy it so much you decide to pay ~blink~
It's the hero system... you level up your hero status by doing quests and get new super-duper heroic feats you can perform to even further define your character.
One fun thing of note is that crafting is completely independant of your normal combat stuff and it isn't a 'class' thing so anybody can do it... if they can be bothered putting in the time that is <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Problem with the crafting system though is that while it's about as close as you'll get to most crafter-maniacs's wet dreams in current MMORPGs (not sure about swg though, not played it) it only feels good at the lower parts... the difficulty and resources required go up exponentially and the dummies at turbine unfortunately made a loot system that kicks sweet hell out of the crafted items at the higher levels... infact it's so bad that the crafted items only go up to like lvl 30 requirements at most while the max level (unless you become a hero) is 50 and many of the quest items spank them at those lofty treadmill heights ^^;
Low level though, crafting is the bees knees =3
Classes are an oddity in AC2 as well... you start off being able to learn pretty much anything and everything you want so you can be a magic-casting swordsman or a lethal combattant or whatever, but once you hit a certain level you can suddenly start training in 1 of the many class trees as well as the general ones of magic, arrows and fighting. All they do really is give you access to more specialised skills and items but it's worth it in the long run as long as you remember you can only be 1 class... so if you change your mind you'll have to untrain all the class skills you learned before it'll let you switch ^^;
Few good things about AC2 is that it seems to have learnt a lesson from dungeon siege: you can turn items you don't want into money on the spot =D
No hauling lewt back to town <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Towns have a few things in them but they're generally just used for meeting up, getting quests from NPCs or using the bonusses from the furnace to help with particularly hard crafting tasks. There's no NPC shops... the economy is entirely player/loot based =P
I'd say crafting is part of the economy too but when the quest items squash the crafted items so badly at higher levels and the low level stuff is so easy/cheap to make that they get given away or made for free most of the time it's hard to really lie and say it has any major influence on anything ^^;
I've not played all 3 races involved but I'll give what little info I can on them...
Humans are all-rounders just like in every other MMORPG or RPG ever made. They don't really accel or suck at anything.
The lizardy people (Whatever they're called) do all kinds of tribal stuff and have weird voodoo drum shamism they can do... they're not particularly bad at anything to be honest but they've got some unique classes and they look like lizard devil things if that bobs your bubbles.
The big elephantman type people are unsurprisingly some of the best warriors in the game and they also host one of the oddest classes; the tactictian. Tacticians can build walls and turrets and stuff but I'm not too sure of the details... all in all a bit strange and mainly defensive ^^
They don't really suck at anything either and if being huge, grey and not particularly attractive (not that the lizards are handsome either) then this'll probably float your boat.
Knowing me I've probably missed out lots of stuff but that's a fairly quick round up... there's also something going on with being able to choose whether you're fighting with or against the armies of the undead but it's pretty new so I don't know much about it ~Shrug~
hope that helps a little ^^
<b>server edit:</b> that's 2 US votes and 1 EU... anyone else particularly bothered about which one we take? =/
If it becomes a problem we could always split it into a sorta dual event with one US lot and one EU lot. If it does split though I'll be helping the largest group of the two (probably EU looking at where everyone comes from =3 )
83%.
I'm so glad I have The Beast, which can run this.
BTW: Someone tell me what server to play on...
I know fileplanet has a mirror, but that was broken when i tried it earlier.
