Opera on what game? I never noticed it come out for Half-Life.
Anyhow AWPs have been nerfed since the beta, over and over again. I stopped playing CS really after the beta; I do not know how the gameplay is now, but it seems ridiculous to continually nerf it. It was ridiculous for instakill before even w/o scope I agree, but sometimes I wonder how much it is due to the ineptness of the CS team's intended audience.
It was mod where you and other players played as if you were making an action movie. You could somersault in the air, roll, dodge, wall kick, backflip, etc. If you were l337, you could also shoot a can into the air and try to shoot it again to keep it suspended, and again and again....
There was also a "Hero mode" which made you stronger and all for a short moment, draining some sort of gauge in the meantime.
And then you could choose an upgrade, dubbed "discipline." Discipline of Speed, or something of that nature, makes you faster, Discipline of accuracy (Uh, was that what it was called?) was obvious as well. My favorite was Discipline of Reaction, which made you reload as if you were in the Matrix.
*Chooses Discipline of Reaction and pulls out dual pistols*
*fires until out of ammo*
*quickly flips his pistols, and suddenly they are reloaded again, keeps firing*
You could do facy-smancy stuff like break through a ceiling window to drop in on the enemy like in a movie.
My favorite part was the ending...after each round, "Credits" appear, and all the player's names are listed in it
It was a good game with a good idea behind it, but with lack of attention payed to it otherwise.(Somersaulting resulted in the entire camera flipping around as if you were REALLY in first-person)
Not to mention lack of players due to no word of it and imbalance issues.
CS players: "Haha, you NS peeps think you're so much better than us, now you're coming down to our level" <play a round or few> NS players: "Um...we consider it more like 'beating you at your own game'" <play another couple rounds> CS players: "WTH? You guys are cheating?" NS players: "No we aren't, it's called voice-comm" CS players: "OMG I told you they were using a hack program!" NS players: "It's not hacking, it's built into the game! Just like the hostages, or the c4, or..." CS players: "You noobs are cheating by ending the round early? Ban ban ban!"
[edit]That said, thinking about it more...the idea of beating them at their own game, fairly, is quite intriguing. I won't join you to do so now (if I ever have free time to play, which is rare, it's spent PTing NS). But afterwards...it's ownage time.

To be honest though, just because we play NS, it doesn't make us better players of CS, infact, while i usually do well as a skulk in NS i get pwned horribly in CS.
Personally, I consider the AWP a cheeseball weapon. The way I figure, a Scout or a GSG will also kill in one hit - they're just much, much harder to use. Unless they've changed things since 1,5, the AWP's accuracy is ridiculous (as in switching to scope and sniping in the space of a half-second). And yes, this just gets old. I actually consider myself 'good' (if indeed one CAN be) with the AWP - on the old server I regged on (frequented by decently skilled CAL leetz0rs), I was perhaps the best on AWP_map or the like. I've never practiced with one in my life, and I suck **** at CS.
What I'm trying to say is that the AWP's got a certain thing about it: either I'm just incredibly leet (yeah...right) or it's just got an incredibly shallow learning curve. Yeah...and I'm leaning towards the latter .
In summary, the AWP is lame not because of its damage, but because of its all around cheapness and ease of use.

The longer i stay away from a game, the better i tend to do when i go back to it (up until about 5 months). I played CS 1.6 for the first time ever, and i got a shield and owned. And on militia, i got that new AK-47 like weapon, ran through the tunnel and killed the whole team. Very strange

Anyway, i'm in i suppose.
CS is fun in just the "shoot things" kind of way as well. Sure, there will be llamas and cheaters simply because it's more known.
There, I've saved your time.
