Help. Monitor Image Resizing Erradically

<div class="IPBDescription">Major headache (literally)</div>Yesterday I picked up a new 19" monitor as I was under the impression my old one was biting the dust. However now after only 1 day this brand new monitor displays the *EXACT* same problems of the old monitor, though it didn't right out of the box, it was fine for about 7 hours.

Basically, the image on the screen gets bigger or smaller based upon the color (or perhaps brightness?) of whatever the monitor is currently displaying. The amount of space the image grows/shrinks is dependant on coloring, but going from pure black to pure white makes the image grow by about a 1/4 inch!

I thought it might be an energy thing, so I've put this monitor on a different plug on its own surge protector, but no dice. I've tried drivers, I've tried different refresh rates, and I've tried different resolutions, nothing fixes it. There's nothing near the monitor to give off any sort of interference either.

Its so bad that as I type this I can see the bottom border of this text box jiggling as I type. :(

I'm at my rope's end as far as what to do. I hope there are some of you out there that can help me.

It's not much of a suggestion, but I've had erratic image problems (colour issues, not size issues) caused by dodgy monitor cables in the past, so if you've got a spare then give it a go.

And I suppose it might be worth checking the monitor's connection on your video card too.

older monitors don't have very effective magnetic shielding, so if you're using two monitors and one is kind of old...that could be it. I had similar problems

    Update on situation:

    - I switched out video cards
    - I hooked BOTH monitors to Laptop
    - I've ran new monitor off UPS battery backup rather than wall outlet
    - I've switched rooms w/ monitor + laptop
    - I've tried different power strips

All of these have resulted in not helping the problem any whatsoever.

    - I've checked my roomate's monitor, and his does *NOT* do it.

    2 different computers...
    2 different monitors...
    2 sources of electricity...
    WTH is going on :(

mine used to do that, I ended up duct taping the monitor cable to the back of the monitor and to my video card (I dont really recommend that!) well I dunno whats up... Try beating it a couple of times (seriously, it works on my old TV if it starts skipping I hit it on the top)

is there a device nearby like a digital clock or anything that changes frequency at a high rate, maybe even a magnet/unshielded monitor? if so, unplug/remove device from operation and away from the monitor.

Plasma screens don't like being beaten so I wouldn't reccomend it.

as I said, there is *NOTHING* near the monitor except a sharpie and some CDs...

I hooked the 19" up to my roomate's computer today and it was messing up on his...

so things I know for sure:

    - The two monitors are definately broke
    - WTH is causing them to break though? I don't want to just go buy a 3rd monitor and have it break by the end of the day...
