<div class="IPBDescription">my humble view of how aliens should look</div> I've been juggling with this thought for a looooong time... and I know you're prolly gonna just say stuff like: "replacement models"... but the thing is, the current NS aliens just don't look ferocious to me... they feel more like "pets"... I mean, I don't know about y'all, but a pig, a dog, a cow, a bird and a werewolf do not really frighten me, or cause any kind of menacing feeling whatsoever...
Fer example, just playing AvP2 deathmatch makes me crap in my pants... NS is a pleasure for <i>other</i> reasons, sure, but I always like the nerve-wrecking induced by dark, gritty, sci-fi games' ferocious, nightmaresque critters... which the current ones are definately <i><b>not</b></i>...


so anyway, the concept is sorta like this:

Given the fact that the Kharaa are primarily a bacteria lifeform in it's most basic stages of existance, I went for an overgrown, sorta shapeless bacterial concept... they wouldn't have "eyes", explaining various kharaa 1st person viewpoints like the skulk's or lerk's which is from <i>inside</i> it's mouth, or the gorge's "building tentacles" which ye can't really see on the gorge model, anyway...
also, I'm a fan of NS, but I'm not really a fan of "animal-like" aliens... I likes mine aliens <i>weird</i>! the less I can describe 'em the better... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
the idea when I was making these was to emphasize the 1st person kharaa attacks on the world models so as not to have to change all the v_models as well... so I sketched critters which'd clearly show the mouth you're biting with, the horn's you're stabbing with, the "fart-tubes" you're umbraing from, the tentacles you're building with, etc...

I know it'll never happen due to the work it'd take, but one can dream, right? man... 'twould make NS feel soooo much more gritty "B-class movie" sci-fi...     where are the sketches??? POST 'EM!

    I sort of figured out how milkshape works, so if you give me side/front/back sketches, I might be able to make a model ... (n00b in modeling here)

    ok, I've drawn all 5 species...

    now all I hafta do is get my hands on some scanner... now where the hell can I access one? hmmmm... don't worry, I'll see to that soon...

    in the meantime, it would <b>really <i>really</i> </b>help if someone could tell me where I can *easily* upload the pics once I've digitized 'em...

    yeah, underneath where you write the reply to the post, there's a thing called "File Attachments". Click browse, make sure your file is a jpg and it's small enough, and upload it.

    Bah , there are already pokemon models , why not add a blob family while we're at it...

    Are Redford and I the only people who think that this is a bad idea? IMO the aliens are awesome as is - they don't need to be blobs. At most, they could use some recoloring.

    Blobs are just funny. The models currently used are perfect... and freaky. I think a big rhino charging at you is a tad bid more frightening than a big blob with horns...

    I somewhat agree with Dragon_Mech... some recoloring would be cool, but ultimately unnecessary...

    I did say somthing helpful. I stated that changing a very large and vital part of the mod just because a single person wants this change is not realistic, nor will it ever happen. Thusly, I am asking, why does this topic exist? Why does this man feel that, because he thinks that blobs are scary, all NS aliens should be blobs and flay should automatically change his mod that he's worked on for two years to perform this correction? It just isn't realistic, and neither is this suggestion. That is what I am saying.

    Thank you for forcing me to borderline flame him in self-defense.

    Wait a second... did he just say blobs with... <i>tentacles</i>?... eww... How very non-fitting. Seeing as how it's not really possible for blobs to even move, unless they have some type of pseudopod, which will move them at the incredible rate of about 2 miles per hour or less.

    IMHO, I feel my kharaa designs fit into the whole NS universe stuff moreso even than the current ones, which're more like household or farm animals, rather than nasty, scary critters...

    btw, they're not <i>blobs</i> per se... they're more like "<i>grown bacterium masses</i>" (or something)...

    also, this topic is just to show these drawings I made, as an example of more "nightmaresque, nasty, ferocious, cool" looking aliens...

    'sides, if they actually get modelled by <i>anyone</i>, t'will be a miracle in itself...

    you'll see...

    I'll describe <i>possible</i> animations for each of the lifeforms, as well as a redundant description of the sketch:

    I've made it to look like a big mouth, with two spider like sword-limbs comin' out of the sides of that same mouth and one at the rear... not so doggy-doggy-like...

    Some sort of rubbery cone-shaped blob (kinda like a slug) with a big toothless, anus like mouth-hole on the "cone's flat end" and on both sides of this, two tentacles (the ones it uses to build)...

    This one I see as a modified sorta-Metroid (that's right, no wings! it hovars without flaping!!!), with a claw-like mouth on one side rather than under (as Metroids have), and the two "fart tubes" flanking this mouth...

    A thin, long, gangly torso standing on one tentacle/lower limb, with two sword like arm-tentacles, and one protrusion (the acid rocket cannon) protruding from it's back to lie on top of this sorta "torso", where the head would be (but isn't)...

    <b>Anim:</b> for this sucka, I imagined it'd move sorta like an upright snake dancing to a snake-charmer, acid rocket cannon swaying slightly from side to side n' all...

    Huge frickin' pile of bacterium, with a gapin' toothed maw surrounded by 3 horns, and one big, muscly leg at the rear. imagine a sort of kharaa resource tower kinda thing, with the mouth at the top, then "rotate it" horizontally... add maw+horns.

    <b>Anim:</b> well, the Kharaa's big bully would brutally push itself forward with it's muscly back "leg", sliding with it's round, hardpacked fibrous underbelly. When stomping, it'd lift itself with it's back leg and let the weight of it's body drop (with this hard underbelly taking the impact), creating the shockwave...

    You know I was expecting some ****-poor stickmen of pseudo-star-trek aliens but these sketches, given the right 3D touch and coloring, could probably look better than the current models.     anyways, yeah, the concept I went for was to base the lifeforms on what you see in first person when you play, so the creature makes more sense when you <i>see </i>it and when you <i>are </i>it...

    also, I looked to making 'em simpleish, as in "the most blob-like possible"... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> this so that they'd be easy to model, if anyone had the fancy to do so...
