<div class="IPBDescription">changes my resolution and no mouse</div> Okay, this may be an really old issue, I seem to recall this happening a long time ago, so that could be why I didn't find anything searching.
Well, I recently needed to reformat my harddrive and re-install everything. So, after re-installing Windows 98 SE and all the latest drivers for my hardware and so on, I proceeded to install my Half-Life Platinum Edition cds, then through on all the latest patches and finally install Natural Selection again, since that is REALLY what I wanted to do.
Well, Half-Life ran fine before and so did Counter-Strike, because I made sure to get my cd keys plugged in, but when I ran Natural Selection, nothing seemed to happen sometimes and then other times it seemed like it was about to start, since the screen would go dark for a second, then come back to desktop but my resolution had dropped from 800x600 32 bit color to 640x480 16 bit color and the mouse didn't want to work anymore. I went and tried Half-Life's exe, but then it was doing it too!
The answer to this problem feels like its so obvious yet it alludes me.
Well, here's my specs from DirectX Diagnostics:
O/S - Windows 98 SE
Proccessor - AMD Athlon ~1.4 GHz
Memory - 256 MB DDR RAM
Direct X Version - 9.0b
Video - ASUS AGP-V7700 DDR SGRAM v44.03
Audio - Sound Blaster Live! , Driver - emu10k1f.sys version 5.12.0001.3227
Here's hoping one of you remembers what I forgot about this type of crash.

Comments
1) Click Start>Settings>Control Panel
2) Double Click Add Remove Programs
3) Find Half-Life and uninstall
4) Click Start>Programs>Natural Selection
5) Double click Uninstall Natural Selection
6) Install Half-Life from cd
7) Run hl1110.exe (latest) patch for Half-Life
8) Run ns_install_v20.exe for installing Natural Selection 2.0
9) Double click desktop icon for Natrual Selection
10) Put in Half-Life CD key
And that is what I did and now it works fine. Thank you for your time and I thought I had passed "<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=18&t=42275' target='_blank'>If your problem happens in all HL mods, uninstall and reinstall HL (or CS), then patch with full retail patch. Then reinstall NS.</a>" because it was right after a reformat and fresh install of everything, but I was wrong. I am sorry for not doing this before posting. I hope you will not be mad at me and chalk this up to another example of READ THE FAQ! Hehe, there is just so many of them I thought I had it covered by looking in the crash related ones! Bah, silly Wolverine!
Well, off to enjoy NS again, take care folks.
