You dont know battlezone 2?
You dont know BZ2 theres the same and when u play with other ppl u can give them commands too.

and the commander mode is not really invented by the ns team. if u go to a communication center in bz2 u get an overall view over your base and u can command the units or players to go there and defend sumthing. i like this game, but only because of this stupid access violation i cant play any game longer than for 5 minutes.

you must say ns team, that bz2 involved ur idea of this commander mode.

i dont hate ns, no i like it BECAUSE it has this. bz2 didnt sell good, so it is good that this mode is implented in this game.

but be aware of the bz2 developers..... they could say thats our copyrighted stuff.

but i dont think they will get mad because u use it.

Umm, so every shooter game could get sued by the one that started it all? Common sense now. Alot of games have practically the exact same type. Look at all the racing shooters. The game sounds pretty cool, but if they even think about sueing the ns team, then thats just stupid.

Ya, they'd sue a non-profit group of programmers.

I don't think they necessarily got the idea from bz2 or anywhere else, for that matter. I've always wanted a RTS game where the units we're real people ever since I first played StarCraft and Age of Kings, and I've never even heard of bz2. It's a logical step in parts of the gaming industry and I'm surprised there aren't MORE games like this.

No, not at all. The rules and mechanics of games are not subject to copyright.

I love BattleZone2, installed it again about a week ago (finally found it) and have been ripping the pathetic humans to bits.

I have to say, as I played it the games did seem really similar. The main differences are the vehicles (massive difference, the whole point of the game really) and the levels. The levels are silly massive but they are all outside levels and so have a completely different atmosphere.

One thing that could be stolen (:D) is the way the human buildings have to have power plants to keep them running whereas the alien ones have something called a lung attacted to each building that... well, breathes I guess, and it powers the building but it can be destroyed and so leave it powerless.
I dont know if there is power needed in this game actually, Ive not heard anything about it and you could say its connected to the main ships (levels) power...

Wow, great idea (imo) imagine a level where if a button was pushed then the level would be plunged into darkness, all human turrets would be offline and their buildings would be at half strength until the power is turned on again. Maybe the flow of resources is stopped or reduced too? But the button is always really easy to defend so I can imagine alot of aliens wasting time getting to it and dying rather than winning the normal way.
    Just a thought

i only think that all say: oh wow the first game with rts elements and action elements which get combined....

i mean bz2 has nearly the same. you build a recycler which recycles the bio metal and so u can build a scavenger which collects more biometal. then u build a factory which build tanks to defend the scavengers. u build then a comm station where u leave ur tank and go to that terminal. now YOU control them all, send them to secure the bridge and soo on. u can equip those attack vehicles after u build a weapon store, and tell the attack group to wait at a point. then u go offline (log off the comm interface) and jump into any vehicle. then u tell 4 other vehicle to follow you. then u go to the base, which has many defences (good AI) and try to destroy sumthin. i decided to attack the enemy scavs so they dont get resources, but they came with a walker and kill my plattoon. i ejected with from my vehicle and laned in a group of hills. i sniped an enemy from a vehicle so i can step into it... now went back to base and built 2 platoons and the 1. attack west and 2. north. the 1. group came and let all the enemies come to them, then 2. group came from south and kicked there butts from behind. isnt this a strategy???

and bz2 (for all who not know) plays on planet surfaces with water bridge and so on. you can play like first person shooter or like rts. it is your choice.

"you build a recycler which recycles the bio metal and so u can build a scavenger which collects more biometal."

So is it something that goes around and there are large clumps of resource and they just take it slowly? Or Is it something that you build on something that gives a certain number of resources? For NS, you build something that takes resources from a main source and it just stays still.

"then u build a factory which build tanks to defend the scavengers. u build then a comm station where u leave ur tank and go to that terminal."

There aren't any things that go around and shoot Aliens. Except for turrets and Seiges, but they stay still.

"now YOU control them all, send them to secure the bridge and soo on. u can equip those attack vehicles after u build a weapon store, and tell the attack group to wait at a point."

There aren't any vehicles. But yeah, there are weapon small buildings.

"then u go offline (log off the comm interface) and jump into any vehicle. then u tell 4 other vehicle to follow you. then u go to the base, which has many defences (good AI) and try to destroy sumthin."

You understand this is a multiplayer game. You do sign on more than once. Once again, no vehicles. No bases. There isn't any AI.

"i decided to attack the enemy scavs so they dont get resources, but they came with a walker and kill my plattoon. i ejected with from my vehicle and laned in a group of hills. i sniped an enemy from a vehicle so i can step into it..."

No vehicles at all. No outside levels, only small outside areas, SMALL. No sniping guns.

Does Battlezone 2 feature multiplayer commander mode (or similar)?

I believe in a "Post your favourite games" thread Flayra posted BattleZone 2 as one of his favourites so it is quite possible that he was influenced by that aspect of the game. Nothing wrong with that at all. Not even the most anal retentive layer would look at it twice.

I'm not sure I understand what BZ2 is all about, but, alot of games have used a commander style mode to allow one player to "command" others.

Tribes, for instance. However, it was not a necessary or integral part of the gameplay experiance. You did not need a commander to win or even play. With NS, the commander is just as important as the marines he commands.

    [Edit]
And as flay told me once. Everything in this industry has been done before. It's just a matter of doing again and making it better. Or even molding the general idea to your likings.

NS is gonna be better than BZ2, lots of similarities but big enough differences for it not to be a clone.

There are small outside areas? On a spaceship!??

I guess the aliens have grown bolder than I thought, attacking NSA colonies and all. :o

There are small outsid areas, like a docking platform or something, it's really all up to the mapper.

Don't tell that to Richard Garfeild, creator of Magic.
He copyrighted 'tapping' and other CCG mechanics created by Magic.

And the concept of BZ2 is much different. BZ2 was a thin RTS layer over a mainly FPS. NS is a Full RTS with a Full FPS.

People, get a grip - it doesn't matter if a game is similar! Every single F1 game in existance is virtually identical to every other one and they don't go around sueing each other for copyright violation. I've never played BZ2, so I can't comment on it, but I can say that it doesn't matter if a game is 'influenced' by another - if they weren't, we wouldn't have FPSes like Half-Life.

There's no point in even talking about all this copyright stuff and getting sued. Battlezone 2 is one of my favourite games too, but I still love NS. NS is not very similar to Battlezone 2 either, and if NS is really that close to any other game, certainly no-one is going to get sued.

    ok here we go!:

1.Commander mode - well sure it's fun and all, but even if your NOT in commander mode in BZ2 you can still do all the things you could while IN commander mode (drops weapon, make tanks (i know, not in NS), build towers ect.).

2.SO WHAT, if they borrowed some from there, then you could sue BZ2 for stealing the FPS from games like Wolfenstein and Doom, and the RTS like from Warcraft or something...

3.So, these days not much is original anymore...at this point the best you can do..is to make a game better than anyone else...and THATS what i think the NS team will do!
    -----------------------------------------------------------

    phew...i think...

oh ya, as rob6264 said, theres no need for a commander...not even in multiplayer since all the players can do the same thing as the commander....buhuu...

    now time to continue:

If you continue with all of this "Watch out or you'll get sued for using something 500+ games allready used" you might ruin the Teams moral and thereby making em slow down the production!..so shhh...

    hm...now for something fun!

it's the year 2340....the earth has been attacked by an unknown race...they call em...the dancing hampsters!
These creatures cannot be harmed in anyway since they are of God Like status...so be afraid...very afraid...

BF2 wasn't really a big hit, apart from the commander mode thats basically really all these games have in similar. Most games these days will have some kind of feature from an old game, something to link them together, we are running out of ideas

I love how people simultaneously claim that we're ripping off Gloom, Counter-strike, Starcraft, Tribes and Battlezone II.

Is Starcraft a rip-off of Command and Conquer, because it used the same overhead view? Is Half-life a rip-off of Quake? Oh I know, Counter-strike is really a rip-off of Rainbow Six...right?

Also, your terminology is wrong. All work is automatically copyrighted. You cannot copyright ideas or algorithms, you patent those. You cannot copyright or patent names, you trademark them.

    Use your head!

More extracts from the flayra bible please.

I actualy wrote a bible with my mates in school. It started in science and continued through college during philosophy. It was the cabbage bible and started "In the beginning was the word, and the word was cabbage".
It went through quite a large part of the old testament and corrupted almost everything in it with comedy rodents, comedy vegetables and the mocking of certain people (there was a female on the team and she is hilarious when bitching about people).

I suggest an NS bible where Flayra is God, Bob (the word) is satan and the lvl1 takes the place of Jesus (obviously evolving upto a crucified lvl5).

For those who are religious, dont take this seriously, I doubt if God exists then he/she/it wouldnt care and so neither should you.

Oh and if God does exist then I absolve myself of all my sins as I signed up to be a priest on the internet. If any of you wanna get married just give me a bell.

anyways, since this allready is a little of topic, i will ask 1 off topic question and try to get this back on subject!

1.What happend to the site?, i tried for 12 hours or so to enter and it said the site was suspended....DONT DO THAT AGAIN....it hurts!

anywyas, if all of those "this is a ripoff of that" where true...there would be no new games, or games at all since the game makers would be off sueing each other for using the same names or using a leaf in a game that i a look a like of a leaf on an amiga game or something...so end of story!
